View Full Version : Vince Young
Intersting mock prediction
the thing I kinda dislike is his weird pre-snap stance and his sidearm delivery. but I LOVE his accuracy, vision and footwork

rcarie 01-04-2006, 09:36 PM Has Young anounced whether or not he's coming out?
Woody81 01-04-2006, 09:37 PM his arm isn't too impressive...he's quick as hell though
his arm isn't too impressive...he's quick as hell though
I don't necessarily like his "strength" but his accuracy and vision are top notch. I think a good QB coach can work on his strength
He has great size for a QB to be so nimble

size and speed are definitely there...it's kind of weird to see him move so well given his size....you're right about the accuracy - still waiting for a bullet pass or down field throw. His delivery almost seems long, like it takes too long or something.
yeah, I wanna see Young toss one deep
anyone know what his LONG is ?
Gunny 01-04-2006, 09:51 PM he just tossed one but was incomplete but almost complete.
they just scored again.
Woody81 01-04-2006, 09:56 PM texas looks good...Lienert better pick it up or he is going to lose some money tonight.
yeah, I hope Matt shapes up so NO will contine to want to take him
i'm changingmy mind about something, I want Vince Young to be there @ #3. last time we took a mobile QB with the #3 pick it worked out OK
Woody81 01-04-2006, 10:03 PM texas really looks like they are going to do this
KamikaZ 01-04-2006, 10:04 PM Young's touch on his passes really impresses me. His mobility is going to be a huge asset (don't think Vick, think young McNair), and I think his arm-strength is fairly on point. I still think he should stay another year and fine-tune his technique. But I'd love to see him on this roster if avaiblie this April.
with the way Matt's stinking it up, I wonder if NO will still draft him
you'd think that they'd wanna get away from a Young-type of QB, considering the problems experienced with Brooks
remember, I predict that if Texas wins - Young will declare
hey Kam... you ever seen "Fear of a Black Hat" ?
Woody81 01-04-2006, 10:09 PM i wouldn't mind him sitting a year behind Mac - his arm worries me a little but that could improve
KamikaZ 01-04-2006, 10:12 PM hey Kam... you ever seen "Fear of a Black Hat" ?
Isn't that that hip hop version of "Spinal Tap"?
V-MAN 01-04-2006, 10:16 PM I was a bit curious to see which QB would step up to the plate tonight.
I have to admit Vince is the real deal. I'm hoping that if he is eligible for the draft that we grab him with the quickness.
Matt is looking like he is elsewhere tonight. But then I was never too high on him anyway. The Saints can have him.
Isn't that that hip hop version of "Spinal Tap"?
uuhh,,..... I guess you could call it that

That's my point Triumph the insult dog.

I think a lot of people predicted that, to take nothing away from you, Puck.
I think New Orleans is salivating right now, just like we are. They're probably considering him a regional home town kid right about now.
Well, if they take him, we can always sell Leinart to the Jets or someone else.
Gunny 01-05-2006, 12:31 AM Leinart went 29 of 39 - he didnt exactly play bad but look at his counterpart.
Vince's final stats :
Passing
30-40 / 267 yards
Rushing
20att - 200 yards - 3 TD's
467 yards of total offense - a new Rose Bowl Record
not bad, not bad at all
c'mon to #3 baby
TitanJames 01-05-2006, 12:34 AM If Vince declares and he's available and we don't draft him...I'll disown this team.....
This guy is all heart just like Steve and Steve is his hero so how perfect would that be for him to mentor to him.
He's the real deal and he's gonna be one of the best.......
With the 3rd pick in the draft...the Tennessee Titans select QB Vince Young from Texas......
Make it happen BABY!!! HOOKEM!!
RollTide 01-05-2006, 12:34 AM What an awesome player. I have never seen a guy single handedly take a team on his back like that. The guy is an absolutely awesome runner who runs through tackles with ease, makes people miss and has 4.4 speed. He has a strong accurate arm. Maybe not a brett farve arm but good enough to get the job done. Exellent accuracy on almost every throw and few mistakes in reading coverage. Draft that guy! Likely now that he will come out after winning the championship.
What is most amazing is that this guy has so much poise and leadership ability. He stands up to a big time rush like it is nothing to him and he can easily dispatch potential tacklers to make a play. 200 yards rushing and almost 300 yards passing. What more could you ask for in a big game. No turnovers! His passing rating using the nfl formula was 92.3 despite not completing a TD pass.
Draft that guy!
I'm gonna go out on a limb here
Vince Young is better than Michael Vick
there I said it
Troupe4Prez 01-05-2006, 12:46 AM What would staying possibly do for him other than earn him an overrated trophy(heisman). When he could benefit from a year under Chow and Mcnair, and gain a better understanding of the Titan playbook.
RollTide 01-05-2006, 12:48 AM It's miles davis "kind of blue" not some kind of blue. Great CD but i actually listen to milestones more. What a sextet with miles, coltrane on tenor and cannonball adderly on alto. Hard to beat.
My favorite jazz musicians.
Blue mitchell, cannonball adderly, jimmy heath, joe henderson, booker ervin and of course miles and trane.

Thanks for the correction. Miles is only second to Coltrane (hell, not even 2nd, I can't rank such musicians) as my all-time favorite musicians.
RollTide 01-05-2006, 01:13 AM The obvious problem with vick is that he has not improved at all with age. In fact he has actually regressed. Last year people attributed vick's struggles to a new system. This year he was less effective throwing the ball.
In 2002 vick's first full season as a starter he had a passing rating of 82 and had twice as many TDs as ints. He also ran for almost 800 yards. The passing numbers were not top notch but average enough especially with the TD-int ratio to get the job done and he was such a dominant runner he was very effective over all, got his team into the playoffs and won a game there. Well since then he has failed to match even those modest numbers and 800 yards a season running is not something even he can accomplish every year.
I see young as a more effective passer who can give you an 80+ rating every year and not throw a lot of ints. As a runner he is comparable to vick though he is more like a young mcnair with his size and strength. Look at a young mcnair from 98-2000 and you see what this guy will be. At least! Whether he could ever have the kind of year passing that steve had in 2003 is doubtful but for 7-8 years he could be a very effective player with his variety of talents.
I also think young would benefit more from coming out now and spending a year with the clip board then running rings around big 12 defenses again. Give him one full season, two camps-pre-seasons and he could be ready to go.
What would staying possibly do for him other than earn him an overrated trophy(heisman). When he could benefit from a year under Chow and Mcnair, and gain a better understanding of the Titan playbook.
yeah, i've been thinking and saying all day
if Texas wins the Rose Bowl, Vince will come out
lets just hope Steve drops some advice for him
maybe he'll pull an Eli / Elway and refuse to play for New Orleans
nah,.... I still think the Saints go for Leinart .. he got a Heismann :ha:

Troupe4Prez 01-05-2006, 01:21 AM Hopefully we aren't getting ourselves hyped up for nothing, needless to say if we are going to get a franchise QB it has to be in this draft. Young hopefully and if not Cutler.

In a few years he will, but not right now
he's close though
KamikaZ 01-05-2006, 02:53 AM I agree with almost everything Roll said. Where you been man?
Titanpride 01-05-2006, 03:19 AM Young is no NFL QB. Is he exciting to watch run the ball ? yes, but he's no QB. He stays in the shotgun the entire game, every play. When he does throw it... its to the flat, and he puts up mis-leading stats in a " Zone step " offense. I can't believe fans are considering him as our first pick with the idea he could be a NFL QB. He would have little to no success at that level.
ya might be onto something
it does look like he's in shotgun alot
but then again McNair was too at Alcorn
Titanpride 01-05-2006, 03:29 AM Him being in the shot gun every play... is a indicator that he can not process defense(s) quickly and needs the extra time. Tonight it looked like they ran the same play.. over and over again. I felt like I was watching some guy on xbox playing NFL live that keeps running the same play or Nebraska running the option in the early 90's.
Gunny 01-05-2006, 03:30 AM I agree with almost everything Roll said. Where you been man?
you ok?
IndyTitan 01-05-2006, 08:16 AM I also think young would benefit more from coming out now and spending a year with the clip board then running rings around big 12 defenses again. Give him one full season, two camps-pre-seasons and he could be ready to go.
Great point. Nothing left to prove in the NCAA and the Big 12 conference. I think that winning the BCS championship sealed his fate to announce that he will declare for the 2006 draft.
KamikaZ 01-05-2006, 08:53 AM you ok?
Hey, I was surprised too. :ha

That's not a stretch.:hmm:
GLinks 01-05-2006, 09:35 AM Ya know, on the big board now, Vince Young goes ahead of Leinart. I was worried about his throwing, but after having seen it, it ain't bad. He's got a low release, but not quite sidearm (most of the time). His thing is he feels big, so he's trying to fit his passes into the throwing lanes. He also uses wrist on some of his throws. Don't know why TitanPride is so bent over him (really wanted USC to win, eh?) - I'm impressed. Also, on arm strength: can you guys see how much bigger he can get? Not really worried about taking him on a one to two year NFL learning curve. He's got a frame to fill out. 75% accuracy? Get out. By the time he's NFL ready he'll be able to throw 60 yards on one knee. Well, you get my point.
And seriously, if we ended up with Leinart, 29-40 is still over 70%. I'd take him, too, but after last night, YOUNG IS DA MAN! 75% completion, threw for 267 but 200 yards RUSHING, 3 TDS? To borrow from Critical Theory: "Young was out there beastin' fools!"
That has to be one of the greatest college games of all-time, and as the media is saying, the greatest single player performance in NCAA history. Even Pete Carroll had to reluctantly agree with that.
Finally, Young's decision-making, even as a junior, was clearly better than Leinart's last night. I definitely want him with our first pick.
STAY DOWN, NEW ORLEANS! STAY DOWN!
RollTide 01-05-2006, 12:17 PM I honestly don't know what you are talking about. Most of young's passes were short over the middle and to the flat because USC was bringing everything they had on the blitz, safeties and conrers included. It was by design that USC wanted to blitz him and force him to make quick decisions. Well he made the right decisions and completed 75% of his passes. He took what the defense gave him and showed incredible poise. No happy feet, no panic. In the whole game he only made one bad decision that almost resulted in a pick. One bad pass out of 40!
Someone asked ronnie lott about young's readiness to play in the nfl. He rolled his eyes and asked if the person was kidding. Ask pete carroll about vince young.
Now titanpride, you were not one of those on the other thread who said that young was just a straight line runner were you? He only made about 50 tacklers miss last night.
Young is the same caliber propect that steve mcnair was in 1995. The only problem now is that he will still be available when we pick third. If not we can draft lienart instead. Not a bad situation to be in.
yeah Roll, one thing I noticed is that Vince looked confident and poised (something you normally hear about Matt). I didn't see him look flustered or panicked
Mex#1TitanFan 01-05-2006, 12:31 PM I agree with all of you, Vince Young need to be headed with his daddy Steve McNair and to the Tennessee Titans...he is a monster as a QB.
Thumbs up to the:
"With the 3rd pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select, Vince Young from Texas"
Floyd Reese get that guy
GLinks 01-05-2006, 12:34 PM Agreed Roll, Puck. That's exactly how you "take what the defense gives you." One bad pass out of 40! He outperformed Leinart last night, pass for pass. That says a lot.

RollTide 01-05-2006, 09:25 PM Who needs an athlete at QB anyway? This is the nfl you don't win with athletes.:sad2:
Vince young was so overwhelming, so dominant, so God like that he looked like some golem running over high school kids. If he had fought, wiggled and squirmed his way to 80 rushing yards last night we could respect him more but he ran for 200 yards and was unstoppable and that is bad. The announcers commented that he always scores standing up. Not good. Who wants a guy leading your team who can't be tackled?
Titanpride is right. Who wants a guy so damn freakishly good that he was like some guy in a video game. We want the future titan QB to be a mere mortal, a weakling, a wimp a guy who never leaves the pocket.
Shame on you vince young for having one the best games we have ever seen in our lives. Shame on you for reading the defense so well as to know when to run. Shame on you vince young for running through tackles like it was nothing. For being so fast and strong and quick. Shame on you for the incredible leadership that carried a team on your back in the biggest game of your life! We don't want that here in tennessee. We want studly drop back passers like ryan leaf and tim couch. Vince young is simply too damn good for this team.:sad2:
Titanpride is right. Who wants a guy so damn freakishly good that he was like some guy in a video game. We want the future titan QB to be a mere mortal, a weakling, a wimp a guy who never leaves the pocket.
Like Billy Volek ?
super_titan 01-05-2006, 09:56 PM Only problem I have with Young is his throwing style. How is that gonna translate over to the NFL? I just keep picturing his passes getting batted down at the LOS with that side arm delivary ( yea I know Rich Gannon threw like that too).
Gunny 01-05-2006, 10:27 PM he is 6`5 isnt he?
KamikaZ 01-05-2006, 10:35 PM So does Rivers right?
Titans2008 01-05-2006, 10:35 PM People read way too much into low deliveries. Consider that the average D Lineman is probably around 6-2 or 6-3 and most quarterbacks about the same height so basically any lineman will bat a short pass down if he raises his hand at the right spot. More of a concern would be his windup that takes way too long and how he palms it in one hand while he scrambles in traffic. That usually doesn't work out too well in the NFL.
