Starkiller 08-02-2007, 01:51 PM A new iPod is also possible, but the new iMac seems certain that day.
it's odd timing considering Leopard isn't ready
I always thought that they'd release when the new OS did
I'm going to make sure that if I get one now, I'll be upgraded when Leopard comes out ...... or maybe I'll just wait
but I'm getting one for sure, I'm giving this on to the kid
Starkiller 08-02-2007, 04:07 PM It's out now because schools start in about a month. That's a big block of their sales.
The MacBook might be in line for an upgrade too since it's also a consumer-lever Mac, but I haven't heard anything about it.
didn't Apple just come out with new books last year ?
little early for a retrofit isn't it ?
btw .... a real coup for Apple would be for them to get the iMac under the $1k price point ... and not sure if they're doing it still but they were offering free iPod's to student purchasers
wait a sec

too bad it's been years since I went to college
Starkiller 08-02-2007, 05:16 PM didn't Apple just come out with new books last year ?

I was thinking more of an upgrade than a completely new version.

They do have an education iMac for $899 (the $999 iMac with an education discount).
^yeah , I meant the new ones
instead of the usual $1499 - $1999 deal
avvie 08-03-2007, 01:38 AM Bummer...I'll be stuck with this one (17" 2005 G5) for quite some time. Not that it's a problem or anything...
^ why's that avvie ?
you always seem like a trendsetter to me
me ? I'd like this to be in line with the release of leopard
and closer to my birthday in mid November would be sweet
but if some of the things I've read are true ..... I'm in there like swimwear !
what I've read :
It'll hold up to 4GB of ram, 2 hard drives, and 2 optical drives. The video card, hard drive, ram, and optical drives will be easily user-upgradeable. The standard video card across all models (except for the low end), will be the GeForce 8600GT
some form of BluRay (writer please)
and an Aiport Extreme N (internal)
dreamy
TitanJeff 08-03-2007, 12:27 PM This has totally screwed around with me.
I ordered three 20" iMacs for the college nearly three weeks ago. I was told a one-week turnaround. I have to load software on them and have them ready as they are used by the instructors once class begins Aug 16.
Since I didn't have them in the alloted time, I contacted Apple and my rep says he can't say the Aug 7 thing is about the iMac but, if it is, it could keep my shipment from going out for another two weeks or more. This is assuming that I get the new one for the same price as the one I ordered.
Of course, Apple is apologizing for the delay but I can't be the only one in education needing to have iMacs up and running by mid-August. For a company as buttoned up as Apple usually is, this is poor timing to roll out a new product.

Ha! Not hardly. I let the pioneers take all the arrows. I'm usually at least 5 years behind the cutting edge....which doesn't seem like very long any more. The last iMac was the exception.
But in this case, my life has been through some drastic changes in the last year or so, and not all of them good, so I won't be in the market for new tech for a long time. I think.
Also, I have to remember to be honest with myself: Do I need an upgrade? No.
Do I use what I have already? No.
Can I justify the expense in any way? No.
This has totally screwed around with me.

true .. so very true
and considering it's TAX_FREE week here in TN, it's been nice to have gotten them in last week.
but, in hindsight, I wasn't expecting to see any new iMacs until October when Leopard is released .... to me that's the time to do it
look at the bright side .... this may only be an announcement - not a ship
I can see Jobs "announcing" that new iMacs are close to mass productions
-that iLife '08 is finally gold master (which it is)
-hey, maybe they got Leopard done early
bigtitan53279 08-03-2007, 01:37 PM A new iPod is also possible,
yeah, it's about time they released a crappy ipod that happens to be smaller, only to release a new one after that a month before christmas.
from what I've seen and read there is a new iPod Nano Video (it's actuallly called something else) and a redesign of the iPodVideo that loses about 3 inches off the bottom of it's "gut"
which leaves it with hardly anything but the screen and the circle
and there's rumore that it's this thing - FULL TOUCH SCREEN iPod !!

VolnTitan 08-03-2007, 03:00 PM Now the pictures you showed are just speculation on the iMacs, correct? Nothing official has been released....
I like those keys. If they are Mac Pro compatible I may have to get em...
those are production keyboards. they should work with anything
it's hard to tell, but those keyboards are as thin as a standard usb plug

TitanJeff 08-07-2007, 03:47 PM I already bought a 20-inch one three weeks ago. But, as you know, they didn't have anything to ship so I assume my name is on three of the new ones.
And class starts... uh... next Thursday. :whoop:
Any word if they are ready to ship the new iMacs?
 they are
:beer2: ..... hoping you get 3 of the new ones
too bad they didn't get this thing out last week .....
when we gcould have saved ourselves $200 - $300 in tax
TitanJeff 08-07-2007, 05:36 PM Hold up. Just because they are selling them doesn't mean they're ready to ship them. Remember, I bought three iMacs a few weeks ago and they didn't tell me anything about them being unavailable. Actually, it said, as these do, that it would ship in 3-5 days.
^ I see what you're saying
but it could also have been because they new they were about to roll out the new models and might save themselves the ire of customers by backlogging there orders and shipping them the shiny new one
btw..... if you needed these by a specific date, wouldn't CompUsa or MacAuthority have done the trick ? (sorry to pry)

We get educational discounts and have an account directly with Apple. :brow:
well then ...
it seems you might have got yourself into somewhat of a pickle ......
good luck with that :thumb:

Indeed. And lesson learned.

well, you really didn't have any idea that these new iMacs were coming ... did you ?
TitanJeff 08-07-2007, 10:58 PM well, you really didn't have any idea that these new iMacs were coming ... did you ?
Nope. But next time, I will ask when I order "are they currently in stock?" though I don't know if they would tell me if they weren't.

absolutely amazing to cram that much stuff into that little space
avvie 08-12-2007, 10:08 PM Wow! Are the speakers actually facing FORWARD??? Another Apple first!!
inVINCEable2007 09-10-2007, 04:44 PM wow that computer looks soo nice
Wow! Are the speakers actually facing FORWARD??? Another Apple first!!
not really
the eMac speakers faced foward .... and they were tinny and uselss
speaking of these iMac speakers, I'm confused how a forward facing speaker does ANY good when it's covered up by the body shell
Starkiller 09-10-2007, 09:49 PM They aren't facing down like the old iMacs?
http://gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/08/DSC_3871.JPG
looking at this it appears that they are indeed facing forward as Avvie has pointed out .... however, looking at the gallery at apple.com/imac, there are grillsets right below the speakers
irregardless ..... I listen to the stock speakers for about 5 seconds before hooking up my Altec's
Starkiller 09-11-2007, 01:00 AM Maybe the front is somehow bass or something? But I know the speakers have faced down since they first went with this form factor, at least prior to this new version.
avvie 09-13-2007, 02:36 AM True, the speakers are irrelevant, unless you're the type who doesn't mind a simple clock radio for background music. Sometimes that's me.
But the big news for people who use these speakers (http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=86) is that Logic Pro and Logic Express have been updated, and they're packed with goodies, and THEY ARE ACTUALLY BARGAIN PRICED!! Logic Pro is half it's usual price, and Express has dropped by $100.
so in case someone misses Maximus' thread, OSX Leopard ships October 26th - then would be the time to pounce on one of these bad boys
