You can't pick up a back pass...

I thought you could now? I swear I seen it happen, unless it is different rules for international games?

There are some low level leagues where you can pick it up, but in most leagues, you cannot, not even in recreational soccer.

It was just a bad break. What can you do. The hard part about soccer is when you screw up on Defense, you lose. One mistake and it's over. That is what is so painful.

The soccer match was a friendly, doesn't count, ashes series was screwed because our players got drunk, and we were missing key players who were injured or had ''problems'', and who cares about League World Cup, last one was held in 2000...

The ball jumped his toe. And even if he could pick it up, he probably wasn't thinking about that. It was a basic pass back, and he was just going to casually pass it back up field when the ball hit something and hopped over his toe.
