View Full Version : Very encouraging review for Cloverfield Creeping-Cruds 01-12-2008, 12:44 PM http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35236/url Wow... can I buy my ticket now? Childress79 01-12-2008, 02:23 PM If it's as different as he says Hollywood will pump out a couple of rip off clones lickety split. It sounds like great movie though & I can't wait to see it. KamikaZ 01-12-2008, 03:36 PM I'll see it probably, it sounds cool. Deuce Wayne 01-12-2008, 05:16 PM I'm expecting it to flop. The first trailer looked interesting. The 2nd trailer ruined the anticipation. Just another CGI movie more than likely. GoTitans3801 01-12-2008, 10:49 PM Well, sounded good, but then I read some of the other reviews on the site... They're all about how various movies are AMAZING... but they're mostly horrible movies! Not sure I can buy into this guy's opinion... Creeping-Cruds 01-12-2008, 11:41 PM I'm expecting it to flop. The first trailer looked interesting. The 2nd trailer ruined the anticipation. Just another CGI movie more than likely. If it is yet another CGI suckfest I will make it known to everyone in this camp... avvie 01-15-2008, 04:38 AM Read the reader responses, CC...Harry gets taken to task for giving huge BJs to several film directors. Gunny 01-15-2008, 05:39 AM This guys review sounds like mine of the Simpsons movie. Total fan boyism. (and it's still the best movie of 2007) KamikaZ 01-15-2008, 11:01 AM That site is good for news, but the reviews are awful. Horribly written, and totally gushing. Deuce Wayne 01-15-2008, 12:43 PM Simpsons was like a drawn out, boring version of the show. But, since you admitted fan boyism, I'll let it slide Gunny. Gunny 01-16-2008, 03:13 AM Simpsons was like a drawn out, boring version of the show. But, since you admitted fan boyism, I'll let it slide Gunny. That's alright. Since you have a long history of having no idea on anything, your opinion matters very little. Deuce Wayne 01-16-2008, 12:13 PM Yep, that's me. Because I don't think PS3 is god and all. Name me ONE funny part of the simpsons movie, because I cant remember a single one. And if you dare say spider-pig, you're done for. I knew watching the trailers that if that was a highlight of the movie that it'd be bad. Yossarian 01-16-2008, 02:36 PM The Simpsons Movie was indeed a great movie ... laughed all the way through it.. few dull moments Yossarian 01-16-2008, 02:37 PM Yep, that's me. Because I don't think PS3 is god and all. Name me ONE funny part of the simpsons movie, because I cant remember a single one. And if you dare say spider-pig, you're done for. I knew watching the trailers that if that was a highlight of the movie that it'd be bad. what movie did you find funny in 2007? Gunny 01-16-2008, 03:13 PM Yep, that's me. Because I don't think PS3 is god and all. Name me ONE funny part of the simpsons movie, because I cant remember a single one. And if you dare say spider-pig, you're done for. I knew watching the trailers that if that was a highlight of the movie that it'd be bad. See, this is what you just simply cannot comprehend. Just because someone finds something funny and you don't, doesn't make it not funny. Just like if someone has a different opinion to you, doesn't mean they are wrong. I am not going to argue what was funny and what wasn't simply because it is a subjective choice, something you clearly cannot understand. The Simpsons movie is top 20 in worldwide income, clearly a lot of people liked it. KamikaZ 01-16-2008, 03:28 PM My friend saw a early screening as a student at Michigan State, and described the monster to me. PM if you want the description. PickledMidget 01-16-2008, 05:13 PM Anyone hearing Voltron talk with this movie??? Some of the sites are saying there might be a connection. Either way, I am excited. I love JJ's work. avvie 01-17-2008, 10:09 PM I wonder if we'll have it here on Maui tomorrow?... Deuce Wayne 01-18-2008, 08:41 PM So far everyone seems very disappointed with it. Say it's blair witch with CGI effects and a movie monster? I'll still check it out, but I'm not expecting much. bigtitan53279 01-18-2008, 10:01 PM http://beta.rottentomatoes.com/m/cloverfield/ i guess "everyone" means 22%.... haven't seen it myself, but i will sometime in the next week. avvie 01-19-2008, 10:32 AM I enjoyed it. We knew it was "found footage" format, so there shouldn't be any complaints there. PickledMidget 01-20-2008, 01:01 AM Crazy movie. I'll try not to spoil anything, but I have a question... What brought that helicopter down? avvie 01-20-2008, 11:54 AM The monster smacked it down. Deuce Wayne 01-20-2008, 05:54 PM http://beta.rottentomatoes.com/m/cloverfield/ i guess "everyone" means 22%.... haven't seen it myself, but i will sometime in the next week. lol, 24% and it's dropping as we speak. Many times the word "everyone" is used lightly. Welcome to America! The public thought blair witch project sucked too, but look at ol faithful rottentomatoes! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/blair_witch_project/ Yossarian 01-21-2008, 12:28 AM I enjoyed it Deuce Wayne 01-21-2008, 02:17 PM I may go see it tonight. I hear it's a love story? lol The more I read about how terrible it is, the more I don't want to see it, so I stopped reading. Sounds sorta like I Am Legend all over again, a lot of hype leads to a lot of 'wtf's. PickledMidget 01-21-2008, 03:40 PM For those who have seen the movie, there is a voice at the end of the credits. Some folks online have already played the voice backwards to reveal more. Anyways.....search Cloverfield credits if you want more. I will leave it at that. Creeping-Cruds 01-22-2008, 10:48 PM Saw Cloverfield today... Godzilla meets Blair Witch (with phonier actors)... Not great, but fun... Better than the American Godzilla (GINO) if that means anything to anyone here... avvie 01-23-2008, 10:51 PM I heard a rumor that this monster was a rejected version of the 1998 Godzilla...which is good because putting this monster and Matthew Broderick on the same piece of celluloid should be punishable by death. Gunny 01-24-2008, 02:51 AM I may go see it tonight. I hear it's a love story? lol The more I read about how terrible it is, the more I don't want to see it, so I stopped reading. Sounds sorta like I Am Legend all over again, a lot of hype leads to a lot of 'wtf's. Here's a zany, off the wall idea: How about you go see it and judge for yourself? Hoffa 01-24-2008, 08:39 PM Godzilla movies became popular in Japan after WWII. Social psychologists have said their fascination came from being attacked and having cities destroyed by the US, and Godzilla represented the outside forces (Allies). Seeing cities in your country attacked from outside and annihilated has a profound effect on a nations psyche. I wonder if all the movies we've seen the past few years showing US cities being destroyed come from our own psychological trauma, after the disturbing images of 9/11? Creeping-Cruds 01-24-2008, 09:03 PM Godzilla movies became popular in Japan after WWII. The original Gojira specifically was a reaction to the devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the monster itself a reflection of the US - 10 years after the bombs. All that US-friendly Raymond Burr footage was added later. The Burr-less version is a whole different and far more dramatic movie.. One subsequent Godzilla movie was immediately made following the original then the monster disappeared for an entire decade. Ironically that next movie pitted Japan's iconic beast against America's favorite big guy King Kong in another statement to the US. Godzilla's glory years were actually in the 60's.. Many of the Kaiju represent different countries and themes. King Ghidorah represents China in all it's golden dragon-esque glory. Seesar was Korea, Hedora represented environmentally irresponsible humanity itself... We need more Godzilla threads! Starkiller 01-24-2008, 09:42 PM What did Matthew Broderick represent? :bricks: avvie 01-24-2008, 10:16 PM What did Matthew Broderick represent? Japan's struggle to find leisure time ;) Creeping-Cruds 01-24-2008, 11:16 PM What did Matthew Broderick represent? :bricks: Let's not even discuss the turdlet that was the 1998 TriStar American Godzilla - or that monster lovingly referred to as GINO (Godzilla In Name Only) by real Kaiju fans. Here's a favorite scene of the real Godzilla quickly dispatching GINO: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JOISbaA2G18 LT21Titans27 01-24-2008, 11:17 PM I heard it straight blew chunks, box office blast, shows what exposure can blow things up into Yossarian 01-25-2008, 02:37 PM wow, how bad was that? Gunny 01-27-2008, 02:28 AM It was an ok movie. Nothing explained about the monster. Just a mindless monster movie using the Blair Witch method. Any sequels will just be either the same, or a normal movie which will probably blow. avvie 01-27-2008, 12:33 PM I'm hoping for no sequels. That would just be silly. No, nothing is explained about the monster. I'm pretty sure that nobody at Rob's party were in the monster identification business ;) Deuce Wayne 01-28-2008, 10:58 PM Here's a zany, off the wall idea: How about you go see it and judge for yourself? Here's a zany idea: Acquiring info or analysis to decide if something is worth your time might be logical! And it was. Watching this movie at home, I lasted 30 minutes. It's an instant headache. Childress79 01-29-2008, 11:41 AM I'm hoping for no sequels. That would just be silly. Abrahams has talked about retelling the same events from the perspective of another group of people & their story. I haven't seen it yet so I can't really comment. Gloat; Since this is directed like it's all captured by a hand held camera, watching a copy filmed on a cam would give anyone a headache. Deuce Wayne 01-29-2008, 11:43 AM Yeah. Well, it's a dvd rip. But still, it was a movie made for theatres only apparently. Nobody will be able to watch it from home without their eyes bleeding. I dont watch cam versions. The dvd screener always slips these days anyway. Childress79 01-29-2008, 11:55 AM If you say so.:moon2: Gunny 01-30-2008, 05:40 AM How do they get DVD rips to upload anyway? Deuce Wayne 01-30-2008, 09:41 AM If you say so.:moon2: c'mon man. Even all the positive reviews on RT.com mention how their eyes felt like they were bleeding before it was over, and that was on a theater screen. Imagine it on anything below a 73" tv. It's not going to be popular at home. Childress79 01-30-2008, 09:49 AM c'mon man. Even all the positive reviews on RT.com mention how their eyes felt like they were bleeding before it was over, and that was on a theater screen. Imagine it on anything below a 73" tv. It's not going to be popular at home. I hear you but Bourne was like that & after a while I didn't notice it.I suppose it could depend how engrossing the film is. Puck 02-04-2008, 06:18 PM saw a very very poor copy of this last night there were moments that I was really into it decent enough flick some people get the "found footage" concept other get motion sickness I'm going to have to wait until I view at least a screen copy or a DVD rip Gunny 02-05-2008, 02:47 AM or you know, do it legally. Deuce Wayne 02-05-2008, 09:59 AM or you know, do it legally. legally? Yeah, and while you're at it, pay money for albums too! hahahaha good one gunny. Childress79 02-07-2008, 05:59 PM I finally got to see it at cinema on Monday. Neither myself or my girlfriend had any issues with the so called motion sickness . I really like the film & it left me wanting to know more about Cloverfield & what happened to it.Did Lily or anyone else make it? I like the fact that there was no clichéd build up to the events that happened or any war room sparring by Generals trying to influence a President. It just kicked in & didn't let up. Leanne on the other hand came out of the cinema thinking it was a pile of crap. She didn't like that there was no back story or in her mind a satisfactory ending. After a good debate she she came around & would recommend viewing it. The comparisons to Blair Witch are unfair as the only similarities are the idea of seeing a movie as found footage. This was a well made movie with a decent budget & I'm glad a studio had the nuts to trust JJ Abrahams with something different. avvie 02-08-2008, 02:06 AM legally? Yeah, and while you're at it, pay money for albums too! hahahaha good one gunny. Glad you mentioned that. I got one friend who is a great guy, honest and respectable in all his affairs save this one. He's a HUGE pirate,a dn isn't ashamed of it...in fact, he thinks it should be done. Effin' dispicable. Eight Gov 07-14-2008, 02:37 PM I loved Cloverfield. They are making a sequel where one of the characters was another guy with a video camera on the bridge where the main character's brother died. If you watch it again, you'll see another dude with a camera. Burner28 07-14-2008, 02:58 PM Did anyone see the monster fall into the water in the last scene of the movie? Gunny 07-14-2008, 04:42 PM Did anyone see the monster fall into the water in the last scene of the movie? I tried looking for it (watched it again the other day) and I couldn't see it. Burner28 07-14-2008, 04:45 PM I tried looking for it (watched it again the other day) and I couldn't see it. same here, i'm going to get on youtube and look Burner28 07-14-2008, 06:22 PM Burner28 07-14-2008, 06:31 PM I got some cool vids on youtube and look at this. bigtitan53279 07-14-2008, 07:32 PM They are making a sequel where one of the characters was another guy with a video camera on the bridge where the main character's brother died. If you watch it again, you'll see another dude with a camera. now that people know they're going to get screwed out of $9 for a ticket, i doubt it will do very well. Crash Override 07-15-2008, 03:16 AM I thought it was good, one guy in the theater said this is the worst movie then goes no batman and robin actually was. Funny as hell, one guy screamed out you gotta kill it with the hammer of dawn. Gunny 07-15-2008, 06:55 AM Continuing the same method (hand held camera) it just won't work again and again. Creeping-Cruds 07-15-2008, 12:48 PM Continuing the same method (hand held camera) it just won't work again and again. Why not? The unquestioning public continually drinks up one bad superhero movie after another... Burner28 07-15-2008, 12:57 PM What I liked about Cloverfield was the suspense. They didn't give long previews, everyone thought it was a monster but didn't know for sure, and just how realistic it was with the camera. In Cloverfield 2 how do they repeat that? We already know it's a monster. What shocking scene will they have this time? I'll go see it but it's just a twist to bring in more money. bigtitan53279 07-15-2008, 01:06 PM I'll go see it but it's just a twist to bring in more money. you know it's a ploy to get some easy money, but you'll see it anyway. way to give in. Burner28 07-15-2008, 01:08 PM you know it's a ploy to get some easy money, but you'll see it anyway. way to give in. geez, okay I'll rent it! |
