Creeping-Cruds 07-28-2007, 12:50 AM Of the classics I love Carlin the best.. I really really liked Mitch Hedberg and was very sad when he died. The funniest recent stand-up I've seen has to be hands-down Louis CK (who is in town this weekend).. Creeping-Cruds 07-28-2007, 12:51 AM I know everyone loves him, but Dayne Cook just annoys me. He's the opposite of funny... KamikaZ 07-28-2007, 01:02 AM Dane Cook is pretty damn corny. Definition of stupid frat humor right there. Dane Cook PhiSlammaJamma 07-28-2007, 11:30 PM I'll take Eddie Murphy. BigRed3 07-28-2007, 11:37 PM I like a lot of different comedians. Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Jim Gaffigan, Mitch Hedberg, Katt Williams, Louis CK. The Kevin James: Sweat the Small Stuff special on Comedy Central a few years ago was probably the funniest special i've ever seen. I don't think that i've ever laughed that hard. Basically if they're funny, I probably like them (which immediately eliminates Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook.) BigRed3 07-29-2007, 12:02 AM 2 words, 1 name, 8 letters.... I love that Jim Gaffigan bit about Hot Pockets. There is definitely a division between those here who like Dane Cook and those who don't. I watched the entire season of Dane Cook's Tourgasm and I swear I did not laugh one time. The guys loves himself that's for sure.. Crash Override 07-29-2007, 04:34 AM dane cook funny too, i like his stand ups. avvie 07-29-2007, 06:21 AM Jim Gaffigan is alright...I got to hear a LOT of him a couple of weeks ago when he came to Maui...local independent radio was wearing him out. He had a few lines that cracked me up....does a lot of food humor....but his "whispering lady show critic" bit gets old quickly. I still don't know who that's supposed to be...someone actually in the audience? His mother, maybe? Oh, yeah...faves: Hedberg, Bill Hicks, Chris Rock. And I don't care ONE BIT for "blue-collar" comedians...redneck just isn't funny to me at all. BigRed3 07-29-2007, 09:47 AM but his "whispering lady show critic" bit gets old quickly. I still don't know who that's supposed to be...someone actually in the audience? His mother, maybe? I think it's supposed to be what a fan in the audience is thinking. Very true. To just a casual fan of stand up, Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia are the most prominent comedians going right now. They get the most exposure on television. But there are TONS of great comedians if you scratch the surface. But since most people don't do that, you get people like Cook and Mencia that get pushed to the forefront, even though neither are really that funny (despite the fact that both have been accused of stealing jokes, you would think they would be decent comedians if they're stealing other people's material). bigtitan53279 07-29-2007, 11:22 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPBvFXf9Q2U bigtitan53279 07-29-2007, 11:24 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_tWeFFPKGs Creeping-Cruds 07-30-2007, 01:03 AM Very true. Dane is much easier to take in movies than onstage for me anyway. Obviously, if it makes you laugh don't deny yourself - there's folks like me who almost lost a lung laughing so hard watching Borat then there's folks that walked out of the theater saying it wasn't even comedy at all... No accounting for taste.. BigRed3 07-30-2007, 01:16 AM Dane is much easier to take in movies than onstage for me anyway. Obviously, if it makes you laugh don't deny yourself - there's folks like me who almost lost a lung laughing so hard watching Borat then there's folks that walked out of the theater saying it wasn't even comedy at all... No accounting for taste.. That's true, everyone has their own tastes. I'm not really familiar with Dane's film career. He had a small role in the movie Waiting... as a cook, and he was kind of funny I guess, probably because he was kept to a minimum. If the entire movie was just two hours of his character, that movie would have been terrible. I watched the Insomniac Tour on Comedy Central a few weeks ago, and didn't think he was that funny at all. His Vicious Circle special on HBO wasn't all that funny to me. The only thing that i've seen of Dane Cook that I thought was pretty funny was his Comedy Central Presents special, and that was before he became overexposed and his schtick became stale. JMB54 07-30-2007, 11:09 AM Robin Williams is the best, but all the others named rank up there close. GoTitans3801 07-30-2007, 11:57 AM I thought Dane Cook was funny when people didn't know about him. His newer stuff isn't nearly as good. Like BigRed, I thought his original comedy central standup special was great. There are a lot of very funny, lesser known comics today. Anyone in Nashville ever go to Zanies? I've seen a bunch of people there. Sadly, knoxville doesn't have a comedy club, so I have to go without during the school year. Pablo Francisco, Stephen Lynch, Mitch Hedburg, Lewis Black, Gary Gulman, I've seen them all in person, and they're a lot of fun. TitanJeff 07-30-2007, 12:08 PM I once saw Jay Leno at Zanies. Been a while ago... GoTitans3801 07-30-2007, 12:38 PM I bet. I met a rep from Zanies earlier this summer, and bought some "supersaver" passes from him. Don't get me wrong there are some I like (George Carlin, Robin Williams, Cheech and Chong (Santa Claus story is one of my favorites), etc,etc Never like Eddie Murphy after he left SNL, seems quite a few folks from SNL didn't have the careers they thought they would after they left..some did though Just think about the number of comedians that got their start on SNL or Fridays (anyone remember that show) Broken Record 07-30-2007, 05:06 PM Tommy Chong will actually be in town for a show in the next couple of months. Chappelle, Murphy, Carlin, Lewis Black, Louis CK, Mitch Hedberg are all great ones. I'll add Charlie Murphy (who I saw at Zanie's) and Ron White as two comedians I really enjoy. Ron White is by far my favorite in the blue-collar group. Robin Williams live on broadway was amazing and I've watched it several times. Oh and Dane Cook sucks, and that's coming from a frat boy. Horrible, but a lot of people seem to like him. I don't know why. titanbuoy 08-13-2007, 08:57 AM I emailed a buddy the Zach Galifianakis/Kanye West video that I posted here in the "Funny Things You Find of The Web" thread. He sent this one back. Zach's sense of humor is so twisted I doubt he'll ever find the level of success that a mainstream hack like Cook has, but as long as he can pay the bills I doubt he's too worried about it.
