View Full Version : The new "House of Pain" defense
fitantitans 05-05-2006, 08:46 PM That is, if we're allowed to use the Oilers old sayings!
In 2000, such names as Kearse, Kenny Holmes, Blaine Bishop, Rolle, Robinson, Favors, Fisk, Ford, Robaire Smith all graced our defense. They all made it to the Big Show. Is our new defense better?
Pacman, Chris Hope, Thornton, Bulluck, KVB, Haynesworth, Woolfolk, LaBoy, and possibly Ty Law.
(Do you realize that we presently list 10 LBs on our roster!)
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 05-05-2006, 09:09 PM I love fitantitans threads. Bring the humor...
The defense is unproven. How can it be better?...
Defense...LB's with all that LB corp I hope to see a 3-4 Peyton Package Padre.
GLinks 05-05-2006, 10:38 PM Pinky...are you pondering what I'm pondering?
I've been thinking about the "defensive QBs" and "emotional leaders" and etcetera we currently have on the roster following the draft.
D QBs: Sirmon, Fuller, Lowry (from reports), Hope(?)
E Ldrs: Bulluck, Tulloch (from reports)
Motors: KVB, LaBoy, Nande, Tulloch
Character leadership: Hope, Thornton, KVB, Bulluck
With any luck, we should be flying toward the ball with pinpoint accuracy. I have a lot of hope for this defense. If we do bring in Law, I hope he is worth it. A big contract followed by poor performance could equal a nasty cap hit upon release. Other than that, analysts are going to start looking at our D and say "something good is brewing down in Tennessee."
TitanKid4Life 05-05-2006, 10:48 PM ya a 3-4 would be really good, they dont know where the other guy is comming from, and the rb's say that it is much tougher to run against, so that would also help stopping the run and we would have more speed out there

Yeah, but we DON'T have Greg Williams... Therefore our D is clearly NOT better.
TitanKid4Life 05-06-2006, 12:26 AM or is it....?
fitantitans 05-06-2006, 06:32 AM You're right BiPolar, they are unproven on the field but 100% better on paper this year than they were last year on the field!
KVB, Haynesworth(a healthy one), LaBoy, Woolfolk and Bulluck have proven themselves on the field. Our FA pickups, Thornton and Hope (and Law(?)) have proven themselves on other teams. Pacman is still...........Pacman. I didn't list any rookies although I think there are some that I will wish, somewhere down the road in 2006, that I had added to the list.
MadAboutMcNair 05-06-2006, 07:51 AM With no disrespect meant to either you our WoolfolksUncle, Andre Woolfolk has not proven anything on the field yet. On second thought, add Laboy to that list as well. And Haynesworth might be our best d lineman, but he still has to do it. Only Bulluck and KVB have proven themselves, if you ask me. And I would like to see KVB do it again, not doubting him mind you. I would just like to see it again.
Our d is a long way from the house of pain.
LazyManJackson 05-06-2006, 08:08 AM I thought Laboy started to live up to his potential towards the end of season, didn'the get 6 sacks or something.
Our defense is unproven, but hey, its way better than last year.

Sure you don't have your own history so you might as well "borrow" from some one elses.
GoTitans3801 05-06-2006, 12:11 PM Great point, overalls, cite us some Texans history... losing... losing... hmmm... anything else? Good nicknames, good players...? Nope, just losing...
rcarie 05-06-2006, 12:13 PM I wouldn't start calling our D great yet. They should be better but "should of's" and "could of's" seem to come bretty cheap these days so I would wait until about mid season before we start calling this the "House of Pain".
Right now it's the "House of 'PLEASE' somebody make a tackle...."
KamikaZ 05-06-2006, 12:17 PM Sure you don't have your own history so you might as well "borrow" from some one elses.

Yea we don't want to take the Texans saying "house of pain" from them. Only problem is Houston has become the house of pain for the fans and not the visiting team.

No where did i say that the nickname belonged to the Texans. The nickname belonged to the Astrodome. A building Dud did not like. I see no reason for it to carry over to nashville. The Astrodome was nicknamed that for the Oilers defense and its rabid fans. Since TENNheads do not think there were rabid fans in Houston and that The Astrodome was a lousey place, why would Y'all want that tie in. I would think Y'all would want to develope your own nickname. "The Coliseum of Crunch" or something.
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 05-06-2006, 09:06 PM Overalls... you suck. This was a good thread but now because of your unimaginative, repetitive :bs: it is now a smack thread :bs: dedicated to telling you in whole new ways that :bs: Doofus Carr is the head honcho skin flute player in Texas... now every bullock like yourself knows that if you are going to play in Texas... you have got to play fiddle in the band... sure that lead guitar is hot... Overalls... go start a thread. You are starting to etch your way over into bad troll territory. Your Texans are the worst NFL team since the strike era Colts. If the Texans were an Olympic ski jumper... they would be Eddie the Eagle Edwards... total joke... just for laughs and not a snowballs chance in hell of winning anything. Your envy is so obvious.
Just jump ship already. We'll make you walk the plank inside two weeks.
Coat tail tactic man... nothing new from you. Same old cows...

Big TT 05-07-2006, 06:18 AM Hey Overalls, don't be shy go ahead and make the jump to our side. Many or at least several of your fans already have. You know you wanted Vince, would have settled for Reggie but you got Mario??? McNair screwed Houston with that far worse than Bud every did.:ha:

1) Iwas on record as stating that the Texans should trade down. I was never in the Vinny camp, but the idea of Reggie had started to grow on me. Mario was the RIGHT pick.
2) McNair could have drafted Marcus Vick #1 and he would still be more respected around here than Dud. Dud and his new Vinny jock jumpers are traiters to the state. I wish you could get Dud to move to your state so he would quit stinking up ours.

How about back to back 1-13 season in 72 and 73. Now go back and study your Oiler history. Sorry that I had to point out your lack of knowledge. Have a nice day and go Vinny:lol:
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 05-07-2006, 06:50 PM What does merger era football from 30+ years have to do with anything?
So, when Titans refer to "the House of Pain" that is a no,no....
but we should be conscientious when it comes to 1972-73???
When healthy, Kosar and Moon were two of the premier players in the league. That night, both were effective, and each tossed a touchdown pass; Kosar to tight end Ozzie Newsome and Moon to Ernest Givins. However, the Oilers won the game, 24-17, behind the bruising running of Mike Rozier and Alonzo Highsmith, each of whom rushed for a touchdown, and the crushing "House of Pain" defense that held the Browns to just 44 yards rushing. The Houston victory snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Browns, which made Moon very happy, as he had been the Oilers starter during that seven-game stretch.
http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/abcsports/mnf/2001/1109/photo/s_moon_i.jpg
I find it curious when you are so offended at the notion that we try to identify with Oilers past.. ie the linage of MOON, McNair and Young and what it means to be a prototypical Oilers/Titans franchise qb... no, no, no...
don't bring that to Overalls... but when it so comes to merger era stinker seasons that took place before my 28 year old *** was even born... Yup. That's my fault. Blame it on the unborn...
Listen up cownad... I've been dreaming of Tennessee having an NFL team for 20+ years. It was a dream come true when Nashville landed the Titans. Hell, part of the reason I really don't care for the jags is that Memphis was passed over for Jacksonville. Same goes for the Panthers...
There lies your base of camparison for expansion success...
If you can prove that Houston has exceeded the standards set by Jacksonville, Carolina, new Browns... then maybe you can make a case that the Texans are not huge losers... until then... we've been in a cap hell and we'll be back in the playoffs again soon enough.... before your bullock blowing team will be anyways.
You will get swept (again) and I do expect Mario Williams to have DROY type numbers... but your Texans still suck.
bring something! You've got nothing but steers and queers...
and Overalls... I don't see any horns on you so...
Overalls 05-07-2006, 10:46 PM Do you understand anything? I hope you are not as dense as you seem.
Sec 330 made a point. Houston is the worst "expansion" franchise since WWII

I am not Overalls, but okay I'll play....
1. 19-10
2. 2004 (remember that year? Y'all could have tried out for the Curling team at the Olympics!)
3. Aaron Glenn, Jamie Sharper (you said history!)
4. Bob McNair vs Bud Adams, Texans win again!
5. Harris County PD is not on a first name basis with our roster. Don't need no drug sniffing dogs in our locker room.
We are not the worst expansion team ever. We are slow to the winner's circle because we are not building a 'flash in the pan' team. Building a winning franchise takes time and perserverance. But I don't expect y'all to understand these complex concepts. We had a slight backslide last season, but since the weak link is gone now (Capers and his cronies), we seem to be turned in the right direction.
I am anticipating another year of Titan stomping, Texans style. Keep spouting off about us, I enjoy fiction as well as the next poster. :brow:
LazyManJackson 05-09-2006, 01:00 PM Hey I like curling.......................................
We are not the worst expansion team ever.
first Moo
second I said worst "expansion" team since WWII. I used the "expansion" because some of the post WWII expansions were actually teams comming into the NFL intact from other leagues - Cleveland Browns for instance. For true expansion teams the Cows are the only team that has NOT been to the playoffs by year 4. Period. End of argument.

Thanks for playing, but sorry, no prize...
1. I don't know what this is, is it a score from a game? Fill me in and I'll respond.
2. 2004- I'm not sure why that's good history for your team. I'll go on the assumption that it's because it's the best record your franchise has ever held, and you swept the titans. Well, first, 7-9. 7-9! Note to Texans, that's a losing Record! Don't cite that as positive history. Sweeping the Titans, I'll give you that. Congrats. Our excuse is that we had the most players out for injury for the most games of and NFL team. Maybe it's not an excuse, but in our rivalry with you, we more than made up for it last year, taking our cumulative record against you to a lovely 6-2.
3. Really? Two players that played for your team for three years? I could be wrong, but I don't think either every went to the pro bowl, but still... wow... if that's the best you got, I'll take it any day.
4. Bob McNair... sorry, I'd rather have bud. I enjoyed watching Bud get destroyed at the Derby, much like I enjoy watching his team get destroyed EVERY YEAR THEY HAVE EVER EXISTED!
5. Not true in TN either. That's weak smack.
Better luck next time, but thanks for playing... Now please enjoy watching Vince Young and Lendale White torch you for the next 5-10 years.

Oh yeah, don't you recall the thread you made where the Cowboy fan with the T.O. avatar shreaded Overalls? It was (and is) a sweet thread man... It was the one with the poll about Texan season expectations... then I came along and posted the "Draft Vince Young" video... (I still have that song stuck in my head) ... yup. That was a great thread... T.O. tried to say it was a fluke that the Texans won that game, and I believe, if memory serves, I provided evidence that supported his claim. I also predicted that the Cowboys were going to bury the Texans in regular season play this upcoming year, however, I made no such contrary guarentees for my beloved Titans... I'm picking the Boys to win the NFC. No kidding.

btw- you know I like Parcells. You know I live in Chattanooga, TN and you are well aware T.O. was a UTmoc here in my town... plus... I have no love for the Texans, Dallas is in the NFC, so why not root for the 'Boys?

I've just lost respect for the Eagles...

All I am saying is that I think Dallas is going to win the NFC. I'm thinking they take the east outright... I see 11-5, 12-4... somewhere in there... possible bye from wildcard round... at the very least home field in wild card... 3rd seed perhaps?
also, in case you are wondering... I see Denver winning it all.

I wouldn't go as far as saying the Crackboys are superior. They have a longer history and by now they should have something to show for it. They still SUCK.
What should we expect with a division series with y'all? A sweep and nothing less. I expect to see shreds of Columbia Blue all over Reliant on 12/10 and nothing but Texans tracks over the backs of your Titans on 10/29. I sure hope the lockerrooms have hose hookups, need to have some way to clean up all that poo the Titans players leave after they fill their shorts at the sight of the 2006 Texans! :))
