View Full Version : Simplify things for Vince. Brian 11-07-2006, 04:23 PM Two reads then look to run......but get your *** down when you do. wplatham 11-07-2006, 06:02 PM No. We're developing a QB for the next decade, and it's better for him to learn to be an NFL QB now rather than later. GoTitans3801 11-07-2006, 06:08 PM You can keep moving things up as he progresses. Forcing him into bad situations doesn't help anyone. I agree with Brian, if they aren't already doing that. LazyManJackson 11-07-2006, 06:30 PM NO! don't force progression on him, I agree with Brian, at the moment, simplyifying things is much better, he needs to do more of what he did in Texas, run and make plays... wplatham 11-07-2006, 06:52 PM OK, so I have been out-voted 3 to 1. I still think he's got to learn to make all of his reads at some point. And there's no time like the present. How many two-read QBs have been successful in the NFL? He's been fine doing this up until Sunday, when he was forced to throw every play. We all knew if it all fell on his shoulders he would make some mistakes. He's a rookie. And I ,for one, am not worried about his confidence. I think he overcomes this game and I think he'll play better this Sunday. I think the way Chow and Fisher have brought him along is fine. The only thing I'd complain about is his lack of tucking and running. He's gotta remember it's ok to make plays with his legs. bongo59 11-07-2006, 07:31 PM VY is doing fine................he needs a few playmakers.............I am more worried about the D bigtitan53279 11-07-2006, 07:40 PM i think people are overreacting to his bad performance a little. i mean, i know no one wants a qb to throw three INTs in one game, but he is a rookie and we knew he would have games like this, most do. http://titansradio.com/lstoneblurb.html TITAN89Fan 11-07-2006, 07:40 PM I read, not too long ago, where someone said how Vince will do fine when this (NFL) game slows down for him. Well that really made me think. Every rookie says something about how fast the game is and I figure that statement made sense. No need at this point to rush the guy. Just let him melt into the game. It will be a fun thing to watch happen. bongo59 11-07-2006, 07:49 PM look at Alex Smith last yr to this yr.................VY likely will be alot better in Dec than he is now................and I fully expect 5 more losses in the next 5 weeks...............but what I am looking for is to see how VY responds when he is totally overmatched................against the Jags he kept on going and learning..................to me 06 was over with the Collins and Volek thing..................I say chalk up 06 get the youngsters advanced on the learning curve for 07........................ Riverman 11-07-2006, 10:20 PM I am perfectly fine with him developing his pocket skills. However, he should tuck and run for the sideline to get some yards in 2nd and 10 situations that he checks down on. It will open up things alot for him. I'd like to see them roll him out occasionally also to keep defenses honest. Gut 11-08-2006, 01:25 AM There are 3 things in play with VY... First, he's our starting QB and as such we need him to help us win games. That means if he needs to limit his reads to 2 guys and run, then let him do that...but teach him HOW and WHEN to slide... Second, we don't want him to run TOO much or he'll get hurt and that would wreck a lot of things...like his... Future (third). Much like McNair and Vick, he'll need time to develop his reading ability both in reading defenses and his progressions within the context of the play. I've seen a lot of good stuff that Chow has given him...especially off of his read play and some of the play-action stuff. Whenever you have a struggling QB, play-action is the best way to get them on track because you usually can negate the read of the LB's who should be a step or more out of position. Of course, this relies on 2 things....a strong running game and a relatively stout D. When you're down 20-0 in a half, that takes you out of that gameplan. I like what's going on with VY. It was one of those learning games for VY...which you'd expect facing a high caliber D. Of course, it'd help if our D could do something! Gut Childress79 12-28-2006, 06:44 PM There are 3 things in play with VY...Gut The boxes of Orden? :ha: Holy crap the rest of the league is doomed! TNThunder 12-28-2006, 10:24 PM The biggest thing Vince is doing now is making downfield reads when running. Now you can see he has more confidence in his arm and is making throws instead of using his legs. That is what I wanted to see. The 3 read progressions in the pocket will come with time. The only thing I fault Chow on right now is putting him into so many 3rd down situations because we ran on the first two. Maybe Chow feels it's better for Vince to be in 3rd and short rather than letting him throw on second down, but it's getting pretty obvious to a lot of teams what we are doing. Puck 12-28-2006, 11:05 PM it's getting pretty obvious to a lot of teams what we are doing. like laying the smackdown on their candy-@zzes :wack: Gunny 12-28-2006, 11:14 PM It is obvious what Atlanta does with Vick, and he just broke 1000 yards. Crash Override 12-28-2006, 11:46 PM Vince just needs to keep playing, and watch film, and he will learn over the years. TNThunder 12-29-2006, 10:35 AM Vick rushing for 1000 yards means nothing. They managed to put up 3 points last week at home. Vince is already a better QB. Gunny 12-29-2006, 10:43 AM The point is that it is obvious what they do with Vick and they can't stop him running. PhiSlammaJamma 12-29-2006, 10:45 AM I think the 2 read offense is perfect. We read and react. It's really perfect football. If they defend the pass, we run. If the receiver is open we pass. It's so simple. I love it. Most teams are hoping to guess the right play against the right defense. It's a crap shoot before the play. But with our offense, it's a simple decision tree during the play. You take what the defense gives you as the play develops. No guessing. I love our offense right now, and I think a third and fourth read are a bit much anyway. I think Montana used to say you almost never get that far in your progression anyway. At that point you dump it off or go. Gut 01-03-2007, 12:29 AM Vick rushing for 1000 yards means nothing. They managed to put up 3 points last week at home. Vince is already a better QB. Weren't you just bashing Vince in another thread saying he was 'exposed???????????' Do you think he's an excellent young franchise QB or not? Gut TNThunder 01-03-2007, 10:00 AM Weren't you just bashing Vince in another thread saying he was 'exposed???????????' Do you think he's an excellent young franchise QB or not? Gut You are too emotional. If you read my responses in that thread you would see that I am hardly "bashing" him. I also responded to the prospects of him being our future QB. Go back and read. |
