View Full Version : i-phone PhiSlammaJamma 01-11-2007, 05:03 AM looks pretty impressive, especially the music selection video. May have to get one in June. http://www.apple.com/iphone/ Childress79 01-11-2007, 12:22 PM It wasn't very bright of Apple to name it the iphone when another company already had the rights to that name. Starkiller 01-11-2007, 01:05 PM they'll work something out. The phone itself looks amazing, but I can't see myself getting one anytime soon... GoTitans3801 01-11-2007, 01:28 PM Phones are evolving too fast right now, I wouldn't want to get one of the cutting edge ones just because things are moving so fast. It's amazing how they're all coming together though. bigtitan53279 01-14-2007, 02:23 PM Phones are evolving too fast right now, I wouldn't want to get one of the cutting edge ones just because things are moving so fast. It's amazing how they're all coming together though. yeah, in four or five months the iphone will be icrap compared to something else. Starkiller 01-14-2007, 03:34 PM That's why I still have one of those handcrank phones where I just ask the operator to connect me to who I want to talk to. The technology changes so fast, there's no point in ever getting anything better... :ha: avvie 01-14-2007, 04:45 PM http://www.radio108.com/forum/screen9.html Boy, they don't fool around.... :ha: Starkiller 01-14-2007, 04:52 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzyTZScg7o0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGXwtkXOjZw "Flaccid with rage!" :ha: avvie 01-14-2007, 06:26 PM Nice!! The Gloat 01-17-2007, 01:14 PM These phones are getting silly. Maybe I'm confused, but I use my phone for calling people. Did they leave that feature in this phone or substitute it with exclusive movie trailers, and a 20 time-zone clock with free live feed of Mars' surface? Gunny 01-17-2007, 06:45 PM These phones are getting silly. Maybe I'm confused, but I use my phone for calling people. Did they leave that feature in this phone or substitute it with exclusive movie trailers, and a 20 time-zone clock with free live feed of Mars' surface? I like a mobile phone/walkie talkie/sms/mms/calculator/spell checker/games/tv/dvd/ignition to car/dial-a-nuke/fridge. I mean what would Jack Bauer do without it? At least (with the exception of Casino Royale) the Bonds movies are suddenly more realistic. GoTitans3801 01-24-2007, 04:11 PM Funny side note. In 2001, my best friend and I had an argument about this. I told him phones would be able to play music and take pictures soon, he said it was at least ten years away. I said it would be here in five or a little less. The early ones hit five years on the dot. Gunny 01-24-2007, 08:46 PM The good thing about technology advancing so quickly is that a device like an iPhone will be like $5000 to purchase but in two years time when something more advanced comes out you will get an iPhone for ALOT cheaper and it isn't all that different. Same goes for stuff like TVs, DVDs, Projectors etc. Yossarian 01-25-2007, 12:07 AM even with the iphone we are WAY behind the japanese... go to cnn page and type iphone.. the video titled.. iphone so yesterday craziness... phone, music, tv, credit card, virtual briefcase LT21Titans27 01-26-2007, 09:40 PM even with the iphone we are WAY behind the japanese... go to cnn page and type iphone.. the video titled.. iphone so yesterday craziness... phone, music, tv, credit card, virtual briefcase I got the feeling, if America is ever on the brink of getting pwned by Japs or Chinese, we might have to nuke'em, bc were so far behind, so actually, wed wipe out the technology we didnt already have, and hopefully develop it ourselves as for phones, I have the EnV, from Verizon, its my baby avvie 01-28-2007, 12:54 PM This iPhone is a clever scheme...since it runs on Mac OS, it introduces Windows users to the system...I'm sure that Apple is counting on a percentage of users to jump platforms. The Mac Mini was supposed to do that also...worked on me! Puck 01-28-2007, 01:05 PM could you ever go back ? PhiSlammaJamma 01-28-2007, 01:16 PM ipod got me to use itunes, eventually. They are gaining ground. And they are gaining ground where they are skilled. Ultimately, they could win. When you think on an evolutionary level, the only reason humans even evolved was because they wanted to adorn their caves with art, which led to intelligence, and apple is all about art. They are the visual. They ultimately have control if microsoft doesn't adapt. Tools will only take you so far. Art and beauty will always win. avvie 01-29-2007, 12:59 AM could you ever go back ? Hell no. However, I have some inside info. Apple makes awesome products, but they are vicious brutes to work for. And I may be dealing with that soon as a Mac tech. avvie 01-29-2007, 01:00 AM ipod got me to use itunes, eventually. They are gaining ground. And they are gaining ground where they are skilled. Ultimately, they could win. They're now the foruth largest music retailer, and that's HUGE. Starkiller 01-29-2007, 01:26 AM could you ever go back ? Once you go Mac you never go back... Starkiller 01-29-2007, 01:29 AM Apple is winning because of simplicity. They were the first to make it easy to use an mp3 player. They were the first to make it east to sync the player to your music library on a computer. And they were the first to make it easy to buy music online (legally). If tech companies can't make the experience easy, consumers won't buy into it... And that's what they want to do with the smart phone. Gunny 01-29-2007, 04:27 AM Once you go Mac you never go back... Until it becomes TOO popular and the viruses start coming. Starkiller 01-29-2007, 09:53 AM It's not about popularity. There are millions of Macs out there and virtually no viruses (the ones out there are weak). It's about better security... Gunny 01-29-2007, 05:57 PM It's not about popularity. There are millions of Macs out there and virtually no viruses (the ones out there are weak). It's about better security... what would the ratio be between Macs and PCs? Starkiller 01-30-2007, 12:45 AM Probably about 20-to-1 in terms of actual computers. But it's about 1000-to-1 in terms of viruses. Worse if you are also looking at spyware/adware... Mac OS X is simply more secure that Windows. And this is coming from a guy who spends his days fixing people's computers for a living. Now, Vista will be more secure than XP, but the question will be how much (and at what cost)... Gunny 01-30-2007, 02:41 AM Now, Vista will be more secure than XP, but the question will be how much (and at what cost)... I'll tell you soon, my old man is going out to get it soon. I don't see how the viruses is so much though, I don't get any. (and recently switched from Norton to Avast) Starkiller 01-30-2007, 10:46 AM Viruses are a huge problem (in Windows, anyway). Of course, so is Norton Antivirus so it's better off you dumped it. Personally, I've told all my clients to hold off on Vista. No need to rush out and get a brand new Microsoft OS that's sure to have bugs. Wait a while for things to get patched. Personally, I fear I'll have to go out and buy it. Also, if you do buy it, never buy the retail version. You can get the full OEM version (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070130-8730.html) online for half the price. LT21Titans27 01-30-2007, 01:53 PM I have a Dell Dimension e310 i got it last yr for xmas, it has windows XP and runs like Norton 05, i have no viruses, never had any problems either, and i plan on getting the new Norton later this year, i think that as long as youre not using your computer for the wrong reasons, you dont have to worry Starkiller 01-30-2007, 02:21 PM Never waste your money on Norton. Just download a good free antivirus app like AVG. Not only is is just as good at spotting viruses, but it won't slow your computer down as much (and is free). avvie 01-30-2007, 11:59 PM I remember when Norton was supposedly the shizznit. Boy, has their popularity crashed hard! Childress79 01-31-2007, 08:10 AM Never waste your money on Norton. Just download a good free antivirus app like AVG. Not only is is just as good at spotting viruses, but it won't slow your computer down as much (and is free). Norton sucks. I had the odd virus using Norton Internet Security Suite & although they were detected, the suite often couldn't remove them. That's no help to the average noob who buys a PC off the shelf. I switched to Zone Alarm Security Suite after reading reviews on it,I would recommend it to anyone. On it's 1st scan it picked up & fixed a couple of trojans that Norton didn't even detect. IMO if you run XP & don't want to get viruses; browse with Firefox, avoid searching for porn & stay away from filesharing programmes like torrents. Gunny 01-31-2007, 08:46 AM Well I do two out of three. But I have had no issues with Torrents (or limewire) Starkiller 02-01-2007, 07:11 PM Not to be outdone by Apple (again), MS is apparently working on a Zune Phone... Gunny 02-01-2007, 07:13 PM Didn't know Microsoft made phones. They should make a Bill Gates talking head phone. avvie 02-01-2007, 11:57 PM avoid searching for porn There's porn on the Net? Like, nekkid pictures of girls? Starkiller 02-02-2007, 09:32 AM I think that's just a rumor... :ha: Gunny 02-02-2007, 09:36 AM ask Childress he'd know. He's married. :ha: Childress79 02-02-2007, 10:15 AM http://www.jokeoftheday.com/pictures/-13677000_Marriage.jpg Starkiller 02-02-2007, 10:41 AM :ha: Childress79 02-02-2007, 12:51 PM ask Childress he'd know. He's married. :ha: She's only Mrs Childress in here,we're living in sin.:grrhee: I have offered to marry her at LP Field, only because I knew she'd not be happy with that but she can no longer say I haven't asked her....the second word of her reply was off. VolnTitan 08-10-2007, 10:35 AM That's Nuckin' Futs! In all seriousness, I love the iPhone. I thought I would never be one of those "PDA" type people, but I love using it. Gunny 08-10-2007, 10:37 AM I wonder when we will get the iPhone? We just started getting those Blackberries. bigtitan53279 08-10-2007, 11:21 AM i dont even have an mp3 player yet, im still stuck with my disc-man. it's going to be a long time before i get one of these fancy phones. and believe it or not, im not an old geaser :)) VolnTitan 08-10-2007, 11:22 AM You must be an ol' coot then ;) TitanJeff 08-10-2007, 05:01 PM :tj: Puck 08-10-2007, 05:08 PM everyone should wait til the 2nd gen units that will be 3G compatible that's "one" one of the big stinks surrounding the phone avvie 08-12-2007, 10:04 PM I got me one Nokia 5300, and downloaded Opera mini to it. BOOM! It's an iPhone! rcarie 08-18-2007, 12:04 PM everyone should wait til the 2nd gen units that will be 3G compatible that's "one" one of the big stinks surrounding the phone That's exactly right. You'd be a fool to buy this version cause you'll be pissed when the new one comes out. It will work off of the 3G system and the internet will be lightning speeds better than the Edge that it currently works off of. This makes a huge difference considering the phone has to have internet to work properly. There are other things to that I could mention too but it would take a while.... Just wait till the next one comes out before you spend $600 on a phone, trust me.
