rock8titans 09-28-2006, 01:38 PM Curious how my fellow Titan comrades feel about a certain color commentator on ESPN's Monday Night Football.
Am I alone when I say Tony Kornheiser is a tad annoying with his sarcastic commentary? I am almost embarassed at times with the things he come up with. It seems to me like he is going out of his way(almost grasping at air at times) to be funny, but he's usually not. I thought his predecessor Dennis Miller did an equally bad job. Just surprised after they saw how Miller was a flop with ABC they would have someone in their trio who has similar material. I don't think Tony fits in, although Theisman and Tirico are good.
Just heard the guys on the Sports Reporters on WNSR talk about him and was curious how you all felt.
rock8titans 09-28-2006, 01:44 PM For those fans like myself that are out of the Tennessee area and would like to follow Titan news, I found a few good sports radio stations that I listen to and switch between during the work day here on the east coast through Streaming Audio.
Sports radio 650 WNSR is especially cool at 12pm CST with the Sports Reporters. Don West is hilarious.

This one is pretty good too depending on the time of day.

titanbuoy 09-28-2006, 01:47 PM I actually like Kornheiser. Finally someone who is willing to call Joe Thiessmann on his (rhymes with hit).
moose4now 09-28-2006, 02:02 PM [QUOTE=titanbuoy]I actually like Kornheiser.[QUOTE]
So do I.
rock8titans 09-28-2006, 02:05 PM Wow.. I'm on an island so far...
bigtitan53279 09-28-2006, 02:09 PM i prefer kornheiser over theisman
Hoffa 09-28-2006, 02:12 PM I like Kornheiser.
Didn't think I would, but I do.
rock8titans 09-28-2006, 02:15 PM Interesting. yeah I know a lot of people dislike Theisman, I like his straightfowardness, and honesty.
KamikaZ 09-28-2006, 02:16 PM I'm used to Kornheiser (he writes articles for the Washington Post almost on the daily), so I like him. I hate Theisman.
SupDawg 09-28-2006, 03:24 PM I hate them both.. Tirico is good. I actually prefer Miller, at least he got you to think.
Childress79 09-28-2006, 03:46 PM Bring Jerry Glanville back to the booth
skitch 09-28-2006, 04:49 PM I actually like Kornheiser. Finally someone who is willing to call Joe Thiessmann on his (rhymes with hit).
Agree.
Did I really hear Theisman talking about the turf the other night and say they needed to let it grow?
THEY WERE INSIDE THE SUPERDOME!
HALL97ROX 09-28-2006, 04:59 PM Agree.
Did I really hear Theisman talking about the turf the other night and say they needed to let it grow?
THEY WERE INSIDE THE SUPERDOME!
They were talking about the turf being new and not compressed to the ground yet, thus being like tall grass and that it was slowing down the Falcons. He was saying that other teams need to let the turf grow to slow down Vick & Co when they play them.
PS I like Kornheiser (I still miss his radio show)
flamehead2 09-29-2006, 01:13 AM Kornheiser SUCKS!
ESPN has done a poor job of MNF so far.
Gunny 09-29-2006, 01:25 AM rock8titans is a Titans fan?
I don't think I ever read anything positive from him.
The Mrs 09-29-2006, 02:47 AM I love Tony!
Blazing Arrow 09-29-2006, 03:08 AM Kornheiser SUCKS!

Compaired to last season??!! How many people would mute the TV instead of hearing Miller babble on about some lame joke that 1/2 the country did not get and NO ONE in the booth got. I wanted the dude with the mustache to sock him one time. I figured they would get him liquored up enough in one of the lighter games and *POW* Miller is down for the count!
Never happened though ..... :hmm:
Gunny 09-29-2006, 05:11 AM Miller?
paraconspiracy 09-29-2006, 09:07 AM dennis miller... commedian... former part of the monday night football trio... lasted one year. jokes that most americans watching football arent smart enough to understand.
he went a little overboard sometimes trying to be funny... but i think he succeded at aleast as much as he failed
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 09-29-2006, 09:10 AM TK is playing the Dennis Miller role in MNF. He is doing just what they put him there for. MNF has a formula, and comic relief is part of it. This is all in an effort to draw primetime market share. Not everyone is suppossed to like him in the booth. This is intentional on the part of Disney/espn/abc.

I thought he was talking Dennis Miller but he wasn't on MNF last season. He was on in the 2000 season.
I remember the Jags game when the players introduce themselves and as the Titans were doing it, Miller put himself in there and the next play the Titans got flagged for 12 players on the field.
It was a funny coincidence.
rock8titans 09-29-2006, 11:24 AM rock8titans is a Titans fan?

Funny Gunny.. perhaps I'm the voice of reason.
Blazing Arrow 09-29-2006, 07:10 PM I thought he was talking Dennis Miller but he wasn't on MNF last season. He was on in the 2000 season.
That season still haunts me. It was 2001 though.

Gunny 09-29-2006, 11:28 PM He was on in 2000 as well.
Gunny 09-29-2006, 11:29 PM Funny Gunny.. perhaps I'm the voice of reason.
perhaps you're a sexually frustrated troll?
Crash Override 09-29-2006, 11:31 PM Theismann needs to go, he has no idea what he is saying most of the time. Kornheiser and the other dude are ok, but I would prefer Madden and Micheals over them.
avvie 09-30-2006, 02:52 AM I missed the MNF broadcast. Since Vick was on the field, did Theisman show up wearing a leather thong teddy? I forgot to check the net when I got home from work.
rock8titans 09-30-2006, 04:13 AM perhaps you're a sexually frustrated troll?
:sleepy:
Hope that isn't your best comeback.

Oh, and like Madden ever says anything worthwile. The guy talks in circles :ha:

Truth needs no comeback, Troll.
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 09-30-2006, 08:23 AM I'd rather see Sean Salisbury or Mark Schlereth than Joe Theisman.
Broken Record 09-30-2006, 09:45 AM My 20 inch Magnavox circa 1979 doesn't have working speakers. What are these "commentators" you speak of?
titanbuoy 09-30-2006, 10:13 AM I can't believe I'm saying this but Deion Sanders is actually a really good analyst. Once you get past his hysterical, annoying delivery he really comes up with some salient non-clichéd points. Sanders has always been a very media savvy guy, remember this is the guy who created "Neon Deion" in order to create a buzz about himself and elevate his status in the NFL draft and thus put money in his pocket (in 1989 CB's got no hype what so ever). As much as his style kind of rubs me the wrong way, he's usually right on point with his opinions, while others around him seem to get caught up in media hype. Mike, Deion and Tony would be a lively booth.
rock8titans 09-30-2006, 10:43 AM Truth needs no comeback, Troll.
:makefun: Wait..is Gunny female?
rock8titans 09-30-2006, 10:44 AM Truth needs no comeback, Troll.
You bore me Gunny...sorry.
Bayou Titan 09-30-2006, 11:37 AM Tony Kornheiser is the worst in my opinion. He offers no insight and is not funny which makes him absolutely useless. His attempt at sarcasm is always lame and his critique of coaching decisions are laughable (in a non-funny way ). Of course he gets a free pass from the media because he is one of them. I've only seen positive news about him from the media which I expect as the media generally dictates public opinion because sheeople can't form their own opinion.
But I'm not bitter.......

Unless of course you read this thread in which quite a few people have expressed a positive opinion of TK (that is assuming you're not just refering to anyone whose opinion on Tony differs to yours as "sheeople") :suspect:

Couldn't have said it better myself, another quality post. :beer2:
bigtitan53279 09-30-2006, 01:10 PM dennis miller was the worst thing abc ever did to monday night football.

anybody other than Theisman

If I were refering to anyone that differs with my opinion as sheeople I would have said it. Since I didn't say that, I meant just what I wrote. The media has an solid control of the public's opinion as a whole. If people are basing their opinions on TK's performance and not just his popularity amongst his peers and their high praise of his performance, then I can respect that they are not followers. But then what I wouldn't understand would be how they came to that conclusion. I would love to hear examples of his insight to the game because what I have heard is not worth 2 cents (that's 50 canadian dollars btw). Just because people don't like Theisman and he offsets Theisman doesn't make him successful. It just means the entire booth has gone even further south. If people honestly thinks he is good at analyzing the game then I can respect that, if they actually believe has provides insight. On the other hand if they like PTI and TK performance on there then I encourage them to open mindedly listen to what he says during the broadcast. If after that they still believe he does a good job then they are certainly not sheeople. But if you do that and hear what I hear then you know you have been sheeopled but it's ok, the first step is to recognize the flock and just simply walk away. I would hate from them to just be sheeople in the herd.
