these movies can be Home DVD titles or movies currently in theaters

include a smiley if you wish
if you liked it, try a :thumb:
if you didn't , try a :shake:
scary ? try :scared:
funny ? try :ha:
etc,......

thanks for watching

My wife and I watched this movie
we had intended for our 6 year old daughter to watch it with us, we're glad she didn't. There's very little inclusion of the fantastic fantasy realm the trailers lure you with.

WARNING : this is not a good movie for young kids
it is very slow to get going
and just as it starts to get engaging, it crushes you with sadness
my wife was so upset she almost thre the remote at my TV

My Suggestion : :shake:

I wish I had read some reviews first before I watched this
It had promise, but it ended up being a HUGE disappointment
this movie would have scarred my child for years

look at these reviews on Amazon
I searched the lowest rating first reviews and mostly agreed
a good conclusion is the reveiw titled "Things I learned From This Movie"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B00005JPL5/ref=cm_rev_sort/102-3839680-9543349?customer-reviews.sort_by=%2BOverallRating&x=11&y=9&s=dvd

Recommendation :  :ha:

watched this on Blu-Ray a few days ago
watched it twice
loved the pace
loved the little quirks
did not like his ringtone
Dwight Yoakham was great
Jason Statham was great
editing was great
concept was great
it was a little over-the-top at times, but that may be one of it's strengths as opposed to one of its faults

My Recommendation : :geek: :eh?: :thumb:
when watched : a month ago

this movie reminded me of Memento in ways
Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz play varied / mutliple roles and they both played them well

It was weird at times
Spectacular at others
and every once in awhile it just loses you
but, this movie is Art

it' not for everyone, but if you like a little esoteric substance in your entertainment ,then you'd probably get into

Good thread idea, and just what I need since I just started the Blockbuster Total Access dealie. Taribithia is on my list....I think I'll still give it a go anyway. Gotta cure my curiosity I guess.

Here's a few I've rented lately.

Night at the Museum = good
I guess I'd call this movie "cute". It's a good for all ages comedy. I thought the idea behind the movie was neat, and they pulled it off pretty well. Maybe not something I'd buy on dvd, but a good one night stand.

Hannibal Rising = very good
I didn't think the movie about the story of Hannibal Lecture would be like this. Different than I thought, and better than I'd guessed it'd be....and of course, disturbing. If you liked Silence of the Lambs, I think you'll find this one a winner.

Ghost Rider = so so
I like Nic Cage and Sam Elliot, and even though I didn't know much of Ghost Rider, I thought it could be a good story. Well, it was a bit of a let down, though this type of movie often can be. Some of the characters and/or acting just sucked, and lots of the action did too. Some of the story was just lame. Maybe worth one watch if you're bored and there's nothing else on.

When watched : Just finished it

My Recommendation : :scared: :eh?:

well ....... it has some pretty cool moments .... but apparently, it's nothing really new by horror film standards.
I don't really watch alot of horror films, because I find them a bit cheesy
and this one isn't all that much different
I found it a bit predictable ,especially scriptwise, which at times was pretty darn lousy

we loved the first half, but by the second half I was almost calling the shots before they happened

if your horror tastes lie with Saw and the Grudge or the Ring, then this might not do much for you .... if you rarely view horror flicks, then you might enjoy it ...while it lasts

I like the Pang Brothers approach to film making
they have a flair for visual composition
this could have been a much better film, if noone spoke

FINAL WORD : I didn't find it as bad as Rotten Tomatoes thought

haven't seen it
(actually hadn't heard of it)
lots of fanfare
lots of people saying it's their favorite or in top 5 of all time
if that's the case, shouldn't i have heard of it ?
it's "widest release" was a mere 1300 screens ... maybe that's why

I'll look into it

Night at the Theater? Is that Night at the Museum or something I haven't heard of.

Hannibal Rising- eh.. OK maybe. Still prefer Lambs or both versions of Red Dragon to this..

Ghost Rider- SUCK with a capitol S. Shameless Hollywood fodder. This movie was a total piece of crapola ripoff. I want my money back right now.

"...IN A STEEL CAGE!!!..."

i'm not sure what the big problem is
saying " thanks for trying to derail the thread" is in no means an attack
nothing near what the accuser and his assistant have done in recent past

if he doesn't like the content of the thread or has no desire to post thread related comments, then why post at all ?

the people participating in the thread want to see comments and ideas relating to the subject matter, not trivial banter

I apologize to Kami for starting a similar thread
before starting this thread, I did a search in the forums for "Movie" and there were no matches on the first run of responses; therefore, I began this thread

if Gunny and DC have issues with me, that's their problem - they should voice their transgressions in PM's .... not threads

I have no desire to engage in pissing contests with any members
I'm very easy to get along with
I think I come up with some good ideas for discussion

I welcome any and all comments and I'm appreciative to members who contribute to the betterment of the forum, but members who insist on mudslinging and passing judgement on other members and their opinions is just wrong .... I'm surprised moderators tolerate it to the extent that they do

Thank You .... Have a Nice Day

TJ, I'd totally support the movie forum idea, maybe one for books too, since those threads come up relatively often... pretty simple actually
here's the process (for certain browsers anyway)
I'm using Safari, which will soon be available for PC's
http://www.apple.com/safari/

anyway, when you see the pic you want to post in the thread, RIGHT CLICK - copy image address - on the GoAdvanced reply, you'll see an icon that looks like a picture of a mountain = that is Insert Image - click that, when the box pops-up = paste the address in

voila

or you can just go to google images, type in the movie like this

[movie title] cover, then right click, properties, where it says address URL, copy that, then go to gotitans.com, in your text box, paste it there, with on the front of it, and at the end of it.....

so it should look something like this....

I liked Underworld as a "guilty pleasure" flick.. You gotta admit though that vampires and werewolves battling it out with machineguns is simply preposterous...
Fair enough that you liked it, but Evolution to me was a total turdlet. Any redeeming value of the first one was lost here - though neither were as utterly stupid as Van Helsing (shame on Universal for selling out their entire legendary horror franchise in one movie)

Take away Keanu's pathetic acting as Johnathan Harker and Bram Stoker's Dracula was infinitely better than the Underworld franchise. Gary Oldman was outstanding and the story is obviously the real deal. Coppola is a pretty OK director y'know..

The best vampire movie of recent times is Interview With the Vampire hands down. I'll still take Lugosi or Chris Lee oldies as all time bests..

Why are you always so negative? Every thread you don't personally agree with you have some snide remark for the people interested in the thread.

I like Jack Black, but I just didn't find this all that funny
it had more of an inspiration feel to it, and not much of one

I say : overhyped

Yeah it was a little disapointing. Had it's moments though.

I liked both Underworlds, but thought the 2nd didn't live up to the 1st one.

Speaking of Vampires, I gotta rewatch Interview With a Vampire again. Been years.

The Wanderers.. Cool late 70's cult flick. Gotta love when all the gangs get together to fight The Ducky Boys. They just don't make em like this anymore..

http://thisdistractedglobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/Warriors.jpg
The Wanderers made me wanna pull out the perfect double-feature companion The Warriors. Everyone's seen this right? Crazy Midnight-Movie gang action - I've seen this no less than 50 times. CAN YOU DIG IT!

I really like The Descent becuase it's a rare current horror flick that delivers the scary goods. Great claustrophobic tension, believable story, freaky-as-heck cave dwellers, all-female cast is unique for horror.. Warning: It's not a CGI-fest. If you need your horror totally fake don't rent this one..

Cool Hand Luke:

Zodiac:
I already read the Graysmith book about 5 times and knew the story inside and out but the movie was still pretty nice. 2 big thumbs up - unless of course you can't sit thru a movie that doesn't have Matrix-style fighting and 20 tons of CGI explosions..

Cheech and Chong's Next Movie:
Good, fun, stupid, dopehead humor. So many famous lines in this movie.. "I got burning baby all over me"... Pee Wee Herman getting beat up by an Amazon woman.. I likes it.

Predictions in general.

I was being sarcastic, I learned after the 3rd or 4th end of world prediction nobody can predict anything and it is just scaremongering at best.

Examples -

All the planets aligning = end of world.
Y2K = end of world.
2001 = end of world because Earth didn't begin at year naught so 2000 was a mistake, of course the massive flaw in that is the fact Earth began a lot longer than 2000 years ago.

I've only seen that date once
it's actually the 21st, I predict the 'beginning' starts the 12th (12/12/12)

-- According to the calendar, the start of the Great Cycle begins ( day 0.0.0.0.0) on 11th August 3114 BC, and the end-date (known as 13.0.0.0.0.) as 21st December 2012 --
^ looking at that, if you formatted your timebase as DD/MM, the date would read as 2112

Puck
08-04-2007, 11:16 AM
Part of the 2012 mystique stems from the stars. On the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years. This means that "whatever energy typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will indeed be disrupted on 12/21/12 at 11:11 p.m. Universal Time," Joseph writes.

But scholars doubt the ancient Maya extrapolated great meaning from anticipating the alignment — if they were even aware of what the configuration would be.

Astronomers generally agree that "it would be impossible the Maya themselves would have known that,"

here's what happens .....

The Earth spins on an axis. Like everything else that spins, it wobbles. That wobble is technically called precession, and it explains why Earthlings have seen the sun rise against different constellations over the centuries.

Each "wobble" (or precessional cycle) lasts 25,800 years. Researchers believe that the current precessional cycle will end in the year 2012. This date is known as the "End-Date" in Maya calendrics. At that time, the Earth will begin a new cycle in the opposite direction.

Ultimately It's a cartoon with real actors instead of illustrations- like Sin City.. It's not trying to be anything but that so it's hard to compare it to stuff like Troy and Gladiator

Apart from the 2nd movie the Bourne films don't really have anything in common with the books other than Bourne's quest to find out who he is & what/who is treadstone.

His back story was much more invloved than simply treadstone & the biggest character in the books was the terrorist known as Carlos the Jackal. Bourne's story revolved around him in Indentity & Ultimatum.

While the I love the books the fact that the movies aren't true to them doesn't take anything away from them for me. They're true to Bourne as a character & are some of the best intelligent action movies ever made.

I also think that the Prestige is a better movie than the book. They differ slightly but the movie has a more satisfying ending.

Gunny
08-10-2007, 06:53 AM
I didn't think the 2nd book has anything relating to the movie...especially since Marie dies in the movie. There's also no reference to Medusa either.

The books were good though.

But I don't claim the movies and books based off one another, just a very basic background on Bourne and Webb and thats all.

Normally books are better than movies when they try and base it pretty much on the same storyline. Bourne never did that.

Childress79

Oh I'm definitely with you on that one. There's so much that you can put into a book that can't be fleshed out in a two hour movie.

The Da Vinci Code is a great example. They tried to cram a lot of it into Tom Hanks narrative. It doesn't work, the movie feels rushed. It did good numbers at the box office because of the hype surrounding the book even though it was crap.

Good enough to green light the prequel Angels & Demons which again I can't see being any good for the same reasons.

I didn't think the DVC was that great of a book in general. It was ok but the hype was bigger than the book. I did enjoy looking up the works of DaVinci to see Brown's implications rang true. It was interesting stuff but the churches indignation at Brown's plot felt like a bit of crying over spilt milk. Made him a lot of money though.

I enjoyed Angels & Demons more but I can't see the movie having the supernatural ending that the book had.

Gunny
08-10-2007, 07:47 AM
Da Vinci is definitely over-rated as a book. Movie was ok.

Angels and Demons was good, I also liked his other one, Digital Fortress.

I didn't know Angels and Demons was going to be a movie. Is Tom Hanks playing Langdon again?

something tells me that this could have been done in 30 minutes shorter of time with a lot more DaVinci and alot less code
I honestly can't figure out why there was so much emphasis on the flashbacks of the "Princess" and such little emphasis on the details of MM and what/why the HG had to do with it all

good book
mediocre movie

Too true. I think the guy is marginally talented as an actor; not bad, but not fantastic. He does however have a great eye for quality scripts. He still makes some big budget cheese to facilitate his making of films such as Syriana, but I think when all is said and done Clooney will have left behind a really impressive body of work.

This flick was a total turd. If you need twenty minutes to explain the twist in a horror flick, you're watchin a dud.
Best part was getting to hear She Wants Revenge's excellent tune "Tear You Apart" during the sex parts...

Disturbia If you've seen Fright Night you've seen this, minus the vampires.. Actually had some fun tension and cool atmosphere but it was the same ol same ol beyond that...

It is a dark and sometimes brutal fairy tale for adults

Tarantino's half of 'Grindhouse'.

Great movie.

A film of two halves. The 1st hour is typical Tarantino, soundtrack driven scenes built around clever dialog. A little long winded & it doesn't really fire on all cylinders.

2nd half rocks & really shifts it into overdrive in a good way. The movie finishes with a punch or rather an ax kick.Very satisfying ending, even the soundtrack closes out with it's best tune.

I thought Death Proof was too self-indulgent with the dialogue for an action movie. If Tarantino loves Vanishing Point so much he should take note from it's pacing. Cut an hour of pointless blather out of DP and you have a pretty fun movie..

I just watched this on the spur of the moment when I saw it listed… The Science of Sleep seemed like an interesting title (I’m a big fan of sleeping).

I had no idea this film starred Gael Garcia Bernal (Amores Perros, The Motorcycle Diaries, Babel etc), he’s one of those guys that I’ve yet to see in a bad film. As the credits continued to roll I see the film is directed by Michael Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind… and those crazy Bjork videos); so I know I’m in for a wild ride.

Funny, whimsical, original and heart felt are all apt descriptions of this cool little flick. This is a French production so much of the film is in subtitles, but three languages are spoken, Spanish, French and English. Bernal is the only actor I really recognized, but everyone gives great, fully developed performances (female lead Charlotte Gainsbourg was also in the film 21 Grams but I don’t remember her).

Unlike “Eternal Sunshine”, where he was interpreting Charlie Kaufman’s words, here Gondry has penned the script. It’s a wonderfully goofy and intricate storyline realized beautifully on screen by its own author.

If you like off-beat comedies I can’t recommend indi gem this enough.

Superman Returns could have been better in many ways
like using someone other than Kate Bosworth as Louis
maybe writing a script would help too
and somehow making it somewhat believable what Superman is doing

i thought the TV airings that said he was all over the world saving people was a bad move, it'd be more believable if his focus was just Metropolis

and the whole little shaving off a crystal makes an entire city blackout while simultaneously interfering with a shuttle launch off a jet scenario was just ridiculous ... especially since Luther wasn't aware that was happening iirc

Oh c'mon!! That's ridiculous! This modern one was crap, but gene hackman's absurdly campy and impotent Lex Luthor was just downright silly. Calling himself the greatest criminal mastermind in the world over and over ad nauseum....a fat bald guy to boot! He delivered the line as if he was thinking "I can't believe these dopes are actually paying me for this!".

But the biggest problem with Superman movies is....Superman. He has more power, strength and ability than any other superhero, but he can't vanquish a plain old bald human who's greatest supervillianous power is being greedy? On that alone, he couldn't even carry Spidey's or batman's jockstrap.

Oh, and poor Clark has girl trouble...GET OVER IT YOU WUSS! :irked: Guess who gets more poon: Superman or Tom Brady? I'll bet half of this forum scores more than Superman does. Sorry, but I got no time for a "superhero" who can pick up a train, a building, or an entire island made of kryptonite, but can't pick up a little action even if he showed up in the women's prison courtyard with a trunkload of governor's pardons.

hopefully someone, someday will come along and do for Superman what was done for Batman and Spiderman ..... or maybe the whole Superman concept is to cheesy to save

Batman and Spiderman are probably more identifiable to the average joe, they are just humans with many weaknesses. Not Aliens with one weakness.

Makes for better storylines.

I thought that Superman Returns was a decent film. It certainly was not perfect, but I like the attempt it made. I thought that all the actors were pretty good. Including Superman. And the theme was decent, as he was fighting the one thing he couldn't control, time and change. So I liked the attempt at bringing the emotional element to it.

I also heard the Superman actor said that he'd be willing to make a movie with both he and batman. And I thought that would be interesting as Christian Bale's latest version of Batman and this Superman would be an interesting combination should it happen. He made it sound as if they were in discussion phase.

I thought it would have been interesting too if they had introduced aquaman in this series when Superman was drowining. Just resurface him and swim away when the girl gets there. Too bad. That could have been a cool moment.

IMO the way hollywood thinks that they have to dumb a story down each time they reinvent it is a major handicap. Batman was a great redux & Raimi has by & large done an excellent job on Spiderman.

Superman is a bigger storyline than Lois Lane & Lex Luthor. The Death of Superman storyline would make for a kick@ss 3 film story arc but no they have to churn out the same old crud.:grrhee: (no offense CC).

I agree, when superman died. They should have ended it with the newspaper headline right there. Good ending. Done deal.

what does this mean ?
except for there's a broad range of movies I can no longer stand to watch ?

Without adjectives..
You tend to boast alot of newer Hollywood releases. I'm saying Hackman has been quite a few movies over the years that I personally prefer over that stuff.
Just to name a few..
The Unforgiven
Mississippi Burning
Hoosiers
The Conversation
French Connection
Young Frankenstein
No Way Out
etc..

And for Avvie.. Yeah I'm on board with what you're saying about the Superman flicks.. I prefer the earlier one but wouldn't bother buying any of them...

:eh?: i have no idea what you're talking about
I've posted on a few Hollywood movies - yes, but I wouldn't say I boast on them ... I think Hollywood ruins good movie ideas ..... but I'm not going to go watch a whole mess of Gene Hackman re-runs because of it

ok,.......a nice list of movies I can't watch because Hackman's in them
don't forget Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Behind Enemy Lines
can't do it

It just goes to show you how diverse tastes are. I love Hackman, anything he's in I'm almost guaranteed to enjoy. Even if the movie blows I'll love Mean Gene's performance (I can't think of a single exception to that... I'm sure there has to be, I just can't think of one).

I was going to start rhyming off my fave Hackman performances, but I realized I'd probably just end up listing virtually every film he's been in. I'll cite Get Shorty because it hasn't been mentioned and he's just so damn funny in it.

Hackman is good. But he isn't a draw for me.

just to clarify, I don't think Hackman is a bad actor
it's his pompous presentation that rubs me wrong
much like David Caruso does on CSI-Miami

That you have point there.

I do like Horatio though I can no longer take the opening sequences seriously.

Hackman is class but his abrasive sometimes over the top style doesn't always suit the role he's playing.

The Number 23 - Well I thought it was better than most, who seem to hate it. It leaves questions about the plot, but I guess I was just able to overlook them for the most part. I may have been suckered in by Jim Carrey, who's always a good actor. The dog has an acting future.

Fight Club - Interesting movie, only saw it for the first time today. I liked it, don't see many bad Brad Pitt movies, nor with Edward Norton.
One of those movies you might have to watch again to fully get it.

I saw The Brave One last night. It was much better than it's title.

I've always liked Jody Foster, and she did her usual stellar job of looking anxious, scared and/or determined.

She smoked a lot in this film. That was strange for me. I quit last April.

No oscar-winner here, and still in the Flightplan/Panic Room genre.
