View Full Version : Henry Gets Run Game Going
goTitans.com 09-25-2006, 09:09 AM SUMMARY: For the first time in a long time, the Titans got the running game going early yesterday against the Dolphins. RB Travis Henry ran strong during the first half racking up 53 yards on 14 carries in the first half. But in the fourth quarter, Henry was stopped on two runs for minus-10 yards when the Dolphins ran safety blitzes. "They hit us two times for negative five and that kind of discouraged the play calling," Henry said. "We just never could get back on track after those two negative plays. It was good to get a chance to get in a rhythm," Henry said. "I think I got better as the game went on. I would have gotten better, but we were trying to search for a big play and we got away from running the ball."

KptTitanFan 09-25-2006, 09:42 AM LenDale's a big guy, I'd rather him learn off of watching Henry's running, instead of Brown's high and get crushed running style. Why are we keeping Brown? Seriously...
fitantitans 09-25-2006, 09:52 AM Brown won't be in 2007, thank God.
rock8titans 09-25-2006, 10:06 AM Henry is a has been. I didn't see any other teams going after him like the Titans did.

By calling Henry a has been your are admitting he was once a success. He's low mileage & can be successful again.
Sicknote Brown isn't a has been,he's a never was,we're still waitng for him to show up.
Crash Override 09-25-2006, 10:42 AM I don't know why everybody thinks Henry is so good all of the sudden. I still think he sucks. And you don't need LenDale to learn from him. This is not the qb position this is the rb position. Look at all the rookies who have been successful their first year when they started. But the only thing LenDale will need to learn as a young RB, is how to pick up the blitz, and Henry might help him there. But I think we should start White.
paraconspiracy 09-25-2006, 11:02 AM yes yes... travis henry is the man!
he had an amazing 2.85 YPC yesterday. wow... and an 11 yard run? oh, oh that just touches me in all the right places
the funny thing is that magnificent YPC is magified by an 11 yard run.. take that away and he has an eye-popping 2.45 YPC
whats even better is that he had the best run blocking of the year yesterday. henry sucks. brown sucks.
i still like brown more though. he hits the hole faster... henry can make guys miss but what good is that when you are too slow to do anything after they miss? great for short yardage... crappy for anything else.
i say we trade both at the first opportunity.
the minus yards were his fault for running backwards. he didnt get hit that deep either time
bigtitan53279 09-25-2006, 11:06 AM and an 11 yard run?
longest run by any of our runningbacks this year :hmm:
paraconspiracy 09-25-2006, 11:10 AM i refuse to believe thats a positive in any way for any player

Henry showed flashes of being a decent back when he was in Buffalo, you have to give him credit for that. Since being on the Titans he has been a shell of what he was with the Bills. Leave it up to the Titans to pick him up when nobody else wanted him.
I'm convinced Brown is made of glass. Dude get's a hang nail and he's out for weeks.
Crash Override 09-25-2006, 11:21 AM Henry is over rated, well he was even on Buffalo. He had only 2 years over 1,000 rushing yards.

I agree with you man. But he hasn't even done a fraction of that since joining the Titans. I would NEVER have picked him up, but that's a typical move by the Titans. A move Fisher probably liked and gave his blessing for. Fisher has no clue.

it's not, thats why i had the frowning face
fltitan 09-25-2006, 12:25 PM Running game never really got going and continues to be a disappointment and yes the blocking was better but still not very good. Our OL has played poorly over the last 2 or 3 years, is it Munch or the lack of talent or both. I hope we spend some money in FA on the OL and maybe take someone like Joe Thomas with what appears to be a very high draft choice.
TitanJeff 09-25-2006, 12:54 PM It tells you how bad things have been when we get excited over one half of a decent rushing game against at team who has given up a ton against the run already.

Brown just sucks period, he doesn't hit the hole faster have you watched him tap dance at the line of scrimmage? He's got a long of 9 yds this year and that was a 5 yd gain he tripped forward on (sacasm I don't even remember him playing before he was hurt again). He's too indecisive at the line, seems he's not sure which hole to hit when he has the ball.
Vigsted 09-25-2006, 01:17 PM Sicknote Brown isn't a has been,he's a never was,we're still waitng for him to show up.
Yet Brown has consistently more yardage and a better ypc than Henry... go figure....
Crash Override 09-25-2006, 01:39 PM Brown was never really a true RB, he was a WR, but I still think he is better than Henry.

brown a stats guy. he consistently gets 2-3 yards with a nice 30 yarder in there to give him a healthy YPC.
you dont get this with chris

You're right, he never stiff arms someone for a 1 yard gain... again I don't understand why some of you are so enamoured with Henry's "hard" running, when he isn't going anywhere....
I'm thinking we can call the Jets and the Dolphins about equal on defence, yet Brown had 64 yards on 16 carries and Henry had 60 on 21. In the Jets game Henry ran 7 times for 18 yards (discounting the TD runs yards) as well.... and only 1 of the 7 runs was a 3rd and short.
bigtitan53279 09-25-2006, 02:40 PM because has the ability to wear down defense, it's the other way around with brown.

Ok..I'll settle this

He's done. Fisher is on a roll sitting players who complain and ask to be traded...funny..ha
Maybe he's coming out of his shell finally. It's ok Jeff if you show some emotion and lay the law.
Broken Record 09-25-2006, 03:18 PM I'm thinking we can call the Jets and the Dolphins about equal on defence, yet Brown had 64 yards on 16 carries and Henry had 60 on 21.
I realize it is early in the season, but they do have a similar opponent (us) and currently Miami is ranked 6th in team D and the Jets are ranked 30th.
Vigsted 09-25-2006, 03:47 PM Miami gives up an average 4.7 ypc against Jet's 5 ypc (our games not withstanding), I'd say it's fair to say they are close to equal with a slight edge to Miami. Still Brown's numbers are considerably better, even if you just look at the production in the Jets game alone (in which btw Henry got injured so he had to miss the Chargers game).
Broken Record 09-25-2006, 04:02 PM Henry is the style running back Fisher prefers. Fisher got what he wanted out of Henry in the first half yesterday. I think we'll see more of Henry and less of Brown as the season goes on.
Soxcat 09-25-2006, 04:46 PM For those who think both Henry and Brown suck I guess we have to include LW in there as well. He hasn't exactly been real successfull either.
For those who think Henry is so much better than Brown or that say Brown is a no yardage for 10 carries and then he gets one long one which is why is YPC is decent consider this. 9 of Henry's 21 carries in the game were for 1 yard or less. Also, Henry had a nice 9 yard carry in the Titan's first drive but got destroyed on 3rd and 1. I guess if Brown had been the one carrying the ball we would have heard of that one. How about Henry having injury problems since day one?
The bottom line is our RBs are not as bad as they look because running schemes are no good. We could have Eddie in his prime and we would have a hard time getting 100 yards.
Our OL was not any better in 2004 when Brown averaged almost 5 YPC and Brown went over 100 yards 6 times and had one game with 91 yards (thats while missing 5 games completely). Pass that off however you want but Jim Brown would have a hard time doing that in this offense. Chris Brown didn't suddenly start stinking up the place. He certainly is not over the hill and infact over the last two off seasons if anything he has become stronger. Henry is not over the hill either. The problem with the running game has got to be the scheme.
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 09-25-2006, 05:14 PM Soxcat, you are right about alot of things there... and I may be half dellusional for getting all excited of TH's ho-hum performance... but Henry looks like a running back. He runs square and with power and believe it or not I saw him hit the hole with speed and pop a few guys. I saw him shrug some would be tacklers.
I didn't wince when the qb handed him the ball.
Vigsted 09-25-2006, 05:29 PM I didn't wince when the qb handed him the ball.
But your heartrate didn't spike because you thought he might break a big one either.
Both guys would look quite a bit better with better blocking. Maybe some of it is scheme related, I don't know. Not much different than last year.
