View Full Version : Titans Crushed by Jaguars 37-7
goTitans.com 11-05-2006, 04:54 PM SUMMARY: Titans rookie QB Vince Young threw three interceptions while Jaguars QB David Garrard passed for three touchdowns as Tennessee was dominated by Jacksonville 37-7. The Titans had another miserable day offensively and had only one first quarter first down because of a running into the kicker penalty. Young had a 6.7 passer rating the first half as he went 8 for 21 with two interception and the Titans found themselves down 20-0 at halftime. The Titans had another tough time slowing the run as the Jaguars rushed for 173 yards on the day.

bigtitan53279 11-05-2006, 04:55 PM the playcalling in the first half was dreadful.
TitanKid4Life 11-05-2006, 05:02 PM yea, that didnt help any, the dropped balls are what killed us tho
Broken Record 11-05-2006, 05:17 PM The Jaguars are what killed us. They scored 37 points and they held us to one garbage time touchdown. We could have had our best day of the year on either side of the ball and we still probably lose this game.
That team is just flat out better than us. They won't be for long, but right now they certainly are.
GoTitans3801 11-05-2006, 05:19 PM They were certainly better today, but the score was more lopsided than the game. It certainly wasn't a close game, but damn, that was embarassing. They were much better in all aspects of the game.
lowery21 11-05-2006, 05:26 PM The Wrs should all resign in disgrace. How can they pick up their paychecks with out vomiting?
Broken Record 11-05-2006, 05:34 PM What wears me out is that it was just as bad or worse than the season ending loss last year when our entire team had packed its bags and called it a season. We've got to turn this thing around. We're supposed to be making progress.
I'm a big Fisher fan, but I think he might have earned his walking papers today. I didn't see much fire from the Titans. We can't have this kind of season again. I know we still lack some in the talent and experience department, but goot lawd, there's no excuse for getting beat by 30 points in the NFL.
This team needs to be competitive week in and week out. I'm not saying we need to win, just be competitive. Is that too much? We've been totally blown out 3 times already this year and the schedule don't get much better.
GoTitans3801 11-05-2006, 05:46 PM Amen, BR. The difference between then and now? The team didn't quit today, they were playing, they just got killed. Actually, I think the score was more lopsided than the game, but that's what happens with 3 INTS.
If I had to put this game on any position group, I'd put it on the WRs. All of them had at least one drop. We need them to step up and help vince, not contribute to his low Passer rating. Those passes not being caught puts more pressure on Vince, which leads to bad throws and INTS. That makes the difference.
It certainly shouldn't be put all on one person, the secondary should be ashamed of itself. But if I had to call it, that's my call.
Our team is very young, won a big game for us last week, and we just aren't used to coming back the next week and playing hard.. plus the jags are bigger and better than we are right now..
LazyManJackson 11-05-2006, 05:48 PM yea, that didnt help any, the dropped balls are what killed us tho
you can't put all the blame on em, erm.........it was raining...
bigtitan53279 11-05-2006, 05:53 PM both teams play in the same weather. the jags had three drops, but they're good enough to overcome them. we had at least 5 drops and are not good enough to overcome them.
I don't know how you put that loss on the coaching staff. Players failed to make plays. VY was brutal. The offensive line got no push for the running game in the first half when it was needed. Recievers dropped at least five passes. The defensive front got little pressure on Gerrard, and in turn, he picked apart the secondary. We got gashed for big running plays. And special teams dug several holes for us. In short, it was a total anihilation.
To the coaching staff's credit ... they stuck with Young ... kept an offense in place that blew off the scoreboard and tried to make him efficient. He just couldn't get it done. Not surprising for a rookie. But really disappointing since he was so completely overmatched.
Its just one game in a rebuilding season. Just wish it had been a game.
Banshee2 11-05-2006, 06:02 PM Rashaun Mathis killed us today. Without him (and the other guy who got his 1st career int), we only got beat 24-7. That's much better.:suspect: :grrhee:
bigtitan53279 11-05-2006, 06:05 PM andre woolfolk over rashean mathis in the 2003 draft looks like a great pick. nice job floyd.
The Oklahoma defense that Rocky Calmus and Andre Woolfolk played on was absolutely dominant. When Floyd took Andre I was thrilled, even knowing that Andre had only one year on the defensive side of the ball at OU.
It didn't work out. Nor did Calmus. Or Meier. Or Nickey.
The team was drafting late, playing for today, let the devil worry about tomorrow. Well, the devil is here ... and eventually ... I think Floyd will have to pay the devil his due.
bigtitan53279 11-05-2006, 06:22 PM i liked the calmus pick, and i still think it was a good pick. he was a good linebacker for us who just coudnt stay healthy. he didnt have injury problems in college, so there was no way of knowing.
as for woolfolk over mathis, i wanted charles tillman over both. wouldnt have been as good as mathis but it wouldnt have been as bad as woolfolk. mathis was just as raw as woofolk was because he had gone from safety to corner his senior year.
The Mrs 11-05-2006, 06:24 PM It was a stinking game and the rain made it worse!
Why isn't Brandon Jones getting more action his way? He's big and strong and fast. When he catches the ball he looks super athletic. He says that he models his game after T.O.'s so let's give him a chance!
PhiSlammaJamma 11-05-2006, 06:31 PM You give us 31 points and we win this thing. It wasn't all that bad.

i guess he really does play like TO
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 11-05-2006, 06:44 PM How about Vince Young saving 4 pts with his tackle. That's bad when that's the biggest play your qb had.
i love these stinkin' titans.
i don't know about you but my *** is sore after that one.
Broken Record 11-05-2006, 06:50 PM I blame the coaches because this team looked neither prepared nor motivated to play today. Coaching is more than just play calling.

Gunny 11-05-2006, 07:19 PM Oh yay I cannot wait for the Giants and Colts games.
RollTide 11-05-2006, 07:55 PM If i said that exact same thing gunny would be having a cow about how i'm a fair weather fan.
His idea of being a real fan is calling fisher the best coach in league history and calling peyton manning a homo. I would expect as much from an 8 year old.. Not an adult..

Vince really has some speed. I think we should convert him to WR, just like the Jags did with Matt. I am only half kidding......

Well, I try not to name call posters, but I probably do sometimes. Regardless, I stand behind my comments. The coaches need to light a fire under some butts and that didn't happen today.
If I owned this team I wouldn't stand for any more performances like what I saw today. The motto for the rest of the season needs to be "no more excuses." This losing attitude has to go.

how is life as a drop kick?
Well since we are on the subject, quote me when I have said Fisher is the best coach in league history?
And quote me when I have called Manning a homo.
Oh gee, you can't do it and guess what you won't respond to this thread. Real shocker there when confronted you run like a pansy.
Back under the bridge troll.
RollTide 11-05-2006, 08:47 PM I agree with everything you have said. This is a poorly coached team. The jags had some injured players and had lost three games. They were hardly unbeatable and ranked only 20th on offense. Against us they look like a super team.
Gunny 11-05-2006, 08:49 PM undefeated at home

Yep, there was no excuse for the outcome today. I'm sick of it.
bigtitan53279 11-05-2006, 09:43 PM undefeated at home
before this game the jags scoring differential was 74-17. they are very tough at home.

Over half of those points came in one game, the blowout against the Jets. The Jags are who we thought they were. If you want to crown them, then crown their ***. :ha:
Gunny 11-05-2006, 09:50 PM 17 points in 3 points is still good defense.
Not hard to win games when the defense holds teams to less then a TD per game.
bigtitan53279 11-05-2006, 09:51 PM Over half of those points came in one game, the blowout against the Jets.
that doesnt change the fact that they're giving up less than a touchdown per game and have two shutouts at home.
Broken Record 11-05-2006, 10:04 PM that doesnt change the fact that they're giving up less than a touchdown per game and have two shutouts at home.
No doubt about that. But they haven't played anyone with a winning record at home either. Also, they lost to the Redskins and the Texans on the road. That's what I would call a beatable team whether we played in Jacksonville, Nashville or Timbuktu.
It's painful to say this, but I'm getting used to watching the Titans getting blown out 5-6 times every season. I don't see any excuses for pathetic losses like the one today. It's a disgrace to the game itself.
Titansfan10 11-05-2006, 10:16 PM bye bye woolfolk
paraconspiracy 11-06-2006, 12:46 AM can someone please explain to me why we would throw the ball 20 times in the first half with a rookie QB... especially when we know their run D is supposed to be down with some key player out?
and yes woolfolk is horrible. youd think he would work twice as hard knowing he's been a bust so far... the guy is not only bad at making plays...which you cant always ask for in a player... but he just looks lost out there... after 3 years in the league you would think he would know where to be so he doesnt get a big play busted on him
Gunny 11-06-2006, 03:27 AM Yeah I don't get it either, wet day and we throw heaps.
Gunny 11-06-2006, 03:43 AM Vince really has some speed. I think we should convert him to WR, just like the Jags did with Matt. I am only half kidding......
and we are fully not listening.
RollTide 11-06-2006, 03:44 AM The jags are the most awesome team ever at home. Better than the 85 bears. The same for the cowboys, colts, jets, dolphins and chargers. They are all too good for any mortal team to beat.
I want to personally thank jeff fisher for his incredible coaching skills because without the great fish we would be 0-8 this year. Fish might be 3-17 against the rest of the league over the last 2 seasons but he is 3-0 against the mighty texans.
Maybe next season we should considering playing a division 2 college schedule.
Gunny 11-06-2006, 04:01 AM been drinking again?
Vigsted 11-06-2006, 06:35 AM can someone please explain to me why we would throw the ball 20 times in the first half with a rookie QB... especially when we know their run D is supposed to be down with some key player out?
Well our runnign game was hitting a brick wall too, so it probably didn't matter much. I did find it odd we came out throwing on the first 3 downs (and going 3 and out as a result).
Soxcat 11-06-2006, 08:18 AM I wasn't really giving us a good chance to win this game but I really thought with their QB situation we could play a decently close game. We absolutely stunk and I can't see how a good college team couldn't have done as well.
VY looked as bad as any QB I have seen at the NFL level. Many of the WR drops were due as much to the poorly thrown balls as much as anything. There were a few that were without excuse but one to Bennett was way behind Bennett. Many of VY's throws were also late and didn't arrive until the WR was in the middle of defenders. His ints were horrendous.
TitanJeff 11-06-2006, 09:05 AM I hope he learns not to stare down a receiver soon.
GoTitans3801 11-06-2006, 09:09 AM I've got to disagree. He had three INTs, which is way too much, but I didn't think any of them were horrible. One was off a tip, not his fault, and the other two were fantastic CB play. None of those three were particularly bad passes. Tight passes, but the WR had the chance to make the play. Should he have thrown them? Probably not. He took a few chances and made some mistakes. He's staring down his WR too much. It's going to happen, and he needs to learn. But I certainly wouldn't say the INTs themselves were terrible throws and all his fault.
That being said, his passing was bad yesterday. The rain clearly effected him and the WRs, and the result was ugly. We should have started with the run, continued with the run, and finished with the run. If nothing else, the clock would have run out sooner and we might have only lost 23 to nothing.
He had three INTs, which is way too much, but I didn't think any of them were horrible. One was off a tip, not his fault, and the other two were fantastic CB play. The first INT was his fault. The tip by Grant should have been Grant's pick, Young threw it straight to him. VY was lucky Grant didn't pick it and unlucky that Mathis did.
The other two picks were his fault too, for telegraphing those passes. It was a simple matter for Mathis and Starks to read VY and jump the routes.
Soxcat 11-06-2006, 10:01 AM Good thing VY still has his confidence (I think):
"My confidence is going to always be high," Young said. "You ain't got to never question it."
TitanJeff 11-06-2006, 01:45 PM Did anyone expect him to say:
"Uh, I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm suited to be a QB in this league. The Texans were one thing. They were like going against Baylor. But these Jags were all over the place. Maybe I should get a few reps at WR."
