1. HOUSTON
Reggie Bush
Position: RB
College: Southern Cal
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 200 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.33
Team Needs: OT | S | DL
Comments: Has outstanding speed and quickness with a tremendous burst. Very instinctive with a great
vision. Is an excellent receiver and a great return man. Strong for his size and will
break tackles. Some question whether or not he can take the load at the pro level.
The Latest: Bush did nothing to hurt himself at the Trojan Pro Day. If anything, it is beginning to look like a no-brainer he'll be the first player taken.
Option: OT D'Brickshaw Ferguson
2. NEW ORLEANS
Matt Leinart
Position: QB
College: Southern Cal
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 225 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.80 (est)
Team Needs: QB | LB | DT
Comments: A team leader and winner. Can dissect a defense with the
best of them. Good size and a solid frame. Has good throwing
mechanics. Shows excellent touch. Some question his arm and durability.
The Latest: Leinart had mixed reviews at his workout though apparently did much better in a private workout for the Titans. With
the signing of Drew Brees, the Saints will look to shop this pick to any
team willing to come up for the top QB in the draft. However this pick goes may impact a lot on draft day.
Option: OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson
3. TENNESSEE
Vince Young
Position: QB
College: Texas
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 229 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.57
Team Needs: OT | QB | S
Comments: Has rare athletic ability and as much potential as any
player the draft has ever seen. Great speed and quickness and good arm
strength with a quick release. Many question his ability to read
defenses and make quick decisions. His mechanics are also in question.
Is considered a boom or bust.
The Latest: All indications are that the Titans will take a franchise QB
with this pick. Young was reported to be impressive in both his Pro Day and private workout for the Titans. He'll pay a visit to Baptist Sports Park for more interviews before the draft.
Option: QB Matt Leinart
4. NEW YORK JETS
D'Brickashaw Ferguson
Position: OT
College: Virginia
Height: 6' 6"
Weight: 312 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 5.09
Team Needs: DT | OT | CB
Comments: Rare athletic ability with quick, agile feet. Has long
arms and good balance. Outstanding pass blocker. May be a bit
undersized for the run game but has the frame to increase size without
losing speed.
The Latest: Ferguson did 26 reps of the 225 pounds and ran a 5.09 at the Virginia Pro Day. Many rumors have bounced around on what the Jets may do
here. They may be willing to trade up to #2 but that talks has cooled as of late.
Option: QB Jay Cutler
5. GREEN BAY
Mario Williams
Position: DE
College: North Carolina State
Height: 6' 7"
Weight: 295 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.70
Team Needs: OLB | G | DE
Comments: Possibly the best DE prospect since Julius Peppers.
Excellent size with long arms. Very quick and an excellent pass rusher.
Very productive with lots of upside. Is too inconsistent and needs to
improve technique.
The Latest: Williams has seen his stock rise since the Combine.
The Pack will look to add some impact on their defense and they could
decide to with with A.J. Hawk here. Regardless of their decision,
they'll get a top player for their defense this draft.
Option: LB A. J. Hawk
6. SAN FRANCISCO
A. J. Hawk
Position: LB
College: Ohio State
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 248 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.59
Team Needs: DL | WR | CB
Comments: Always around the football. Solid tackler with good
range. Extremely productive and does well in coverage. Works extremely
hard and is an intense competitor. May not be as quick to change
directions as computer number indicate.
The Latest: Hawk beefed up some impressive numbers at the
Buckeye Pro Day. Many feel QB Alex Smith could use a go-to guy on
offense and TE Vernon Davis would not be a reach here.
Option: TE Vernon Davis
7. OAKLAND
Jay Cutler
Position: QB
College: Vanderbilt
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 226 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.77
Team Needs: OLB | DL | S
Comments: Very strong arm with a quick delivery and good
mobility. Tough guy who will hang in the pocket and take a hit. Some
question his mechanics and making bad decisions by forcing the ball.
The Latest: No one has gotten the hype this year Cutler has
though there is no doubt he has the tools NFL teams covet. But the
Raiders would like to find a defensive impact player and would love to
Hawk to be here and still may feel S Michael Huff is the best choice.
Option: S Michael Huff
8. BUFFALO
Haloti Ngata
Position: DT
College: Oregon
Height: 6' 4"
Weight: 338 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 5.12
Team Needs: OT | CB | DT
Comments: Outstanding size and frame. Moves well with excellent
speed and quickness. Extremely strong. Has the potential to be a
dominant 3-4 nose tackle. Needs work on his technique but has a huge
upside.
The Latest: Pushed the 225 lbs 37 times while showing excellent
speed and quickness at the Combine. The Bills could replace Sam Adams
or look to bring in a replacement for OT Mike Williams in Winston
Justice.
Option: OT Winston Justice
9. DETROIT
Michael Huff
Position: S
College: Texas
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 204 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.34
Team Needs: QB | OT | DE
Comments: Very athletic with excellent speed. A ballhawk who has
skill at both safety and cornerback. Has great range and strong
instincts. May be considered a tweener and needs more work on technique
and strength.
The Latest: Huff has seen his stock continue to rise after a
solid Combine. The Lions need more playmakers on defense but could look
at offensive help with Justice or Davis.
Option: TE Vernon Davis
10. ARIZONA
Vernon Davis
Position: TE
College: Maryland
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 263 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.38
Team Needs: OL | QB | TE
Comments: A natural athlete with rare ability. Great speed and
hands. Runs well after the catch. Good leaping ability and extremely
strong. May not have the height and blocking skills but may be the best
TE prospect since Tony Gonzalez.
The Latest: Got a major boost after a combine with a fast 40 and
33 reps of the 225 lbs. Up to the Edge signing, it looked like this
would be a good spot for LenDale White. But the Cards can now turn
their attention to other needs and Davis would be a solid addition.
Option: OT Winston Justice
11. ST. LOUIS
Jimmy Williams
Position: DB
College: Virginia Tech
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 213 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.47
Team Needs: S | CB | DE
Comments: Good size with long arms. Great speed. Very strong and
physical. Jams well and is a big hitter. Is a CB/S tweener with a
lot of upside. Is inconsistent and raw but has the speed, size and
athleticism with plenty of confidence to be successful.
The Latest: With Adam Archuleta signing a six-year, $30 million
free-agent contract with Washington, the Rams need some help in the
secondary. Rumor has it that Williams ran a 4.37 on the field house
turf at the Hokies Pro Day and "blew away" the scouts present.
Option: TE Vernon Davis
12. CLEVELAND
Brodrick Bunkley
Position: DT
College: Florida State
Height: 6' 2 3/4"
Weight: 306 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.94
Team Needs: DT | LB | OT
Comments: Very solid. Extremely strong. Quick and explosive. Has a non-stop motor and gets good penetration up the middle. Does not have great size or bulk and has some injury history concerns but may make a solid nose tackle in the NFL.
The Latest: Bunkley threw up 44 reps of the 225 pounds. Add to that a broad jump of 9-feet-5-inches with a 40 around 5.0 and you have a player climbing to compete with Ngata to be the first DT taken.
Option: LB Chad Greenway
13. BALTIMORE
Winston Justice
Position: OT
College: Southern Cal
Height: 6' 6"
Weight: 319 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 5.03
Team Needs: RT | DT | CB
Comments: Great size and powerful with long arms. Strong as a run blocker and also protected Matt Leinart's blind side. Very raw but a ton of upside. Could possibly move to the left side with experience. Some off-the-field concerns may be an issue with some teams.
The Latest: The Ravens need talent up front on both sides of the ball. If Bunkley is still on the board, he'd get a serious look here as well. Justice was impressive at the Trojan Pro Day with a 39-inch vertical and 38 reps of the 225 pounds and he could be a value here.
Option: DT Brodrick Bunkley
14. PHILADELPHIA
LenDale White
Position: RB
College: Southern Cal
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 244 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.50 (est)
Team Needs: LB | DT | WR
Comments: Outstanding size with a nose for the endzone. Hits the hole with a burst of speed and authority. A very strong a physical runner who doesn't go down on first contact and has good hands as a receiver. Will not run away from anyone and isn't elusive but can pick up the tough yards.
The Latest: White complained of hamstring problems so didn't run at the Trojan Pro Day. He also lifted the 225 pounds only 15 times and looked soft which may mean the Eagles will address a need at LB or WR here.
Option: LB Ernie Sims
15. DENVER
Santonio Holmes
Position: WR
College: Ohio State
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 179 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.34
Team Needs: S | DL | WR
Comments: Very quick player who is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. Runs great routes and gets open. Has solid hands and can make the catch on the run. Some teams may have a concern with his size and ability to fight off the jam though is physical and strong.
The Latest: Holmes showed some serious speed at the Buckeye Pro Day (though on a fast track) which may have pushed him to the top 15. Rod Smith isn't getting any younger and the Broncos can look at Holmes or Chad Jackson here. With pick #15 and #22, Denver may have the ammo to go up for one of the QBs if they choose.
Option: WR Chad Jackson
16. MIAMI
Ty Hill
Position: CB
College: Clemson
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 185 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.30
Team Needs: S | LB | WR
Comments: Very explosive and fast. A natural. Tough and physical. Great leaping ability and plays the ball well. Lots of experience but has upside. Does not have ideal height and needs to work on hands to get more interceptions.
The Latest: The Fish lost three of their four starters in the secondary. Though they've addressed some needs via free agency, Hill is projected by some to be the #1 corner in the draft. A LB may be a good selection as would Jackson if still on the board.
Option: WR Chad Jackson
17. MINNESOTA
DeAngelo Williams
Position: RB
College: Memphis
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 208 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.42
Team Needs: LB | G | CB
Comments: A natural and instinctive runner. Strong for his size. Compact. Runs low and can break tackles up the middle. Good hands as a receiver. Very quick with a burst. Maybe have some durability issues and a lot of wear and tear.
The Latest: The Vikes are another one of those teams who may make a move up for Young or Cutler if either slide a little. Though LB looks to be a natural fit, Williams is too much of a value to pass here. Reports from his Pro Day on a bad track was a 40 between 4.36 and 4.42
Option: LB Ernie Sims
18. DALLAS
Chad Jackson
Position: WR
College: Florida
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 213 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.32
Team Needs: FS | WR | OLB
Comments: Excellent size and speed combination. Solid hands who does well across the middle and is a threat in the red zone. Needs to become stronger but has tremendous upside.
The Latest: The Boys could look at Donte Whitner at FS or one of the top OLBs like Sims or Greenway here. But Jackson may be the top WR in the draft and would add an offensive weapon when (not if) the T.O. situation goes bad.
Option: LB Ernie Sims
18. SAN DIEGO
Ashton Youboty
Position: CB
College: Ohio State
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 189 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.43
Team Needs: OT | WR | FS
Comments: Excellent size with solid footwork and good hands. A physical and solid tackler. Smart and from a program known to produce solid NFL corners. Sometimes inconsistent and needs more experience.
The Latest: With the trade of Sammy Davis to the Niners for Rashaun Woods, the WR need has been lessened. Youboty may be a slight reach here but has all the tools to be a top corner. Another CB like Jonathan Joseph or S Donte Whitner may go here as well.
Option: S Donte Whitner
20. KANSAS CITY
Jonathan Joseph
Position: CB
College: South Carolina
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 193 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.31
Team Needs: CB | WR | DL
Comments: Excellent speed with decent size. Good hands who would thrive in a man-to-man situation. A reliable tackler. Very raw but has a ton of upside.
The Latest: The Chiefs will have some quality options here if they want to beef up the secondary. They could also address a big need on the DL with Wimbley or Hali.
Option: DE Kamerion Wimbley
21. NEW ENGLAND
Chad Greenway
Position: LB
College: Iowa
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 242 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.75
Team Needs: CB | WR | DL
Comments: Good size with excellent speed. Smart player with instincts. Excellent in coverage and tackles well. Non-stop motor who can go sideline-to-sideline well. Sometimes too aggressive at times and needs to bulk up more.
The Latest: The Pats have age at LB and should have some quality talent at both CB and LB here. If Greenway is still available here, he'd be a steal.
Option: CB Antonio Cromartie
22. SAN FRANCISCO
Kamerion Wimbley
Position: DE
College: Florida State
Height: 6' 4"
Weight: 248 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.61
Team Needs: LB | FS | WR
Comments: A natural athlete with quick burst and speed as a pass rusher. Very productive and still have a lot of upside. A bit undersized and needs to bulk up. Not very strong at the point of attack. Could be moved to OLB for a 3-4 defense.
The Latest: The Niners pick up another first rounder from the Broncos and can use it here to beef up the defense if they take Davis with the earlier pick. A number of solid secondary options are also available.
Option: CB Antonio Cromartie
23. TAMPA BAY
Ernie Sims
Position: LB
College: Florida State
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 231 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.50
Team Needs: CB | OT | WR
Comments: An outstanding athlete who is very quick and plays much bigger than he actually is. A pure playmaker and always around the football. Solid in coverage and experienced. May not have ideal size but has a non-stop motor and a high-level of intensity.
The Latest: The Bucs have the opportunity to look at OT or CB here but Sims would be too much of a value to pass on if he slides down this far.
Option: S Donte Whitner
24. CINCINNATI
Donte Whitner
Position: S
College: Ohio State
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 204 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.40
Team Needs: TE | DE | DB
Comments: Excellent speed and quickness. Great range and covers a lot of ground. A playmaker who is always around the football and a solid tackler. Doesn't have the size for a SS so may be a good candidate to move to CB or FS.
The Latest: The Bengals brought in Dexter Jackson but could still use a versatile DB like Whitner. There should be a number of defensive talents at this point and the Bengals can grab anyone on the slide.
Option: DT Gabe Watson
25. NEW YORK GIANTS
DeMeco Ryans
Position: LB
College: Alabama
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 236 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.62
Team Needs: DT | LB | WR
Comments: Very football intelligent. Very aggressive and a sure tackler. Always around the football and plays faster than his 40 time. Has the potential to be a team leader and play any LB position. Needs to get stronger and do a better job shedding blocks.
The Latest: By adding Arrington, the need for LB here is much less though the G-Men could use more depth and should have a lot of LB available to choose from. A DT like Watson may also be the selection.
Option: DT Gabe Watson
26. CHICAGO
Sinorice Moss
Position: WR
College: Miami (FL)
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 185 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.38
Team Needs: TE | LB | OT
Comments: Extremely explosive, quick and fast. A big-play threat. Solid hands and ball skills. Runs good routes and had leadership qualities. Can also return. There may be some durability concerns due to his size.
The Latest: An offensive spark is needed in Chicago and Moss is about as exciting as it gets. TEs Leonard Pope or Marcedes Lewis may be a reach here if deemed worthy.
Option: LB DeMarco Ryans
27. CAROLINA
Jason Allen
Position: S
College: Tennessee
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 209 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.39
Team Needs: TE | LB | RB
Comments: A playmaker with great hands, long arms and quick feet. Has experience in many areas of the secondary. A leader who is solid against the run and pass. Durability is a concern for this tweener but the size/speed combination may make him a steal.
The Latest: The Panthers should be able to take a player from any number of positions if they see a sliding talent and Allen certainly fits that bill. There should be some LB talent available along with possibly Maroney, White or Williams.
Option: RB Laurence Maroney
28. JACKSONVILLE
Bobby Carpenter
Position: LB
College: Ohio State
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 256 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.66
Team Needs: TE | LB | G
Comments: Good size and speed combination. Solid instincts who does well in coverage. Very good pass rusher and blitzer. Has a big motor and is very productive. Needs to get better shedding blocks.
The Latest: The Jags could look to replace Akin Ayodele who bolted to free agency. There are also a number of second-tier TEs such as Marcedes Lewis and Leonard Pope who may get some interest. Though a guard is rarely taken in the first, Davin Joseph may be worth it. And FredEx isn't getting any younger so the Jags may be a candidate to take any of the sliding RBs.
Option: RB Laurence Maroney
29. NEW YORK JETS
Tamba Hali
Position: DE
College: Penn State
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 275 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.86
Team Needs: DL | OT | CB
Comments: Very explosive with a big motor. Extremely quick. Has experience at DT along with coverage skills. Needs to add more moves in his pass rush but has a huge upside.
The Latest: With the Jets going OT with pick #4, they can address the defense here where there is a lot of value. Though the nod could go to a CB or LB, Hali could be snagged here as there is less DE talent depth and the Jets have pick #35 to catch a sliding LB or CB. They could also package #29 with #35 and move up to get someone like DeAngelo Williams if he begins to slide a bit.
Option: RB Laurence Maroney
30. INDIANAPOLIS
Laurence Maroney
Position: RB
College: Minnesota
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 215 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.47
Team Needs: RB | LB | DT
Comments: A patient runner with excellent vision. Has big play potential and can take it the distance anytime. Strong lower body who follows blockers well and can break tackles. Has questionable hands and will need to get more physical.
The Latest: With the loss of Edgerrin James, the Colts will look hard at any RB talent available late in the first. An option may be LSU's Joseph Addai. The Colts could also look at some of the DT and LB values available making Gabe Watson or one of the talented LBs the choice.
Option: RB Joseph Addai
31. SEATTLE
Antonio Cromartie
Position: CB
College: Florida State
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 208 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.41
Team Needs: CB | S | DE
Comments: Very fast for a player his size. A tremendous athlete. A playmaker with great hands. Can return the football and is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. Is coming off a knee injury and has limited experience which is why he might slide down this far. Though raw, has a huge upside.
The Latest: This pick is purely about value as many feel he could have been a top five talent if he'd remained in college. Richard Marshall could also get a look here and would be a value as well. Though some feel he would be a reach, Mathias Kiwanuka may get a look here.
Option: CB Richard Marshall
32. PITTSBURGH
Kelly Jennings
Position: CB
College: Miami (FL)
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 178 lbs.
40 Yard Dash: 4.39
Team Needs: WR | RB | FS
Comments: Good size with frame to get bigger. Great athletic ability. Very quick with excellent speed. Solid experience who is smart and instinctive.
The Latest: No doubt the Steelers would like to replace the Bus or Randle El with this pick. There should be a lot of secondary talent here so it may be more likely one will slide and be a value here.
Option: RB Joseph Addai
