View Full Version : Saw Serenity....what about Firefly?
I thought this movie was pretty damn good. I remember the kinda underground buzz that the tv show Firefly got, but I never checked it out. Is it like the movie? Any opinions on it?
Seems like one of those cool things that gets overlooked because most people are tasteless :yell: :fish:
Slackmaster 07-23-2006, 12:37 AM Firefly is an incredible series.
You can get the DVD set for $25-40 depending on how you shop it.
Cool, I'll probably do that :brow:
Starkiller 07-24-2006, 12:30 AM Firefly is great. I absolutely would suggest getting the series.
I started watching Firefly about a year ago (after it was cancelled)
I liked the show
picked up Serenity - thought it was put together very well - great movie
I think the entire FireFly series is available in one set for less than $40
highly recommended
it's a shame noone felt enough about the show to give it proper backing
at least it's still a HUGE hit @ Comicon
Starkiller 07-24-2006, 01:09 AM The only reason there was a movie at all was the great sales of Firefly DVDs. It was cancelled by Fox, but they put the series out on DVD and so many people bought it, Fox figured it might be worth something after all.
Sadly the movie didn't make them any money at the box office. You can bet that the series is done (at least in terms of TV and movies).
Fox TV execs suck. They also killed another great show the next year, Wonderfalls.
Gunny 07-24-2006, 02:15 AM What is it with Fox? All the shows they kill off sell well on DVD

Actually, Universal made the movie in a deal that let FOX keep the small screen rights.
It basically made its money back at box, so the DVD and "rest of the world" screenings were icing on the cake. It did make NBC-U a little money.
Starkiller 07-24-2006, 11:41 AM Not enough that they will make another movie, sadly...
How can there be so much CRAP that people will watch, yet a lot of good stuff only has small followings? :sad2:
Sounds like I have to get this DVD set since Titans fans (having good taste of course) are recomending it :brow:
Puck, what's Comicon?

Same reason Keb Mo plays in front of 2,500 people each night, but Madonna sees 25,000. We're a fish wrapper culture.
Gunny 07-24-2006, 10:04 PM what is this show about?
Starkiller 07-24-2006, 11:04 PM what is this show about?Firefly? It's kind of hard to describe, but it's 9 people in a space ship on the frontier of space doing fun crime.
Shiny!
Starkiller 07-24-2006, 11:06 PM Puck, what's Comicon? It's essentially a comic book convention, though it also covers related TV and movies (and perhaps games as well).
Slackmaster 07-25-2006, 12:07 AM ComiCon is San Diego's annual Nerd Prom.
Gunny 07-25-2006, 12:09 AM Where Starkiller is right now. :ha:
Starkiller 07-25-2006, 10:41 AM Heh, no I'm just a geek, not an uber-geek... :geek:
Michi40 07-25-2006, 11:04 AM Is it something like this.... http://web6.campus-party.org//index.php3?lang=en&checksum=eee81fdb7bc44469865f91f44a82743a
JC, is 104ºf out there... i really dont want to be that close to 5.000 computers, and geeks camping on a closed place
Well I finally got it. 17 bucks at Best Buy....it's a steal :wink2:
Watched about half of the series so far, and you guys (and the rabid cult fanbase) were right. This was an excellent show, and a must watch to go along with the Serenity movie.
Shiny indeed
Starkiller 01-25-2007, 12:08 AM Fox TV execs suck. This simply can't be said enough...
avvie 01-25-2007, 12:46 AM Okay, so i just Googled "Firefly" and read a couple of episode synopsis.
How is the production? I'll be honest...I'm a movie type of guy, and I don't care how good a show is, if it looks like "Stargate" or "Doctor Who" (TNS), I won't sit through it.
This is why I dig "Galactica".
Slackmaster 01-25-2007, 04:01 AM Better than BSG IMO.
Zoic did the effects, and also did the effects for the BSG mini.
But it is not an effects driven show.
There is not space battles at all in the series.
It is more light and humorous in its nature than BSG, but it is much less of a "soap opera in space" that BSG became in season 2.

Well you can see a difference between the production of the movie and the tv show, but the show is still very good imo. I can't watch many tv shows either, as they just feel....I don't know, cheap? :ha:
The characters and the story really make it good, so the little things can be overlooked for me.

You would like the show and the movie. The show is a little saucy but about what you would expect. Enough action and side plot to keep it interesting. The movie ties in a big part which was totally worth it IMO. If you like Galactica you will most likely enjoy.
Watch Firefly first though. The movie make allot more sense.
If it comes back on SciFi it might have a chance. Fox has been open to bringing back shows that have failed in the past. Family Guy, Futurama is suppose to be making a comeback.
Starkiller 01-25-2007, 07:01 PM They have been showing Firefly eps on Universal HD. I am loving it...
And avvie, the production is good. It was not done on the cheap (which is probably part of why Fox canceled it...). It has a fair bit of special FX and none of them look cheesy that I can think of.
Gunny 01-25-2007, 07:05 PM how old is this show?
Blazing Arrow 01-25-2007, 07:15 PM how old is this show?
A couple years. Not to old.
Message to Fox execs : Redeem yourselves, bring back this gorram show!
Hey, has anyone seen the Chinese translations for the show and/or movie?
Gunny 01-25-2007, 08:31 PM These days a show needs to break ratings for it to stay on air longer than 3 weeks.
Starkiller 01-25-2007, 08:45 PM The ratings weren't that bad (not for Fox). Certainly not considering it was, I believe, aired on Fridays which is always a bad night for ratings. But the Fox execs made them run the episodes out of order, which screwed up the story. That only helped confuse the audience.
Gunny 01-25-2007, 08:47 PM What the hell is the point of that?
Starkiller 01-25-2007, 09:55 PM Stupid is as stupid does...
Avvie, even if you don't like the show, you may like it's cool little title song. Kind of a country/western thing, which I'm not really even in to, but it was a nice touch
