View Full Version : Thompson, Others Put on Notice for Missing Plays
goTitans.com 09-25-2006, 06:53 PM SUMMARY: On Monday, Titans coach Jeff Fisher was asked about S Lamont Thompson's missed tackle on a long gain by Marty Booker. "You have to make those plays," said Fisher. "Obviously he’s been put on notice along with the rest of the guys that weren’t making those type of plays in the defensive scheme that we needed to." When asked to detail what he meant by being "put on notice", Fisher said, "You get a guy in a situation to make a play he’s got to make the play. If it happens again then you’ve got to find someone else to make that play. It’s pretty simple."

TitanKid4Life 09-25-2006, 07:15 PM this is the type of article many of us are going to like
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 09-25-2006, 07:23 PM this is bs. put on notice? c'mon. I've been a real fisher guy lately but give me a stinkin' break. this is bull crap. fisher needs to stick his foot where the "sun don't shine". That kind of play should not be tolerated. This is a bad message in my opinion. I want action. these words of his are horse hockey.
bigtitan53279 09-25-2006, 07:25 PM people have been saying for a few weeks guys have gotten too complacent and arent afraid they're going to lose their jobs. well, now he threatens to bench some people, and he still gets called out. the man can do no right.
TitanKid4Life 09-25-2006, 07:31 PM i would like to see calvin lowry in at fs, at least we know he will hit people as hard as he can

no. he was doing fine in my book until now. i'll just trust him. i really feel strongly that the ax should fall over this and some maggot scrubs get promoted. these players need to be pissed that they just got sacked. that's where I am coming from. this may sound like desperation, but it's not. It is my opinion that overall Fisher was too tolerant last year. He needs to quit this hang on loosely approach now and make someone go home and cry tears of despair. He needs to get vocal and mean. I'm serious. Fisher needs to be a pit bull right now. Never satisfied. He needs to get this thing right before it goes way too wrong way too soon. It's not even october.
I still think Vince Young will change the whole vibe and dynamic of the team.
GOFIGURETITANS 09-25-2006, 07:38 PM LT and RH should have been put on notice in the pre season. What the h_ll is that anyways? "Timeout" without having to sit in the corner? Are these boys or men?

If you're talking about Lowry's hit, he practically close-lined the guy. He was completely horizontal at Lowry's chest level, and his head was stuck in Lowry's pit.
TitanKid4Life 09-25-2006, 07:46 PM RIGHT ON. THAT WAS THE BEST HIT IN THE GAME!!!:wack:  :beerbang:
i thought he close linned him for a sec, and i was like crap thats what the penalty is =[ but it wasnt so it was funny as h_ll again

I remember that. I thought that looked as if it was going to draw a fine. I remember typing "that's going to be a fine" in the chat room. That was #28? What do you think of it? Seems like it drew a penalty, didn't it?

It was Lowry #37 and I don't believe it drew a penalty. I would remeber because I would have been screaming at the TV. "Finally a Titan lays some serious wood only to get a penalty?"
Know what I mean?
TitanKid4Life 09-25-2006, 07:55 PM lowry was really the only hard hit that i saw from the titans

i kno exactly what u mean, its like when we get a big play something always happens, like pacs td, and scaife fumbling on the 3 yd line, and having collins as our qb

GOFIGURETITANS 09-25-2006, 08:11 PM Awesome Pic!!!
Bulluckfan 09-25-2006, 08:35 PM Lowry shows how much attitude matters. Welker is not a big guy, but neither is Lowry. But he hits HARD. He tries to run through the ball carrier. It's clear that Schwartz hasn't yet coached him.
I so want to see either Fuller or Lowery. Do it Fish :fish:
PhiSlammaJamma 09-25-2006, 08:40 PM If a play really is missing, I'm not all that dissapointed. I hope nobody ever finds it.

TitanKid4Life 09-25-2006, 09:06 PM bulluckfan that is possibly one of the best statements about shwartz i have ever had the pleasure of reading
yeah it'd be nice to see more Lowry / Finnegan
zackmann 09-26-2006, 11:43 AM sounds great...bench thompson now!!!
Well, it's a step forward at least.
I guess that you have to suck for several games before you get put on notice. And then you have to suck some games more before you finally get benched. At this rate, we will probably see some changes at the end of the season.
fitantitans 09-26-2006, 12:23 PM I can't believe you guys aren't trying to figure out whom Fisher is talking about, other than Thompson. I am guessing......hoping....Hill, Pillar & Collins.
I'm very dissappointed with Thompson. I used to say that he could hit like Blaine Bishop. That crap went bad fast. He looks lost out there.
And, didn't Fisher say something about making 'line changes' after the Jets game? I thinks he did. Stop talking and do something!
fltitan 09-26-2006, 12:31 PM In our defense the safety position is critical and Thompson just can't make the play. Put one of the young guys in and let him get experience at least they will hit someone and might even play the pass.
GoTitans3801 09-26-2006, 01:00 PM I think other than LT it's Hill, Piller, and Olsen. I'm hoping we can use injuries as excuses to move bell into guard and try to get Stewart in there. Our guard play has been terrible, and they're getting penalties left and right.
fairwin 09-26-2006, 01:24 PM can't recall... uh, let me guess... jumped on his back and rode him like a horsie? (I'm totally serious)
I do remember that!
LT knocked Muhammed out cold at the goal-line. That was his very first game with us after we picked him up off wavers from the Bengals. He had two really great hits in that game with Carolina (that might be that last two really big hits he's had).
Sledge 09-26-2006, 03:03 PM lowry was really the only hard hit that i saw from the titans
Hope laid a few licks on Brown in the first half.
Soxcat 09-26-2006, 03:08 PM This calling out deal is a bunch of BS anyway. LT didn't miss tackles or ride a WR like a horse because he wasn't giving it 100%. He misses tackles, coverages and basically plays like a dork because he isn't very good. You can call this guy out all day, night, week, month or year and it will not make any difference. If this was a hustle issue or an attitude problem maybe. The problem is the guy stinks.
Vigsted 09-26-2006, 03:15 PM Hope laid a few licks on Brown in the first half.
Hope was providing great soundeffects all game long, you could really hear when he hit somebody. It was nice, reminded me of the Titans of old.
Lowry shows how much attitude matters. Welker is not a big guy, but neither is Lowry. But he hits HARD. He tries to run through the ball carrier. It's clear that Schwartz hasn't yet coached him.
Let's hope he never does!!!
Then again, I'd like to see him knocking out some ballcarriers and recievers and not just on special teams.
Gut
Titansfan10 09-26-2006, 08:07 PM i saw the hit by thompson...yah sure it was nice but hes still making a living off of it....Chris Hope laid some nasty hits on the dolphins...glad we have him
cld12pk2go 09-26-2006, 09:40 PM I think other than LT it's Hill, Piller, and Olsen. I'm hoping we can use injuries as excuses to move bell into guard and try to get Stewart in there. Our guard play has been terrible, and they're getting penalties left and right.
I concur; those 4 have been responsible for a disproportionaly large amount of our suckage...time to get some new blood in.
I think KFC gets a few more weeks to prove himself since he was literally just tossed into the mix. If he shows as much improvement next week as he did this week, he might not actually stink. Crazy no?
Vigsted 09-27-2006, 09:25 AM What or who is Haynesworth talking about?
"I think (some players) get the starting job by default, because you were a first-round draft pick or second round or whatever. … When I came in I didn't start and I was a first-round pick. My jersey wasn't in the stores or anything like that.
"We had a whole lot bigger guys than I was out here, big-name guys. You had to earn your way into it, and now you see the draft picks and they are almost automatically going to get to start.''
Only 2 of our recent top draft picks are starting and that's Pacman, Troupe and Roos and surely Albert can't be thinking they haven't earned it. Then there's Laboy (2nd) starting out of need, because we don't have any other DE's really.
So who is he refering to? Hill is the only starting player that we drafted that hasn't earned his spot, imo.
Gunny 09-27-2006, 10:27 AM Hill earnt it last year.
Hill earnt it last year.
But he is rapidly earning a place on the bench if he keeps this up.
Gut
Gunny 09-27-2006, 10:44 AM Not denying that.
Hill appeared to play pretty decently last year...better than this. What's your take on him playing worse after a full season starting?
Gut
Gunny 09-27-2006, 11:07 AM Worse or no improvement?
fltitan 09-27-2006, 11:58 AM Worse Gunny I'm a Hill fan but he seems lost this year. Looks like he's trying to guess as to what the play is instead of reading keys and just trusting his instincts
Riverman 09-27-2006, 12:20 PM Hill had 3 picks because he was route jumping. Receivers picked up on it. He got consistently burned end of last season. He has ALWAYS tackled like a girl. People were excited about him because Woolfolk continued to be a huge disappointment playing such "soft" coverage. Woolfolk can hit though.
This year, Reynaldo looks the same minus the few picks. IMO, he won't ever be back to that level- just a flash in the pan. Time to put Finnegan out there and let Reynaldo earn his way back on ST's.
rock8titans 09-27-2006, 01:03 PM Well, it's a step forward at least.
I guess that you have to suck for several games before you get put on notice. And then you have to suck some games more before you finally get benched. At this rate, we will probably see some changes at the end of the season.
WHAT A JOKE.
Fish is just saying that so that he keeps the dogs off for a while and buys some time. He knows this is what the media/fans want to hear, but whether he ACTUALLY does anything remains to be seen. I say he won't, because even if LT or RH make one decent tackle that will clear them of being in the dog house. I see them taking 1 step forward, 2 steps back..and Fish will leave them alone claiming he saw improvement.
TitanKid4Life 09-27-2006, 02:34 PM well something has to be done and soon, because when we give up big plays like some of these players are doing something has to be done, and until something happens, its going to continue to happen throughout the season

Huh?
Well said man...
Vigsted 10-01-2006, 05:40 PM So did any of the players on so called notice step up today?
It'll be interesting to see what happens during the week and for the next game. If Fisher stands by his words changes have to be made. imo.
Ewker 10-01-2006, 07:26 PM I know Lamont didn't. He rode one Cowboy RB for a few yards
avvie 10-01-2006, 07:54 PM I know Lamont didn't. He rode one Cowboy RB for a few yards
Well, he had to step up to get on his back, right?
Soxcat 10-01-2006, 09:18 PM It is getting tough for Fisher. Our whole DL played terribly. Sirmon needs to sit, he just doesn't have the instincts to play MLB. LT needs to be the ball boy. Our DC needs to be run over by T-Rac.
Ewker 10-01-2006, 10:01 PM Well, he had to step up to get on his back, right?
naw, he just jumped on as he ran past him :ha:
Hill, Thompson, Sirmon and LaBoy need to be replaced
The OL looked improved with Piller nursing his boo-boo, at least the first half. Of course both units were out Xed and Oed at the half. But Chow and dehr Schwartzie have that done to them every game.
Henry was a healthy scratch. Makes sense if White is gonna play.
Childress79 10-02-2006, 11:49 AM LT needs to be the ball boy.
I doubt he has the skills required :grrhee:

That hair has to slow/weigh him down. If I was owner or coach, I would make them cut that crap.
Riverman 10-03-2006, 07:01 AM Fisher you are now a joke in my book.
How about the putting your coordinators on notice. It is so painfully obvious to EVERYONE that you have lost this team because you hold on to that excuse of a DC. We're now last in the league in run defense. LAST- ummmh Wake UP. Fire Schwartz!
Ewker 10-03-2006, 08:52 AM That hair has to slow/weigh him down. If I was owner or coach, I would make them cut that crap.
are you jealous he has hair or do you still wear a flat top :))
Flat tops are the best
