View Full Version : THE WIRE final season
Creeping-Cruds 11-05-2007, 11:07 PM Just read that the final season of The Wire, HBO's last great drama is scheduled to start in Jan 08. Any fans here? Really really good show that never jumped the shark. I will miss it when it's done..

KamikaZ 11-05-2007, 11:09 PM Best TV drama ever produced IMO. Sad to see it go, but we as viewers are blessed that HBO has allowed it to flourish as it has, despite low ratings but tremendously positive reviews by critics.
Creeping-Cruds 11-05-2007, 11:17 PM Kamikaze, did you also watch The Corner? I read that the real life Omar Little just married the real life Fran, mother of Deandre from The Corner. Wild stuff...
KamikaZ 11-06-2007, 01:39 AM No, but I read the book that inspired the series.
BigRed3 11-06-2007, 07:51 AM Are you kidding me? The wire is done? I was just starting to get into that show too.

Creeping-Cruds 11-07-2007, 02:43 PM kaZ, thanks for posting that.. I can't wait but dread the end at the same time.
If you get a chance, rent The Corner. It kinda sets up The Wire and follows some desperate street characters - feels alot like the Bubs segments...

saw the season premiere last Sunday, the new one comes on tonight
it was good...real good
KamikaZ 01-13-2008, 03:32 PM I've seen episodes 1 & 2, looks promising. The show is a slow burner, and a slow starter; I've read and heard the show is the antithesis of The Sopranos, and will leave with a bang.
Creeping-Cruds 01-13-2008, 08:22 PM Saw episode 1 last week as well as the special feature freebies on Comcast On-Demand. Loved the whole bit about the copy machine..
Looking forward to Episode 2 tonight!
Creeping-Cruds 01-14-2008, 03:28 PM Any predictions on who makes it and who doesn't?
Here's mine..
Bubbles: dies
Omar: lives
Michael: lives
Dookie: dies
Marlow: lives
Chris: dies
Snoop: dies
Prop Joe: lives
Cheese: dies
KamikaZ 01-15-2008, 10:58 AM Mike: Lives
Dookie: Lives
Omar: Lives
Prop Joe: Dies
Marlo: Lives (Prison)
Chris: Dies
Snoop: Dies
Bubbles: Dies
Slim Charles: Lives
Cheese: Lives
McNulty: Jail
Seen up to Episode 3. Wow, all I will say is people in Marlo's crew are gonna get murked...early. Can't do stuff like that to provoke a man like Omar.
KamikaZ 01-15-2008, 01:56 PM HBO On Demand last night, and it's on the Internet now.
what was it?
Mr. Huntley ? (or whatever)
KamikaZ 01-21-2008, 02:23 PM After seeing Episode 4, already one of my predicted casualties has come to pass. I can already tell there will be no Sopranos ending. This series will not go you with a shot of black, but by the shot of a saw-off shotgun.
VolnTitan 01-21-2008, 02:30 PM I just started renting and "archiving" this series. Never seen it but hear nothing but good things. Look forward to watching 5 seasons worth!
KamikaZ 01-23-2008, 02:45 PM I was at my cousins house last night, up in DC. We were shooting the breeze and we got to talking about The Wire, and how he apparently has the bootleg. I was skeptical, so I asked to see the beginning's of episodes 8-10 (since only 1-7 are around the net). They're all there, so I asked a few vague questions, enough to quench my fiend-like tendencies.
The finale is apparently HUGE (approx. 90 minutes, give or take some). He said that if you wanted shocking, explosive endings, you shall have your wish, and that although not everything is wrapped up in a bow, everything is done extremely well.
Now, I didn't ask too much, because like many of you, I want to wait and watch the Season in order, without major spoilers. If you don't want even an inkling of what goes down, then don't read below.
Do not ask me about specifics, past what I say, because I literally know nothing else but what has been asked.
*INFO THAT MAY LEAD TO SPECULATIVE SPOILERS*
I've been told is that Slim Charles has a major part in "the craziest turn in the season, maybe the series", that there is more to Avon's appearance in the first episode than meets the eye, and that Marlo's agreement with the Greeks there is more than meets the eye. Don't ask me for specifics, this is just what has been told to me by friends in know, who didn't want to outright spoil the final episodes. I didn't ask about the deaths, but either Mike or Dookie will kick it, because my friend said Namond and Bunny come back to make a cameo at a funeral. McNulty and/or Freamon might be losing more than their jobs by the finale. Marlo's ending might not be what most expect, or necissarily want, but it's apparently very fulfilling.
Creeping-Cruds 01-23-2008, 04:06 PM I've been told is that Slim Charles has a major part in "the craziest turn in the season, maybe the series",
Can't think of anything that could happen crazier than the Stringer Bell demise that played out over parts of 3 seasons.. Must be sumthin BIG!
I wanna see it all and I don't wanna see at the same time if that makes any sense.. I always hoped Bodie would survive the series and you know how that played out..
KamikaZ 01-23-2008, 06:03 PM If you've seen Episode 4, you'll understand better why Slim Charles would want to do something to...well, let's just allow it to unfold.
Creeping-Cruds 01-23-2008, 08:41 PM If you've seen Episode 4, you'll understand better why Slim Charles would want to do something to...well, let's just allow it to unfold.
I know Ep 4 is on OnDemand already but for some reason I still prefer to catch it when it airs.. I'll be roughin it for few days...
yeah, something's weird
I can watch the episodes OnDemand 'before' it airs
wtf is that all about ?
KamikaZ 01-23-2008, 10:59 PM Everything before the final three episodes will be shown one week early OnDemand. This was done last year for the entire season too.
see....that would have helped when you were saying you'd already seen epsiode 4 (for example) in week 3 ........
glad I looked though .... I had just watched one and went to ON to see if the new one was up so I could get the followup
Creeping-Cruds 01-30-2008, 12:41 PM I'm glad they gave the opening theme music to Steve Earl this year for his contributions to the show over the years..
My fav version has to be Season 2 Tom Waits (the original) and the Blind Boys of Alabama version from seaon 1...
KamikaZ 01-31-2008, 11:07 AM Yeah my favorite is season 2 as well, just cause Tom Waits is who he is. Then The Blind Boys Of Alabama. Then I guess the Nevile Brothers. The new guy (the man who plays Walon does it) and the ones from Season 4 are tied for worst.
KamikaZ 02-01-2008, 02:16 PM I have the bootleg in my hands, and it looks legit. The 93 minutes season finale is apparently EXPLOSIVE...
Creeping-Cruds 02-04-2008, 09:52 PM Omar goes over balcony! I was so hoping he'd plug at least one of those guys on the way out.. It's getting thick!
Creeping-Cruds 02-08-2008, 11:31 AM Thought this was funny...

Creeping-Cruds 02-25-2008, 02:07 PM Omar, Omar... what was you thinkin man?? What out for the shorties...
KamikaZ 02-25-2008, 04:07 PM Won't reveal anything, but Episode 59 (Untitled) is one of the most powerful single episodes of the season. I never shed a tear for any art, but there are two scenes in particular, if you've followed since day one, will really hit you hard.
The season finale in 2 weeks is 93 minutes long, and looks like a MONSTER.
Episode 59 is titled Late Editions
watching it right now
KamikaZ 02-25-2008, 06:38 PM "How's my hair look man?"
Hardest line ever in context...
"you look good girl"
wow
smart kid
Creeping-Cruds 03-02-2008, 10:10 PM I can't believe there is but one episode left.. What happened to a full 12 episode season?
Nonetheless, The Wire will have gone off as a largely unrecognized show that delivered every single season. I will miss it.
HBO has officially run out of good dramas.
KamikaZ 03-04-2008, 06:35 PM I have the Series Finale right now on my hard-drive. Quality is fantastic, with the HBO watermark. WinRAR required for unpacking. PM me if you want to get high early.

Most definitely appreciate the kind offer but it just wouldn't be right to break my Sunday night tradition at this point. Cheers to The Wire..
KamikaZ 03-04-2008, 09:33 PM I'll just say, that while many expected the series to go out with a bang and some violence, it most definitely did not for the most part, and Simon only telegraphed a few punches so to speak. But I couldn't have asked for a better wrap up of my favorite television series ever; the word of the day is "satisfying", and that's what I hoped for.
Enjoy this Sunday, and savor it.
Creeping-Cruds 03-04-2008, 10:53 PM Word.. I most definitely will.
Just read that Chris Baur, who played Frank Sobatka is in the cast of the new HBO vampire series True Blood as well as William Sanderson (EB Farnum from Deadwood). Maybe I won't cancel my subscription just yet,,
KamikaZ 03-04-2008, 11:04 PM I won't be canceling mine just for Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Flight of the Conchords. But their dramas aren't looking promising. Chris Baur is a great actor though.
Creeping-Cruds 03-05-2008, 12:38 AM Yeah I like all three of those shows (although Curb jumped the shark with that last season).. And for the dramas at least we have the DVDs..
KamikaZ 03-05-2008, 10:55 AM I'm going to get into Oz next I think, even though everyone tells me that I've been spoiled on The Wire and will be laughing out-loud while I watch it.
Creeping-Cruds 03-05-2008, 10:26 PM I'm going to get into Oz next I think, even though everyone tells me that I've been spoiled on The Wire and will be laughing out-loud while I watch it.
That's actually pretty funny that they say that.. Keeping in mind that Oz was the first of all those dramatic hour long HBO series, there are times when things are so over-the-top that it is laughable. Still though I loved that show. You'll see plenty of faces from The Wire (Bodie, Daniels, Herc, Carver, Rawls off the top of my head).. Oz has some great characters and you never know who's gonna buy it from week to week - but there's one name to remember: Simon Adebisi.. how does he keep that hat on the side of his head??
Enjoy...
Creeping-Cruds 03-12-2008, 11:28 PM I've let a coupla days sink in since the passing of The Wire. While I think they did an outstanding job with the episode itself I still feel sad that we'll see these characters again.. The usual season ending song deal where they show a little bit of the present and future for each of the characters was especially well-done this year.
My only regret is that I wish Bodie could have survived the series..
Where's Wallace...
KamikaZ 03-13-2008, 10:35 AM I bought the first four seasons of Oz for 40 bucks new, and it's enjoyable so far. I miss the writing and scope of The Wire though.
Happy my boy Slim Charles made out like a champ, I knew from Season 4 on he would become the major player by the end.

It get's quite a bit better after Season 1.. The Schillinger/Beecher thing steps it up quite a bit. Characters become more defined etc.
did ya'll watch any Deadwood ?
i'm a little disappointed that it's not available OnDemand
and only 5 freaking ep's of Oz
:irked:

I LOVED Deadwood... My favorite show period.
I'm such a stupid fan I went all the freakin way to Deadwood and met the stars of the show when they had a special HBO event.
Damn HBO for canceling the show halfway in.

onetontitan 03-13-2008, 10:48 PM nothing beats the sopranos
Creeping-Cruds 03-14-2008, 10:16 AM nothing beats the sopranos
If by nothing you mean a few things...
Show went 2 seasons too long and lost its way along the way.
KamikaZ 03-14-2008, 03:16 PM Wire > Deadwood > Oz > Sopranos
you're now going to have to slip John Adams in there somewhere
and speaking of Oz
I've been rolling through OnDmnd with it lately
I've noticed some of The Wire's actors in it that make their acting skills look more like B-rate soap operas compared to The Wire
this whole damn show actually has the feel of a soap opera ..... a very twistd, incarcerated, homosexual soap opera

It is a bit of a soap opera.. It's completely preposterous but you can't look away. The irony being a good amount of Wire stars are also on Oz..
What season are u on?
whatever's currently running OnDemand (Nashville Comcast)
Oz 31
Season Four
A Town without Pity
Buster Poindexters last episode
KamikaZ 03-19-2008, 06:39 PM Oz is great. The melodrama is high, and some of the acting is horrible (the guy who plays Carver on The Wire had some terrible moments), but it's enjoyable. It's better than the Sopranos, because while The Wire and Oz have episodes that are hit and miss, Sopranos has had entire SEASONS that are miss (Four, Five, and some of Six come to mind).

I would agree with all of that...
Yossarian 03-24-2008, 01:22 AM They should run another series similar to Band of Brothers
I still have trouble getting away from the TV when it's on and I've seen all the episodes numerous times.

The John Adams miniseries is made by the same folks as Band of Brothers. The people behind The Wire are doing an Iraq War docu-series as well called Generation Kill.
http://www.hbo.com/events/generationkill/
They are also the people behind The Corner, which was somewhat of a B-more prequel to The Wire - definitely worth renting if you're a fan..
Yossarian 03-24-2008, 11:37 PM Thanks for the link Cruds..
Yeah I was excited to hear that Hanks was producing the John Adams series, he took great care in telling Easy Company's story. That's the first I've seen about Generation Kill, couldn't tell a whole lot from that trailer, but I don't doubt the quality will be excellent.
ammotroop 03-25-2008, 06:16 PM Well, over here in the STAN we watch Season 1-4 of the wire in a 3 week period. ADDICTING. I havent read much of this post, and I am hoping that the local DVD dealer will have season 5 before I leave. I cant wait to watch it.
I have watched all of OZ. Great show, but I was always in a pissed off mood after I watched it.
I watched season 1 + 2 of Dead wood, good show.
Dont know what to do next. Were contiplating getting into LOST, but who knows.
