Time to step it up you big sensitive oafs.. You confessed the flicks that turn you all blubbery and misty eyed. There's gotta be some songs that do it too.
Fess up...

Anything by Michael Bolton or Celine Dion if I can't turn off the radio or escape the place where it's playing. Realizing I could do jail time by attempting to forcibly & violently stop them playing leaves me feeling helpless & distraught.

When I'm left uncontrollably bawling my eyes out, people mistake me for a hard core fan.:duckrun:

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack

Hurt - Johnny Cash. Nine Inch Nails song but so moving to listen to Cash sing it in his last days, like a footnote to his life.

I have to second that.

It's funny, if you've just been dumped or you're having relationship issues, really sappy songs can get to you, like "All By Myself".

Right now things are OK and I can't think of anything.

But one song that really hit me was "Butterfly Kisses" the first time I heard it. I have a daughter, and I was driving down the road listening to it and started bawling. Tears were rolling off me and I was helplessly sobbing, the people next to me on the highway were looking over and staring. They probably thought I was driving to my mothers deathbed or something.

Slam dunk, Childress.. I hadn't even thought of that one

I'd have to add the song Old Familiar Steam by The Old 97's. Gets me every time..

Brings to mind the "If You Leave Me Know" scene from Shaun of the Dead.
"Oh. You want your favorite monkey? Shall I do Clyde?"

Okay, get this: "What's The Matter Here?" by 10,000 Maniacs. Child abuse is a touchy subject with me.

"Don't Take The Girl" WOULD HAVE gotten a vote, except it was recorded by some redneck dork who sounds like Howdy Effin Doody. :irked: Nobody who sings or talks like that should be allowed out in public. Sounds like my ed cousin, who at age 40 still refers to his father as "ma diddy".

Talking about unfortunate choice of word... Daddy's hands by Holly Dunn always rang a bit strange to me.

And despite the pleasant uptempo melody, Natalie still lets you know that she's angry and disgusted. It's wierd to me that I simply can NOT get through this tune without choking up.
If you don't sit in your chair straight, I'll take this belt from around my waist, and don't you think that I won't use it!"

Right on Avvie, Natalie Merchant is awesome. I like her solo stuff a little more though.

i dont think a song has ever gotten me teary eyed. Just not the same as a movie where you get to know a character.

haha, you had to give a Johnnie Cash song. His voice alone makes me cry. I don't know if I loathe another artist more than him, but it's probably because everyone else loves him and I can't figure out why. He's as boring as could be, no charisma, no presence, and no emotion (well, other than that constant depressed sound he has). Just can't get in to someone talking over a guitar.
Plus, I've heard better lyrics that are sad, but they just dont get to me like movie characters.

I can understand someone not liking Cash, he is a true artist, and true art brings out different emotions in different people. There's no piece of art that everyone in the world loves, there will always be some people who don't get it because of whatever is in their own personal history that prevents them.

Johnny was a great folk singer, spoke for the common American in a time that has since passed. He did not have great vocal range, but if you think he needed it, then you're just not getting him for what he was.

But that's OK, cause I don't get the Ramones...:))

It's Ok, the great stuff isn't for everyone.

Back to Cash. Gloat will probably appreciate him when he gets a little older...
