SUMMARY: Titans third-string QB Matt Mauck will start on Sunday in Jacksonville. Mauck worked with the first team offense for the second day this week as Steve McNair appears doubtful due to a strained pectorial muscle. Coach Jeff Fisher said Mauck has shown steady improvement this week. "The tempo's been great. He's shaved about eight minutes off both practices the last two days. He's in and out of the huddle. He knows what to do," Fisher said. "So we've just got to wait on Steve and see what happens." Fisher said there's a chance McNair will throw today. If McNair doesn't throw today, Fisher said he thinks "it will be hard" for the veteran to play.

Mauck went to high school like a 45 minute drive from me, we played against his school every year. Go Matt WOO! I hope he shows us a lot, so we don't have to draft a QB.

Does anyone think just maybe they are starting Matt becuase Matt gives us the best chance to lose? I mean I'm not sure and maybe hes been playing great in practice and they want to see what he can do. I dont know. Maybe hes given up on Billy, who knows. Its just a thought. Maybe Jeff doesnt want to win the last game. I mean come on hes the 3rd string QB with little to no game experience. I'm probably wrong but its just a thought.

i dont know. mauck moved us better than volek against the cards. maybe he does give us a better chance of winning compared to BV.

I think if Mauck does good, we wont draft a qb in the early rounds, also if Mauck does good i think Volek will get traded. I think we could get a 3rd or 4th rounder or maybe even a safety. Mauck could be starting for us next year if mcnair doesnt return. Being that we are in the "rebuilding mode" It sounds rediculus but it might happen. (I hope Mc comes back or we get Leinhart, Jacobs, Young, or Cutlur) I sure hope it doesnt come to us starting Mauck next season.

I can't see them possibly considering Mauck as a starter. They may see him as a good backup in the Volek mold, but that's probably it.

Norm Chow called him "spunky". That's how you hear overachievers and gym-rats described, but not quality NFL starters.

IMO, this is a ploy to NOT fall from 2nd to 6th (or from 6th to 11th) this year...AND to potentially set Mauck as the number 2 next season...I think the death knell for BV has sounded...

The Titans are 4-11. They want to look at the younger guys and Volek didn't play well last week. Common sense would lead us believe that the Titans would like to see more of Mauck going into the offseason so they know where they stand at that position.

They're doing the same thing with Bell and Randall. Here's where we start to see if Chow can be a developer of pro QB's as well as college QB's.

Does anyone have an update on this? Did Steve practice on Friday?

My guess is probably not.

McNair sat out yesterday. "Fisher said McNair wants to warm up and see how he feels hours before kickoff in Jacksonville tomorrow, his strained pectoral muscle remains sore"

Personally I would sit him out an let Mauck play.

Sure. Evaluate the young players for ONE game. Sounds like Y'all are throwing the game to me.

Huh? We're 4-11 and one of the worst teams in football (yours is one of the few teams that is slightly worse). How could we throw a game on the road against a playoff team that already beat us at home? Some of your barbs are on the money, but you're reaching for this one.

Good luck in the Reggie sweepstakes.

Mellow, dude. I'm just picking on all the mental midgets that said we are throwing games.

I'm mellow, and also jealous that we're this bad and still don't have a chance at Bush.

Ok then. That means we are a better team than Y'all. Looks like Y'all may never be better than us if Y'all arn't better than us now. Sorry guys. Go a head and get off the band wagon now. The Freak says Y'all are still worse than the Texans. The only way Y'all can beat us is if we throw the game.

Overalls is just wishing someone would throw a game so the Texans could win one. BTW, Overalls, I heard a friend of mine had a coversation with you at a game a little while back...

my dog is spunky. Can we put him on the field and see how well he does?

I am interested in seeing how well Mauck plays tomorrow. Volek just hasn't impressed me this year. I hope Mauck does well.

I agree, but after the last two weeks, I am begining to think it is more the coaches holding us down than the players. Don't get me wrong. I don't think another coach would have taken us to the playoffs this year, but I think we could have been a FEW games better.

Not nearly as good as we did against the Texans...SWEEP....how does it feel to have been swept by the team that's playing the Jags today?:ha:

Thankfully the Titans are the cream of the crop, huh.

If we get the 1st or 2nd pick, we'll let Y'all give up your picks so you can have Leinart.

based on your history you'd give us your picks to reach for a player who will be a bench warmer.

The Titans are far from being on top,
however, you seem to have forgotten your place as a Texan fan.
Here's a reminder for you,

You mean Jason Babin, who has two sacks today?

Gunny

I could get 2 sacks against the 49ers. Not exactly worth the picks you traded for him.

We should show more appreciation for the Texans. They helped us land the 3rd pick in the draft with their pitiful season because they helped lower our oppositions winning percentage.
