View Full Version : The official gripe about the heat thread.
titanbuoy 08-02-2006, 09:05 AM So the A/C in my car died yesterday, and I've got a nice 4 hour drive scheduled for today. Not sure what I'm looking forward to more, four hours sitting in a sweltering black car or dropping a grand or so at my local auto mechanic's to have the A/C fixed.
Let the sweating commence!
Perhaps "sweating" should become an Olympic sport. I think I'd do well in the men's 15 minute freestyle sweatoff.
The Don 08-02-2006, 12:50 PM It's hot enough now that all the fat guys start making gravy.
Mrs. Bipolar 08-02-2006, 01:24 PM No guys. It is so hot that the sweat will literally evaporate off of you. So don't sweat it! :ha:
Ewker 08-02-2006, 01:26 PM I never use my AC when driving in town or on the interstate. Just roll those windows down and let the air in.
Blazing Arrow 08-02-2006, 01:35 PM It might reach 90 today. Lucky for me I work in an ACed building
Michi40 08-02-2006, 02:20 PM Im at 104 right now... had to drive today an 18 year old Land Rover to be revised, and damm, was it hot. Oil temp was in the beginning of the red "range". Man I was scared the thing would blow.
Broken Record 08-02-2006, 03:37 PM It's hot enough now that all the fat guys start making gravy.
It's hotter than two kids humpin in a tater sack in a forest fire in backwoods Arkansas in the middle of August.
Brian 08-02-2006, 03:41 PM It's hot out.
Starkiller 08-02-2006, 04:06 PM I never use my AC when driving in town or on the interstate. Just roll those windows down and let the air in.
That's less fuel efficient than using the AC, at least above about 40 mph...
Starkiller 08-02-2006, 04:08 PM It's hot out.
Nah... mind over matter. Just go out wearing a heavy winter coat thinking about how cold it is and you'll be fine...
Gunny 08-02-2006, 07:34 PM ....Its cold
Starkiller 08-02-2006, 07:53 PM See, it's working in Australia...
Gunny 08-02-2006, 07:54 PM :ha:
Ewker 08-02-2006, 07:57 PM I never use my AC when driving in town or on the interstate. Just roll those windows down and let the air in.

the heat while driving doesn't bother me. I am not doing it to save fuel. It just feels better than driivng all couped up.
Gunny 08-02-2006, 07:59 PM how is it less fuel efficiant by rolling your windows down?
Ewker 08-02-2006, 08:00 PM beats me but I am sure we will be told :brow:
Aerodynamics
Mythbusters did a show on it, but they had to drive at like 35mph cause the SUVs could not handle the turns any faster.
bottom line, roll'em up and turn on the AC at highway speed, and roll'em down and enjoy the wind rushing thru your hair for city driving, at least as far as fuel effeciency goes. I keep my windows up and turn on the AC to get the mail, well not really but If I am driving the AC is on.
Ewker 08-02-2006, 08:09 PM you drive to get your mail??
bulluck4dMVP 08-02-2006, 10:14 PM its so hot that it should be a fire hazard to go outside:ha:
but seriously did i think it reached around 103 here today...
NYTitansFan 08-02-2006, 10:30 PM still very hot here now and its 10:30 at night. i have to wipe off my keyboard every 5 min because im sweating so much and my computer's cpu temp is 72 Degrees celsius (161 degrees fahrenheit WOW)
I have to sweat at work, but damn I wish the AC at home would keep up so I could stop sweating here. Probably low on refrigerant....again :hmm:
Gunny 08-02-2006, 10:53 PM do the Homer Simpson, set up a tent joined to your fridge....when the motor overloads, ask Marge to set the oven to cold.
It just stopped raining here and now the sun is out...sheesh melbourne weather.
That Homer guy always has some ingenious ideas :homer: Well at least I got a buddy who's in the hvac business who's going to come over tomorrow to take a looksie at this old junk.
Hey I always wondered, is heat index figured by adding in humidity?
NYTitansFan 08-02-2006, 11:23 PM thank you god theres a big big storm here now and its thundering and lightning non stop
bulluck4dMVP 08-02-2006, 11:25 PM its 11:25 here right now and its still 91 degrees, lordie lol
LazyManJackson 08-03-2006, 06:23 AM I'm at 55 right now:duckrun:
Blazing Arrow 08-03-2006, 11:13 AM High today is suppose to hit 85 with a chance of showers at the end of the week. :brow:
avvie 08-04-2006, 01:26 AM Man...I don't think I could have picked a better time to move to the tropics.
It's mid-upper 80's every day, no humidity, and when I get home from work most days it's to cold to swim.
Explained further here. (http://web.mac.com/bparnell/iWeb/Site%203/E656DBDA-B871-4C7F-AD48-AE8CCA1EF348/38DB707A-B2C2-407E-8C13-7893F4AB0402.html)
maximus 08-07-2006, 05:37 PM I was smart enough to go out and run 2.5 miles in the 100+ tempatures a couple of weeks ago, then come in and do 600 push ups and 600 crunches...then I got sick. Not doing that again
Hoffa 08-07-2006, 06:02 PM It's so hot, I saw an armored car going down the road with a screen door in the back.
LazyManJackson 08-12-2006, 04:20 PM Any chance of swapping weather with us???
just be glad we let you guys use the Gulf Stream
avvie 08-18-2006, 05:10 AM just be glad we let you guys use the Gulf Stream
