with all this qb talk, has anyone thought about maybe going for mario williams with the first pick. i realize we have laboy, odom and schobel, but their all average at best. two solid ends would be nice to have for 5 or 6 years down the road and the way qbs are who's to say we can't get a solid one later in the draft. like croyle, kellen clemens or omar jacobs for example. just a crazy thought, but the thought of taking a qb and him not working out would screw us for a long time.

Mario will probably be gone anyway.

Today Schefter reported on Total Access that the Texans might be looking to land Williams, either at #1 or through trade. He said they rolled out far more red carpet for him than Bush, and are pushing more to begin contract talks with him then Bush.

By red carpet, I mean only some of the personnel were there to meet Bush. Most all were on hand to meet Williams.

Gunny, you may get your Bush yet, Bushman.

Upon further review, that would complicate matters greatly.

I was listening to that on Sirius on the way home from work last night. Bush could fall right into the Titans' laps or at least to #2. I wonder if Bush is there at #2, will Reese go up and get him or will he be content to let someone else have a chance to trade up in front of him.

I think most of us wanted to pick Mario, but Rolltide talked us out of it.

If Bush doesn't go #1, he's definatly going @ #2. The saints have Deuce McAlister who was injured last year. Then they can trade out of it - IMO the Jets would be interested; Curtis Martin on the DOWN side of his career.

Wow, this could be tough on draft day. Imagine if Bush and two or three of the QB's are there when we pick? Tough decision....

thatwould be like heaven, but i think for the best of ouir future we take a QB, a DL can not have 10-17 sacks and we expect to go to the super bowl in 2-5 years. QB can do that, even bush prolly could

we did draft kearse in 99 and went to the super bowl. mcnair only threw for 2200. a solid defense and an average offense will get you where you want to go. look at the steelers.

true, but they did have quite a few offensive weapons that they could use, willie parker was very inconssistant but he can break a big one due to his speed, randle el is a very fast wr and he can do some gadget plays due to his qb background during college, and hines ward can catch any ball that is thrown at him

Makes me think of the Ratbirds championship season with Dilfer :sad2: at QB!

Mario Williams's upside is called Reggie White. He's even faster than Reggie too. He's a beast in terms of size/athleticism and talent.

The downside is in college, he can take GAMES off! In the few games I watched live, I thought Manny Lawson was more dominant. Of course, since Lawson runs the 40 in about 4.4, Mario's 4.7 looks slow.

However, how would you like having Julius Peppers on your D opposite KVB? Outside of the Panthers, you could have the best DL in the league...a good thing to have if you're gonna keep playing a lot of zone!

we are just gonna sign Dwight Freeney when he is a Free Agent next year.:brow:

Dwight Freeney won't be a free agent. Why do you think the Colts keep plugging in new defenders? They MUST keep Freeney or their D will start to fall apart.

No Cover 2 team can be dominant without a superb pass rusher (Tampa, Panthers, Colts). Not that the Colts D is dominant, but I think they'll be keeping him. Plus, Mario could be as good or better.

Key word being COULD!

Really think the Colts can afford to pay him to be the highest paid DE in the NFL (which is what he will get), coupled with Manning, Harrison, Wayne, Simon, Stokely and whoever else they have tied up.

Thats what is so great about the pre draft hype. You have 5 diferent guys going #1 Just last week and all preseason it was Bush no out of nowhere the hype sucked Mario in. I love it this is the second most exciting time of year especially when you have a high draft choice. But the draft goes Bush, williams, Young....I hope. Unless some miracle happens and Bush drops to third because notoriously RB's have better value in the beginning of their career. We'll see and I dont think the Titans could pass on the next Mike Vick type player with Young, and Historically (at least since the mid to late eighties) the Titans have had the best (not to turn this racial) black QB's in the NFL which equates to Top 5 QB's in the leaugue, Moon was the man, Mac was the man and Young will be the man.

ya, unless reggie drops to us, i dont see how we can go with anyone but young, he is the kind of player that we always have behind center

I think the Colts know where their bread is buttered and on D it's Freeney or bust. They will find a way to keep him and sign him to a long term deal with his bonus spread out...probably to coincide with when Harrison will be retiring/getting cut in a few years.

Then again, I would have told you that there was no possible way the Titans would have let go Runyan, Kearse, Rolle, Mason, ect without getting ANYTHING in return. Of course, Bill Polian is still supremely admired and my liking of Reese has taken about 7 big hits!

If you were a rookie GM and just 'let go' 5 of your 10 best players for NOTHING except compensatory picks...you'd be fired in a heartbeat!

Picks at the end of rds 3,4,5 don't equate to 2nd rdrs or better.
