View Full Version : There Will Be Blood
KamikaZ 01-09-2008, 07:30 PM Wow. What a year for cinema. We have been graced with two masterpieces this year (the other being No Country For Old Men), and this movie is a thing of beauty. This movie is the definition of visceral, pulsating with intensity through-out it. It explores the vices of greed, becoming drunk on the spirit of competition, fury against religion and those who follow it, the nature of using a loved one, only to be abandoned. Heavy, heavy stuff. Not to mention Daniel Day Lewis puts in the performance of a lifetime, creating a character with so many threads of complexity, a jaw-dropping view of a person's descent into...well, go see the movie already!
This movie will haunt you, maybe disturb, but definitely make you think.

SEC 330 BIPOLAR 01-09-2008, 07:51 PM if i see one movie this year i will be sure to see that.
Saw it today. It was amazing to say the least.
Unbelievable how good of an actor Daniel Day-Lewis really is. If he doesn't get an Oscar for this one then there is something wrong.
SEC 330 BIPOLAR 01-25-2008, 06:26 PM That movie is playing in Chattanooga now. I'm going to go! My birthday is Monday so my buddy and his wife and my old lady are gonna go and check it out. I really am looking forward to it.
Riverman 01-28-2008, 09:09 AM I'm stoked- can't wait to see it.
Yossarian 01-28-2008, 11:41 AM You will find few better actors than Daniel Day-Lewis
Deuce Wayne 01-28-2008, 10:52 PM Is this another choppy movie? Where the director tries to be cute and can't just let the story itself carry the film? I heard someone mention it, so before I watch I want to be sure that's not the case.
KamikaZ 01-28-2008, 11:28 PM That's not even remotely the case here. The direction is very linear and simple to follow; there are no tricks here at all really.
Gunny 01-29-2008, 02:49 AM DDL won an award for this didn't he? And he dedicated it to Heath Ledger?
KamikaZ 01-29-2008, 03:13 PM He won the Golden Globe and SAG award for his portrayal of Daniel Plainview. Hopefully he'll get the Oscar as well.
The SAG acceptance speech.

Watch him out of character and then watch "There Will Be Blood" or "Gangs of New York." He completely transforms himself. Makes you appreciate his talents a little more.
Gunny 01-30-2008, 02:40 AM Is DDL an American?
btw I like Viggo Mortensen as an actor.
Childress79 01-30-2008, 03:29 AM DDL is an Englishman.:grrhee:
Gunny 01-30-2008, 03:37 AM No wonder I hate him :brow:
Deuce Wayne 01-30-2008, 09:47 AM He's an actor. Becomes the character. The list is short of actors that do so though. Too many people in hollywood that had a connection.
Creeping-Cruds 01-30-2008, 12:36 PM I have long touted DDL as the man...
Mindblowing performances as Bill the Butcher in Gangs & as John Proctor in The Crucible.
Can't wait to check this one out...
ammotroop 02-09-2008, 07:29 AM Honestly, not sure what to think about this. There was really good acting, but the movie was just a little odd. I dunno, maybe it was the bootleg version I watched, but a little different to say the least.
KamikaZ 02-10-2008, 02:28 AM What was odd about it?
KTOWN TITAN 02-10-2008, 08:28 PM I just saw it yesterday. Great movie. Amazing acting.
VolnTitan 02-10-2008, 08:34 PM Saw it Friday. Daniel Day is very good. As always takes it to the bring of overacting. If he wasn't so damn serious off the screen...
As far as the movie, not sure what I thought about it, and that is why I think it is very good. Still thinking about it. Kind of like American Beauty....bit disturbing.
ammotroop 02-14-2008, 02:42 PM The whole ending was odd.
Childress79 03-25-2008, 12:59 PM I saw this yesterday.
Very similar to 'The Assination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford' in that there were two excellent acting performances buried in a depressing & often boring film.
Just my 2 cents.

I really liked the Robert Ford film.. The setting, visuals etc. were a big part of that one. Very grey...

It did have a very authentic feel to it. It reminded me a little of Unforgiven.
mellowyellow 04-28-2008, 01:18 PM One of the best movies ive seen in a long time.
