With the 215th pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select DB Cortland Finnegan from Samford.
Finnegan is a four-year starter awarded multiple All-Conference and All-America honors since his sophomore campaign. He led the team in tackles for the third straight season as a senior posting 98/1/7. He also averaged 15.1 yards on 14 punt returns and 25.1 yards on 15 kick returns.
Finnegan is an athletic prospect with marginal size. He is instinctive and quickly locates the ball. He explodes up the field in run defense, works hard in coverage and has a quick break to the play. He is a tenacious punt returner who follows blocks throughout the play.
He is projected as a free safety or cornerback. He was not invited to the Combine but did run 4.35 40 at his Pro Day. He had a 44-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-8 long jump, 4.34 short shuttle, 6.95 three-cone drill, and did 14 lifts.
