View Full Version : What about the other player controversy?
oilerstruck 09-26-2006, 07:09 PM With so much being said in the Vince Young vs. Kerry Collin debate, there is one debate that is not being heard but is equally as important. Our goal this year was to bring back the run. Chris Brown again has proven he can’t stay on the field and be the “feature” back. Travis is good in spurts back can’t seem to carry the team either. It is time to see what LenDale White can do. I don’t mean 2-3 carries in a game but 20-25. We must give him a shot to see whether he is our future or whether we need to draft a feature back with the number one pick we seem to be earning. What do you guys think?

I agree, one carry a game is not sufficient AT ALL. We seem to be the only team who doesn't want to rotate our rookie RB in for some touches.
LazyManJackson 09-26-2006, 07:15 PM Give Lendale White the Skins game I say, let him have around 20 carries there...lets give Henry another go against the Colts, dunno what's going on with Brown, is he still questionable???
Gunny 09-26-2006, 07:49 PM Questionable is Browns middle name.
oilerstruck 09-26-2006, 09:04 PM Questionable is Browns middle name.
Do doubt. His agent keep pushing us to trade him so he could be "the guy" somewhere else. I can see him filling that role anywhere in the NFL. Talented? Yes. Explosive? Yes Feature Back? NO
Broken Record 09-26-2006, 09:30 PM Henry is the kind of back who usually gets better with more carries. I'd like to see us give Henry three or four games with all of the touches and then let White take over later in the season. I also hope we actually do what Fisher said and actually commit to running the ball. White got off to a slow start with the injury problems and I'm not sure he's ready to carry the entire load yet. Regarding Brown... maybe he shouldn't have asked to be traded.
cld12pk2go 09-26-2006, 09:43 PM I voted Henry for now. In 3-4 weeks, I am expecting White to start to become impactful.
wplatham 09-26-2006, 09:52 PM I can't believe we had only two back active and White only got 1 carry. WTF?! I figured he'd get five or ten. I think he could be dangerous when he's given 20-25 carries. He runs hard and gets tackled falling forward. It's only matter of time before he breaks one open.
Riverman 09-26-2006, 09:53 PM Henry should get the start until we see White do something other than 3 yards downhill.
Oh yeah- you should change White's name on the poll to:
Mr. "I spit in your face" White if you're going to knock the other guys also.
I have been down on Henry, but he has been impressive in his off-season workouts, his training camp and the carries he has been given. He was knocking off 7-8 yds out of nothing against the Fins. He's earned it.

I totaly agree. 20-25 carries would prove his worth. What are we waiting for?

How can we see him do something else when he gets less than 5 carries a game?
TitanKid4Life 09-27-2006, 02:30 PM should be white getting at least half of the carries with henry, but we havent been able to see enough of lendale to truly know what he can do

I have ZERO confidence having Henry in the backfield carrying the load. Expect to have NO RUNNING game for a while, until they give LenDale a chance, which will hopefully eventually open up the passing game.
Until then, expect a lot of the same from weeks 1 through 3. A lot of 3 and outs.
Blazing Arrow 09-27-2006, 03:02 PM I have a feeling when we see Young we will see White more. White has had that nagging injury and I bet they want him fresh for after the bye week. I have said it before I am not a Henry fan but at least he is on the field. I am not even sure what Brown is doing. If I were him in a contract season I would defiantly be asking for the ball even if my wittle toey is huwting. This is his career right now. If he sits out another season I could not imagine him being higher then a #3 on most teams. Why waist the money?
Riverman 09-27-2006, 06:48 PM I've been as hard on Henry as anybody on the board. But hey- it appears all the props he was getting for his off-season work wasn't just feel good PR. He looked good against the Fins. And yeah- I agree with Henry the offensive play calling in the second half was ....offensive. Henry deserves the start more than any of the others at this point.
LT21Titans27 09-27-2006, 07:10 PM the difference between Henry and Brown is that Henry doesnt come out after one play with a minor case of turf toe, and yet we still dont put White in and give him a consistent chance

What Henry are you talking about? The Travis Henry that I saw against the Fins did a pretty good job at powering through some of those defensive guys. I would rather have Henry start over Brown any day. Brown has more speed, but he also must have in his contract to only get 5 touches a game. Henry and Brown had the same injury on gameday Sunday. Henry played, Brown didn't. I know Eddie George would have played. That is why I give props to Travis for trying to be a warrior out there. I actually think that Henry could have been even more effective if they would have rotated him with White a lot more. Oh, and the Titans had 3 HBs and 1 FB active in that game. RBs Henry, White, and Ganther... FB(TE) Cramer. One thing that confused me was the amount of QBs that were active in the game... I thought that a team was required to have 3 active QBs. Did they have Hentrich or Bennett as an emergency third?
smili 09-27-2006, 09:01 PM On Plaster's show today John McClain indicated White a serious lack of work ethic. Hadn't heard it stated quite so bluntly, although there have been suspicions
Hoffa 09-27-2006, 09:03 PM I think his fat gut, and the empty Big Mac wrappers in his locker caused some suspicions.
Crash Override 09-27-2006, 09:04 PM If White actually was a hard worker, he could possibly be one of the best backs in the league.

Except Henry sat out the previous game nursing his toe injury, so he's not that tough, he just had a personal bye week to rest his toe.
Soxcat 09-28-2006, 08:18 AM The Titans have a hard time keeping White, Brown and Henry all active on game day because none of the three play STs. Of course Ganther's ST play of the week might have cost of the game. Thats is why we can expect the least healthy of the three to be inactive for games.
Henry has not been any more healthy than Brown form the first day he arrived. Infact a case could be made that Brown has been just as healthy or healthier and Lendale certainly has had his injury issues.
I really don't think it makes much difference who our RB is. Henry did look good in the first half but couldn't do anything much in the second half. I'm not sure White has the confidence of the coaches yet to pick up blitzes and to be in the right place. I doubt White is better than Henry or Brown as a runner but we can hope.
oilerstruck 10-01-2006, 12:45 PM Okay, so we finally made the 1st commitment to our future. Vince is starting today! Yes he is going to make mistakes and will get hit. Who cares, it’s all part of the growing process. Besides he gives a better chance to win that the old guy “vet” who is make rookie type mistakes. Now back to this posts message, what about LenDale? Both need to be ought there!
moose4now 10-01-2006, 04:13 PM I voted for White.
If we're going to play VY, I say we put White in there, too.
metal957 10-01-2006, 08:17 PM I say Lendale for a good part of it and then throw Chris in there to change the pace.

I agree. White should be the "carry the load" guy with Chris coming in a giving us a fresh leg that could break the game open with his home run threat. However, for it to work perfectly, we need to have a lead before we can play the ball control game. If our defense keeps giving up yardage & points like the did yesterday, it might be next year before we can totaly utilize White as the running game is useless while trying to come back in a route.
