In a very interesting statement by Chris Mortensen on NFL Sunday Countown. He said Jerry Jones is very much interested in Jeff Fisher to take over the Cowboys after Parcells takes to the hills. Also stating that the Bud is probably going to exercise the 1 year clause for next year to keep Fisher another year but he said more interestingly that Fisher wants "some front office realignments". What are the possbilities here????

yup. this info surfaced a week or two ago here on the forum.
I believe Gunny made a rumor mill thread on it...http://www.gotitans.com/goForum/showthread.php?t=22596
edit: there it is
or maybe someone mentioned it in a thread...

this is not a good sign if you like Fisher.

Bud is really the guy holding the cards here...he decides whether Fish stays or goes. A couple of possibilities....

Bud could dangle a carrot in front of Fisher by offering him greater control over personnel decisions....particularly on draft day. Every coach dreams of having complete control over his own roster....this could very easily become the deciding factor in whether Fish stays or goes.

Also, consider the success rookie HC's have had so far this year. The Saints, Vikings, Jets, Rams....all have exceeded preseason expectations after hiring first-time head coaches. This could give the Bud the courage to let Fisher walk, and go with a younger, less expensive candidate.

If Bud sees enough demand for Fisher, it's possible that he could exercise Fisher's option, then trade him to another organization in a blockbuster deal similar to the Bucs/Raiders deal for Jon Gruden. (As I recall, the Raiders got two #1's and two #2's from the Bucs). Obviously, such a deal would require a great deal of negotiation...not only would the teams have to agree on the terms of the trade, but Fish would have to agree to a contract extension with the new team before anything could happen. But it's certainly a possibility.

I would hate it if he went to Dallas.

I think Fisher has had enough here. I bet he goes.

I though the NFL made changes to prevent the Gruden type deal. Am I wrong?

No, you are correct. You can't get draft pics anymore for compensation.

Bud was under contract with the City of Houston. Deals can be done and things can change.

My prediction... we keep Fisher if we win two of the last four. If we lose three of them, he's gone. The note that we close the season on is important, somethings will be forgotten if we finish well.

If Fisher leaves its over.....bottom line might as well look for a nice sweet spot in LA

Ouch. No way. Titans are staying in nashville, just got new sponsership on the stadium, tickets still constantly sell out quickly... That's some bad additude buddy.

IMHO, Fisher stays and Reese is gone. I don't know if another GM comes in or if it all goes on Fisher's head, but I think that's the way things will shake out.

And I guess then we'll see...

As TC25 said in the original post... Mortenson said Adams is expected to sign the extension and "get a few problems in the front office ironed out".

Bye-Bye Floyd.

Fisher is 99-91 as a head coach and hasn't beat a winning team since 2003. I am ready for a new face around here.

He hasn't had much to work with since then, either.

He has the same cap every team does. NE manages to keep on winning or at least looking like a football team. Fisher runs off his only QB with any NFL experience so Vince can play this year? I can't believe even Fish is that dumb. It's almost like he wants to be fired so he can move on. We are not going to win many games this year, you would think he would play some other players to evaluate for the future, IF there is a future. I see a huge shake up coming at BSP.

i doubt very much steve leaving was fisher's decison.

yep if anyone is gone i suspect it is floyd.

other owners in the nfl can see the age and experience level of the titans and the lack of quality of some of the drafts. the reason why some teams can rebuild faster.

Ummmmmm... Ok first off No we didn't have the same cap as everyone else, the past few years has been a salary Purged team that came as a result of this ball club being very competitive, play-off's, AFC championships, Superbowl.... and with a cap purged team, you begin to lose your big players, and thus begins the rebuilding process..Fish didn't run mcnair off, this is a business of numbers... whether we like it or not it's rebuilding and as embarassing as yesterday was that needs to be kept in mind...
Fish isn't going anywhere IMHO...

I was talking about Volek, not McNair. If it is true that Fisher wanted to beef up the defense with the draft, Volek would have been adequate at QB. He just needed some talent around him, mainly defense. McNair was too expensive to keep. Now we have spent $56M for a QB, and that may or may not work out, but you can sure buy a lot of talent at other positions for that kind of money.

It's only tampering if Jones starts talking to Fisher w/o the Titans permission
if it's true (which I don't think it is) Jones would wait till Parcells announces
his retirement and Fisher was fired as Titans h/c before talks began between
him and Jerry. in related news Parcells was asked if he thought of retirement
after the season was done, His responce "I'm not ready to ride that hearse
out just yet"

Tell me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that the Chiefs gave the Jets a 4th round pick in compensation for Herman Edwards.

Yup. They did.

As far as I know, you can still trade picks for a coach. It has to be approved by the NFL like any other trade.

Anyone have a link to something which states otherwise?

Not hardly. We were 4-12 last year and that was with mcnair not some rookie. Nobody expects a playoff berth but how about a little competitive football? We have not come close to providing that.

People like fisher personally and want to blame anything and everyone for our failures except him but he is the one who hired and keeps schwartz and he hired chow. This is simply not a well coached team in so many different ways.

A better coached team can regularly be found on the other sidelines. Fisher is not a victim of this team's failures but a participant.

Thank goodness for the houston texans because 3 of our 6 wins the last 2 years have come against that pathetic bunch.

Your article was from January 16. Edwards was traded just before. Funny that wasn't mentioned in the article.

I can't find anything which says they overturned the rule so I stand corrected.

January 16, 2003 Jeff.
I don't know what's going on...
and I'm not correcting anyone...

I'm just being everyones pet lycos like I always do.

Forget for a moment the lack of honor from Edwards, who was introduced on Monday as the Kansas City Chiefs new coach, reportedly for $12 million over four years. Think instead of the impact of what he's done, and what the Chiefs have done by trading a fourth-round pick (a four!) to acquire Edwards from the Jets.
