View Full Version : Trade with the Texans for the first overall pick... Fisher 4 BUSH???
Hellblitzer 01-02-2006, 09:51 PM now im just being realistic, what do you think about tradeing Fisher to the Texans for the first overall pick?
I like Fisher, but im kinda seeing some writeing on the wall, could it be we need to make a trade while we still can and rebuild the franchise in one draft picking #1 and #3???
Could Dave Mcginnis hold the fort or someone else we could bring in as head coach?
Now Im happy keeping Fisher, but why not?
GLinks 01-02-2006, 09:57 PM See Gunny post.
Gunny 01-02-2006, 09:57 PM why not?
because a) its stupid and b) you cant trade players/picks for coaches.
Hellblitzer 01-02-2006, 09:59 PM Tampa did for Gruden........... How did the Raiders get Sapp..... So Stupid is as Stupid does, after stupid opens it's mouth!!!!!!!!!
Hellblitzer, unfortunately the rule was changed after the Gruden deal and you can no longer make such a trade...you sound even goofier in light of this fact
KamikaZ 01-02-2006, 10:07 PM I think you're idea is friggin' 1) Stupid and 2) Unrealistic. No one would give a #1 overall pick for a coach like Fisher. Hell, any coach. The difference? Tampa Bay gave their 32nd pick for a coach who is considerably more talented then Fisher is.
Hellblitzer 01-02-2006, 10:08 PM bs........
Make the trade on a handshake...say trade Thompson for the first overall pick, then release Fisher from his contract and he signs with Houston... its called bending but not breaking.
Anyway, it was just a thought.... I guess it was satupid, even though it happened just a cou[ple years back.
Gunny 01-02-2006, 10:36 PM The NFL would look into it when you trade a hack like Thompson for the #1 pick.
FYI Sapp was signed as a Free Agent.

Pecan, cashew, macadamia (or possibly pistacio), almond, and unknown on top. All North American. Almonds and macadamias ROCK in chocolate. Pecans and brown sugar make southern pies. Pistacios are great raw, or used to make ICE CREAM!!! Cashews are just plain old eatin' nuts, but not my fave by any means.

I would guess that the one on top is a Brazil nut.
Other than that, as much as I would like to have the Fisher as our Head coach. There is no way we would do that deal.
Gunny 01-03-2006, 06:35 PM they look like the end result of a trip through the intestines.

TitanFan62702 01-03-2006, 09:26 PM Back to the original question, apparently a coach can be traded for a player, but not a round 1 AND the top cheese has to approve it. It sounds as if Jets & Chiefs are working on something similar.
This is NOT an opinion to do it with Fisher but that it is still possible.

well sorry for trying to get some nutrition to this board. :ha:
Regardless of whether or not this is actually possible of ever taking place, I wouldn't want Jeff coaching a divisional opponent
here's a spin on the topic (kinda)
how 'bout bringing Capers in as DC ?

I can only assume that this is a rhetorical question, and in no way an actual suggestion.
Bring in Wally Moose for all I care, anyone would be as effective as Fisher's current pet DC.

nigel 01-04-2006, 11:18 AM Tampa did for Gruden........... How did the Raiders get Sapp.....
Actually, the Raiders signed Sapp as a free agent.
And according to PFT, you can trade draft picks for head coaches, but not assistants.
Soxcat 01-04-2006, 12:25 PM The issue isn't IF we would trade Fisher for the pick. The issue is NO team would trade the first pick in the draft for Fisher straight up. I'm not sure there is a coach in the NFL with the exception of maybe Bill Belichick, who has the highest postseason winning percentage of any head coach in NFL history, and is the only head coach to win 3 Super Bowls within 4 years. Still, even Belichick isn't going to win without good players.
coltman18 01-04-2006, 02:11 PM I agree that no way would Tennessee get the #1 pick for Fisher straight up.
So, let's crush that nutty thought.

How 'bout dump Chow and bring in this pair
for offensive and defensive coordinators?

Honestly, even though I've knocked on my favorite cowpoke Overalls for being a fan of a "Dom Caper's coached team"...I think I'd like Dom okay...
Do you think Berman would do the
Dom, Dom, Dom, Dom, Dom,
dooty, doo,
Dom, Dom, Dom, Dom, Dom...
for us? The nice thing about getting Dom is all he would have to do is fill out an application. Don't let your Texan hate blind you. Dom did good things in Carolina before things went sour. Bullwinkle would be better than Swartzie. Besides, that's great rivalry fodder 'ya know...:winker:

i am pretty certain you cant do that. I remeber it was an issue after it happened.
JohnnyTitan 01-04-2006, 06:51 PM Yeah, I thought the trading of picks for a coach was off limits as well. Our local paper had an article about the coaching changes & said that if the Chiefs get Edwards they may have to give up some draft picks. Given it was a local paper, but the article was straight off the AP.
PaCmAn 4 MvP32 01-04-2006, 06:57 PM we don't need #1 pick!

YOU TALKIN ABOUT A BIG FISHA' OR A LITTLE FISHA' ???
vnomus2 01-08-2006, 12:11 AM 1st time poster. Jeff is a very good coach. He may not be the best, but I would put him near the top. This would be an incredibly stupid move to let him go. I mean if you let them go who the heck are they gonna bring in that is anywhere near the head coach Jeff Fisher is.
TitanJeff 01-08-2006, 10:00 AM Welcome to the forum, vnomus2.
Though I think Fisher is a good coach, you have to look at the team he's put on the field the last two seasons. Give him a pass for an injury-plagued team in '04 but the undisciplined team we saw this year points to a problem. Maybe Fisher gets things back on track but I don't think he did a good job coaching this season.
GLinks 01-08-2006, 01:24 PM Talk of trading Fisher is ridiculous this year. He has another year left - no need to pull the trigger too soon.
