I like the new feature, about how you can't throw a high ball to a guy whos great at jumping but not catching, cos he's gonna get clobbered...

It will definitely seperate the great recievers from the good, unlike previous versions...hopefully...

i like the mid air collisions. it seems like the only time there were any mid-air collisions in the previous versions was at the one yard line.

and God forbid someone tries to tackle the runningback while he's hurdling.

Hey, mabye they will fix the freezing problem that occurs in franchise mode when you are looking through the weekly newspaper stories. It's annoying to play a weeks worth of games and then have to save it after simulating a few only because you fear losing everything when the game locks up in the storyline central. Once, I tested this out and played 3 weeks and had to restart each time due to locking up on newspapers. This has happened with the last 2 or 3 Madden games that I have played. I shouldn't have to put up with that, EA.

He didn't suck. INJURIES ended him, not skills. Hard to be a good receiver when you're rushed back from injury just to become re-injured. He was showing lots of promise and progression. His hands weren't near as much of a problem as people made it out to be. He'd make tough grabs and would occasionally drop the easy ones. Mostly his rookie year.

Gloat, go back and read up on Calico's first two seasons. The guy was inconsistent from day one. He would do something special followed by dropping a four-yard slant.

He showed some flashes of a great receiver. His first year he caught a TD on the first drive against the Raiders in the AFC championship rematch.

1up.com has a new article on Madden. Most of the info has already been discussed, but at the end it mentions new ratings in the game. "New attributes will also be a factor. There's now Ball Carrier Vision, Catch in Traffic, Spectacular Catch, Route Running and Hit Power -- all things that used to be handled by Awareness. This means star players really have a chance to shine, as there will be more distinctions throughout the game."

I'm definately glad to see new reciever ratings, because so few factors would

I can't find the one he made in practice. He caught a long pass behind his back with one hand. But he actually just snagged it. Dre Bly was covering and he had no clue what had happened. Roy just snagged it without even looking at it, then ran for the TD.

It looks exactly like 2007, just with a different interface and maybe slightly better graphics. The AI and physics are still very questionable (notice the DB trying to catch a ball that will never get past the receiver? Classic EA)

Whatever man the game play is definitely looking way better.. my only beefs with 07 was the way the players ran , looked , and the ability to not use any defensive playmakers.

Gameplay for me wasn't all that bad although not being able to intercept the ball like in past games was a little bad and the bs sideline catches that would always get called a catch even if only 1 foot was in.

08 looks to have fixed every single problem I just mentioned and added a whole buch of diffrent things. The ability to break out of a tackle at any time , mid air collisions , sweet endzone and sidelines catches , the weapons system....

I can say... this is the first time ive been excited for Madden since 2005.

All these new features are old features. They had player intros before, now they just have a screen that flashes over them and tells their name. Most people skip these anyway, so it's a waste of time.

One handed catches (not as extreme) were in NCAA as well. Not really a new feature.
The graphics are exactly the same.
There's STILL no Madden or Al Michaels commentating to make it feel like a real game. We get this crappy radio announcer who is extremely boring. By now the commentary should be so packed that it never stops just like a real game, but instead there's a lot of dead-time with this radio guy. Just moments of silence everywhere.

It's frustrating. Maybe 2k will push EA to actually try next year.

But if there's one thing I have no confidence in EA with, it's gameplay. It usually seems like they focus less on it than anything else. I'd be happy if they brought back Create-team mode, but instead they'll probably give us more clips of Hall of Fame players for some odd reason.

Even if they do that every play, it's no worse than opposing fans cheering for you when you score a TD in madden. Or your qb holding on to the ball before the defender even touches him.
Many people prefer the last version of 2k football released over current madden's. That says a lot. I'm going to try both and get which seems better. I just hope EA brings a lot more than what they're showing us, because so far it's a lot of the same ol' stuff.

The thing I hate most of all is in next gen Madden it is impossible to return a punt for a TD. Well not impossible but the coverage is insanely good. That needs to be fixed

I'll more than likely buy both and just play whichever suits me more the most. Because I still want to play with current players, and madden achievements are usually pretty easy, so I'll take those.
I hope they change the 'create player' stats thing or at least make that 40 yard dash a lot easier. I think the fastest I ever ran in it was a 4.48 with a 98 speed player haha.

After reading the 2k preview at operation sports many will be let down to know that 2k will not have a franchise mode.

APF will have online leagues though and I expect the game to be primarily an online game. That is perfect for me as I far more enjoyed playing 2k5 online anyway. APF should get a nice cult type of following.

You will draft your team and play a 16 game season. When that season is finished, you can start a new season with the same team or draft another.

A lot of the amazing 2k presentation has also been stripped out of the game as well as there is a shorter half time show and things of that nature. The presentation will be more on the line of EA's first next gen Madden, but with a short half time show.

But where the game shines per the writer is on the field. He clearly stated that if 2k was a licensed NFL game it would be his game of choice as the on the field game play is simply excellent. He really gushed about how well the game plays.

The controls are identical to 2K5 and APF is more of a 2K5 revival for its fans. If this game has decent sales, 2k will bid for the NFL license again. They do not expect it to sell anything near what 2K5 did for obvious reasons.

APF will not be an annual title per 2k, but if there is interest in it, they may make it a every other year type of game.

APF will not be able to compete with Madden in terms of features. It won't even be close. It seems that the opposite could be said though for the *on the field* game play.

2K fans will be happy to play 2k again, but disappointed at the lack of features and the biggest gripe besides the lack of a NFL license is the price tag of $59.99 considering its lack of features. 2K could have a big hit on their hands if they could bring the price down to $39 or $49 imo. But it seems that all third party next gen games will have a $59 price tag.

I personally cannot wait for both games as each will offer me something different.

Madden will give me that deep franchise experience with the NFL license, but when I have an hour to kill and I just want to play a game of football against someone, that is where APF will shine for me. I love the fact that I will be able to create my *own* team of legends and play with it online. I am also a sucker for 2K's game play.

If you are a fan of 2k or not, I hope that people support them in this venture as when EA's exclusive NFL license expires in a few years, it would be great for there to be multiple NFL titles.

My fear though is that 2k will not be able to keep going the next few years with their football game and may have to tank it all together.

Competition is a great thing for us consumers, lets hope it comes back in the future.

It was a 5 year agreement I believe and this is Madden's 3rd version with the exclusive license, so 2 more years until it runs out.

3 more seasons until we could possibly see another NFL game besides Madden.

Peyton Manning (QB Colts), Champ Bailey (CB Broncos), Walter Jones (OT Seahawks), LaDainian Tomlinson (RB Chargers), Steve Smith (WR Panthers), Brian Urlacher (LB Bears), Steve Hutchinson (OG Vikings), Ed Reed (S Ravens), Troy Polamalu (S Steelers)

The only player in that group that stands out as questionable is probably Polamalu.

urlacher stands out to me, and maybe even Smith......i know he is a difference maker every time he is on the field, but giving him a 99 rating is going to make Delhomme and the Panthers look WAYYY to good in that game.

Haha, reggie seems like a cool guy. He acts just like he did in that Fantasy draft commercial. That Madden looked pretty good though. Not much different, but the players do definitely look better.

the gang tackles look fantastic.

I don't really get the gang tackling issue. The "4 man tackle" was a 2 man tackle, and that seems to be the only form of 'gang' tackling the game has. It's usually weird looking too where one player grabs, and the other just runs up and bounces off the offensive player as they both collapse.
If they were going to stress gang tackling, they should have made it to where you can drag the pile. Actually have 2-3 guys hanging off a player, etc. You know, like real gang tackles. I saw that video a while back and couldn't help but laugh at the '4 man tackle' as only 2 guys tackled and it seemed like they just both did a dive tackle, which can be seen in ncaa 2007.

By the way Teddy is absolutely sick and the reason his overall rating looks low its not its just because they probably have his awareness at like 50 just like Vince last year. Every rookies awareness sucks which makes there overall rating go down. I can probably tell you Ginn will be the funnest player to use in 08. yes. it's fun, but going from the ps2 controls to the ps3 controls were a little frustrating the first day or so.
