View Full Version : Gone Baby Gone
Deuce Wayne 02-07-2008, 01:11 PM Somehow went under the radar this year. Much better than a lot of movies that have received major hype, IMO.

93% on rottentomatoes, but yet I haven't heard much about it. Enjoyed it though. Affleck may need to stick with directing.
GoTitans3801 02-07-2008, 01:27 PM Wow. Remember last week when you were saying how rotten tomatoes was a terrible basis for judging movies?
This is why I bicker with you so much. No consistency, no real point, just throwing things out there without logic or real opinion.

It had a delayed & messed up release because it was due out just as the Madeline McCann abduction story broke. Afleck asked the studio to put it on ice out of respect for the McCanns situation. By the time it came out the cast weren't available to promote it.
What did you think at the end, without giving anything away, did he make the right decision?
I would have gone the other way without question. I've seen too many alcoholics & junkies to see it any other way.
One of the best movies made in a long while.
I agree with you Childress, I would have gone the other way as well. It's obvious where the real happiness would have been.

and lol @ BigTitan. Dude, I'm using RT to show people liked a movie that some may not have ever heard of. I am not however trying to prove it's a good movie (as you were) with RT ratings.
Nice try though. Following logic within an argument might help you, and might help me in the process.
ammotroop 02-09-2008, 08:20 AM I liked the movie. I would have went the other way to.

this is bigtitan's first post on this thread, but thanks for thinking about me....
Deuce Wayne 02-11-2008, 03:56 PM Mai bad. Just saw Upper, lower, upper-Titan in the name.
GoTitans3801 02-13-2008, 10:42 PM You've done that a couple of times in the last few weeks.
You were citing to RT to support a movie you liked, while criticizing it the week before. It's very inconsistent.
Deuce Wayne 02-14-2008, 01:50 AM Once again. I'm not citing RT to say the movie is good. I'm citing RT as a support for MY opinion. This isn't rocket science. YOU however were saying "well, RT says it's good, so it is!".
GoTitans3801 02-14-2008, 11:06 AM It's ridiculous to cite a source that supports your opinion when you criticize the source when you don't agree with it. That's the exact reason why I can't every really take your arguments/statements seriously, you just say whatever you want, and don't worry about logical consistency of your opinions. It's similar to your issue with not even noticing who you're talking to, you don't take the time to think about what you're saying, you just throw something out there on a whim, or at least it seems that way.
I don't think I've ever said that RT saying a movie is good means that it is.
Deuce Wayne 02-14-2008, 02:42 PM No. It's not ridiculous. For the reason that I'll say so and so got an Oscar. It's to stir an interest if it wasn't already present. Not to say "this guy is good. Want proof? He got an oscar". It doesnt work that way.
Might be too complex. Sorry if it is.
GoTitans3801 02-14-2008, 02:48 PM Ah... stirring an interest... interesting defense, sense most criticism of you is that you just say things to get a rise out of people. Still a reason I choose not to listen to you. It's not too complex, don't kid yourself.
talk about an ethics check
do you do the right thing or do you do what is in the best interest of the individual ? personally, I think the 'right' choice was made .... but I would have preferred to have stayed in the 'sane' environment

If you don't listen to me, why are you here? Just curious. Spider-senses?
GoTitans3801 02-18-2008, 12:32 AM Mostly just trying to see if you have any self-awareness... Turns out, no...
GoTitans/Gloat vendetta thread or Gone Baby Gone thread?

I agree. It's all about your own morals/ethics. Does the happiness of the innocent outweigh the socially 'right' in this situation?
Dam right it does, if you ask me.

Good cover. I could keep you here for 2 more threads, but i'll just let you go back to 'not listening to me'. You know...by reading my posts. :)
it's ridiculous that threads end up in this shape
this crap should be confined to the Smack forums or PM's
someone new to the group looking for information about the thread comes in and sees members slinging mud should be disappointed
it's no wonder so many members have left for other sites
Deuce Wayne 02-20-2008, 12:09 AM Yeah. This is the reason. Right here. lmao It's such a tragedy!
Sappersis 02-20-2008, 12:45 AM I'm just curious why everyon is saying this movie went "under the radar" It didn't have the box office openings of other movies... but everyone around Indy has been talking about it nonstop. Maybe its just cause i work next to the fashion malls art theatre...
GoTitans3801 02-20-2008, 04:59 PM Puck, I agree with you completely, and wish I wasn't one of the parties that you were talking about. I guess I've just had a hard time ignoring gloat when he "stirs the pot".
Deuce Wayne 02-20-2008, 08:27 PM It's no big deal. It's ok to have a disagreement on a message board. You didn't stab anyone like puck makes it out to seem.
christ...If people don't want to see 2 people pick at each other for a few posts, they should log off the internet immediately. It's simply not the place they should be.
GoTitans3801 02-20-2008, 10:30 PM There are better things that can be done on this forum. I know it's certainly not a crime, but it's a waste of space, time, and energy, and I'd rather be a worthwhile poster than one who bores/annoys everyone.
Edit- that's really not meant to be as harsh or as direct as it sounds. It's supposed to be more about me than you.
Deuce Wayne 02-21-2008, 02:01 AM Nah, it's cool. It actually makes things interesting for me. If we all just pretended to be nice guys with no true opinion of our own, it'd make forums pointless. I'm sure Martha Stewart's board even has annoying posters.
It's easy enough to skip over. I always hate how board kids act like they don't have the strength to simply click somewhere else if they don't want to read something.
For instance: search nazis! yeah, you know the type.
it's one thing to have differences of opinion regarding the thread topic
it's something else attacking people on a personal level
Deuce Wayne 02-23-2008, 04:58 PM No one is attacking. Lighten up, guy.
Creeping-Cruds 03-02-2008, 11:18 PM Back to the movie..
Nice to see a so many HBO (The Wire, Deadwood, Carnivale, Oz etc.) favorites getting together on the big screen.
Amy Ryan and Titus Welliver were outstanding in this one.. Nice to see Omar get a nice role as well..
Gunny 03-02-2008, 11:23 PM I'd like to see a message board where no one bickers.
Deuce Wayne 03-03-2008, 05:00 PM ^it'd be a wonderful thing, eh? But we couldn't be members, so...

I'm right there with you on this one. It's a tough choice, but to me it's the only choice that could be made.
Loved the film by the way. One of the better films of 2007
------------SPOILER ALERT---------------------------------
(honestly I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have liked the film if he let the Freeman character keep the child in the end. Kind of like Mystic River... which had me up til the end then lost me... fully and completely)
