David Beckham will reportedly leave Real Madrid and sign with the MLS Los Angeles Galaxy. So the question is... will you watch the MLS?
GoTitans3801 01-11-2007, 01:31 PM I watch a game on occassion, and this will probably pick up a little interest. It's a great thing for US soccer, which needs more attention. I hope we see an increase in quality for the next few world cups.
BigRed3 01-11-2007, 01:50 PM A lot of people will say that it doesn't change anything because Beckham is an over the hill star. But in the 70's when Pele was acquired, despite being "past his prime", he actually energized the sport in America... too bad it didn't last.
PhiSlammaJamma 01-11-2007, 09:41 PM I am a DC united Fan. The league still has some star power with Adu and Beckham.
Carpy 01-11-2007, 11:22 PM They recruited the wrong position if they want a star. Beckham won't score a lot of goals and won't even touch the ball a lot. He has only ever been effective when he plays wie on the right and has a strong stiker or two for him to feed. The money would have been better spent getting an "over the hill" star like Ronaldo who uneducated fans could still associate with his ability to score goals.
In a good team, Beckham is an excellent cog. In a bad team his skill is wasted.
LazyManJackson 01-12-2007, 11:25 AM Ronaldo's fat and useless now...
£128 million is huge, he says he wants to make the sport more popular, as the U.S are the only country which haven't got into the whole rest of the ''world'' thing...
PhiSlammaJamma 01-12-2007, 11:47 AM Ronaldo is the all time leading scorer in the world cup. I don't know why he is not considered as such. It's not like Maradonna wasn't fat either. Ronaldo should be a soccer god. Where is all the hate coming from. He also contibuted to Brazil in the last world cup by scoring a few goals. He has 15 or so world cup goals and no equal. I don't get it. Especially when Ronaldhino had only one assist in the world cup, but is hailed as the greatest soccer player in the world. Makes no sense to me. Ronaldo should get more love.

If not, at least he and Posh Spice will be in People Magazine every week
bigtitan53279 01-13-2007, 02:09 PM soccer....that's when they kick the ball, right? :))
Big TT 01-14-2007, 06:04 AM No I shall not watch communist football.:grrhee:
VolnTitan 01-16-2007, 06:38 PM It won't change the popularity of the sport on the professional level at all.

...we all know that...we all know he's in it for the money and for him to pursue his modelling career with posh...:suspect:
PhiSlammaJamma 01-19-2007, 06:06 AM He will draw. Americans won't come to see him, but the International's will. He just won't be worth that kind of money, and he won't change the sport here. The only way to do that would be to have six or seven of these type players, who go head to head. The league needs rivalry. They need nighlights. They need drama. IF our teams get into these world events, like they do in july, with houston and dc, that will help. Americans love that. But these games need to be promoted. I doubt anyone even knows that our champions are about to take on the world.

He probably thinks he will become a Hollywood star... of course anyone having seen and heard an interview with him knows that will never happen :ha:
Michi40 01-20-2007, 08:32 PM Well, ronaldo is for sale too, if someone wants him... and offers more than Milan
LazyManJackson 01-21-2007, 07:45 AM Like I said, Ronaldo has eaten too many pukka pies, he's useless unless you need money from advertising and merchandise sales, in that case, he's more than welcome...
I wonder if those GMs, team owners, etc. have so much money that sometimes they don't know what to do with it. Or maybe they do know what to do with it but they just make the wrong choices. What do you guys think?
I mean, do they wake up one day and say "damn, I'm so loaded, lets just alleviate some weight by overpaying a washed up football player"?
