You ever watch the Wallabies down there in Australia Gunny? Gunny 12-29-2006, 10:59 PM Yeah at times. Not all that into Rugby. Crash Override 12-29-2006, 11:00 PM Soccer and rugby both suck. Thank god they are not big here in the states. BigRed3 12-29-2006, 11:01 PM I happen to like Rugby... but I can understand why people hate it if they don't understand the game. Gunny 12-29-2006, 11:03 PM People are like that down here with American Football. LazyManJackson 12-29-2006, 11:24 PM Man, the debates you can get with football (american) vs rugby... Carpy 12-30-2006, 10:03 PM Rugby Union is such a soft game. Rugby League is millions of miles better. here are some league hits. Gunny 12-30-2006, 10:21 PM I wouldn't say Union is soft, I prefer to watch League over Union if I had to choose. Yossarian 01-02-2007, 06:18 PM Rugby is cool... but i my bias is towards Soccer... grace, skill and sometimes pain.. not near as much as rugby .. and those pansies in the video are retarded.. english and american soccer is much more brutal with less acting maximus 01-02-2007, 10:38 PM Rugby is cool... but i my bias is towards Soccer... grace, skill and sometimes pain.. not near as much as rugby .. and those pansies in the video are retarded.. english and american soccer is much more brutal with less acting Grace should never be mentioned in the same sentence with any sport except figure skating Yossarian 01-03-2007, 03:09 PM haha.. fair enough.. you ever watched Ronaldinho play the sport.. he's like the Michael Jordan of soccer nowadays.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=WnlMbRrO-u4 Childress79 01-05-2007, 10:31 AM haha.. fair enough.. you ever watched Ronaldinho play the sport.. he's like the Michael Jordan of soccer nowadays.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=WnlMbRrO-u4 I beg to differ THealer. Ronaldinho's skills aren't in question but he rarely shows more than two or three flashes of brilliance in a 90 minute game. Most of the time his skills don't really do anything to actually win a game. As often as he does something worthy of a highlight reel he tries to do too much & loses posession. Michael Jordan single almost handedly went out & won games on a regular basis. Ronaldinho's yet to do that once. Yossarian 01-05-2007, 03:28 PM yeah.. comparing him to M. Jordan was a bit much.. but the man is the face of the sport right now LazyManJackson 01-05-2007, 03:56 PM Ronaldhino is entertaining I'll give him that... Childress79 01-05-2007, 04:42 PM And for his party trick he can chew an apple through a letter box :duckrun: BigRed3 01-05-2007, 11:08 PM For some reason, I just can't get into soccer. I like watching it during the World Cup because there is so much national pride and passion (in countries other than America), but I can never get interested into the sport at any other level, especially the MLS crap that we are putting on in the states. Yossarian 01-06-2007, 03:16 AM yeah.. the MLS is lame right now.. i really only get into it when the WC is on.. or they show a Premiership game TNThunder 01-08-2007, 10:54 AM Rugby Union is such a soft game. It's much more physically demanding with the pack play. It is also where football derived from. Rugby is a thinking mans game, where football is more scripted. It's a fantastic sport, but it doesn't translate well to TV, because you can't appreciate the hits unless you have played the game without pads. They look tame compared to the NFL, so the "wow" factor is diminished. BigRed3 01-08-2007, 11:18 AM A soft game?....lol.......have you ever played Rugby union? There's been many times where I got hit on the rugby field and just felt like laying there for a couple of hours. TNThunder 01-08-2007, 02:05 PM Exactly... you don't have all the equipment to make a cool noise when you get hit, but make no mistake, it hurts like hell. There's been many times where I got hit on the rugby field and just felt like laying there for a couple of hours. We used to have a lot of ex football players from college come out. Most of them lasted about two weeks. Without pads they weren't really thrilled about hitting anyone, or being hit. 45 minute halves and playing both ways was a total shock for them too. LazyManJackson 01-08-2007, 04:06 PM Its in rugby where you'll see 'real tackles', as in wrapping the guy up and taking him down, I love football more, but a lot of the time, its more of a hit than a tackle.. Correct. In rugby, you can't do those shoulder checks, you have to use your arms to make a legal tackle. It's a great game, but not easy to understand for the average spectator. Childress79 01-09-2007, 08:19 AM Rugby Union is such a soft game. Rugby League is millions of miles better. here are some league hits. I wouldn't call Union a soft game but it definately has a lot less appeal with fans the League. League is more exciting to watch & much more physical. I was asked to try out for my local Union club a few years ago & it just didn't interest me at all. Had it been a League club I wouldn't have hesitated to give it a go. They look tame compared to the NFL, so the "wow" factor is diminished. The comparison I was making was to Rugby League - not NFL. I have played a number of seasons of league (fullback or centre) and played Union for a couple of years at school, primarily at fullback. I found the contact in league was much more demanding, and Union frustrated the hell out of me, as it continues to do. Michi40 01-11-2007, 05:44 PM What are the main differences between league and union? PaCmAn 4 MvP32 01-11-2007, 05:46 PM What are the main differences between league and union? Hey Michi how are you? LazyManJackson 01-11-2007, 05:57 PM What are the main differences between league and union? 13 players for each team in league, 15 for union, there's no scrums in league, you basically have six chances to attempt to score in league, if your tackled a 6th time, you change over, so that the other team attacks your try area, therefore, the game goes at a much faster tempo... LazyManJackson 01-15-2007, 01:47 PM This is an awesome highlight vid, my favorite youtube rugby vid... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz0_An6RH5k This is a cringe-worthy tackle by Brian Lima... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K92xhRPcSGs |
