View Full Version : John Adams Creeping-Cruds 03-17-2008, 10:10 PM Anyone else catch the first two segments of John Adams last night? Very well done take on the founding fathers.. Probably available on OnDemand.. Yossarian 03-17-2008, 11:12 PM wish I had seen it.. looks really good Puck 03-18-2008, 01:19 PM I saw the episode titled 'Independence' great filmmaking imo but couldn't figure what was with the odd camera angles Kid Gloves 03-19-2008, 05:50 PM I watched it last night. I thought it was very well done. Paul Giamatti did an awesome job in it. Puck 03-24-2008, 08:26 PM didn't care for the "Don't tread on Me" (ep3) finally got around to watching Ep1 (Join or Die) .. pretty good Independence (ep2) best one so far I must have missed it, but shouldn't the events of the Boston Tea Party been in Ep1 ? Kid Gloves 03-26-2008, 07:02 PM didn't care for the "Don't tread on Me" (ep3) finally got around to watching Ep1 (Join or Die) .. pretty good Independence (ep2) best one so far Ep3 may not be the best, but most important in that John Adams and his son, John Quincy (as you know, both were eventually presidents) went to France to meet up with Franklin and Jefferson; seeking financial & military aid. The Franklin "tub scene" was priceless. :ha: I must have missed it, but shouldn't the events of the Boston Tea Party been in Ep1 ? I think they had to explain the Boston Massacre first. His character changed (had to) quite a bit with his post-trial sucess. Puck 03-31-2008, 12:50 AM just viewed "Reunion" by far my favorite so far there's some great filmmaking here titanbuoy 04-01-2008, 04:46 PM This thread is killing me... i'm dying to read everyone's thought on the series (which I think thus far has been pretty fantastic), but we're a week behind up here, they just aired the third episode this past Sunday night. I just quickly scrolled down to the bottom and did the "quick reply" to avoid any possible spoilers. Maybe I'm reading into things, and this might be a bit of a spoiler, but I think this "General Washington" character may go on to do some big things. Puck 04-01-2008, 07:54 PM I try not to introduce any spoilers for ya didn't episode 3 suck ? titanbuoy 04-01-2008, 10:16 PM I didn't mind it, but I know what you mean. I'm can't think of the precise term, but it was one of those episodes that got a lot of essential plot out of the way. I thought it also shed a lot of light on Adams as a man. It was funny how Franklin played into the euros stereotype of an American, and how the french had heard of his gregarious cousin Sam and seemed disappointed in the less than charismatic John Adams. The only thing worse than being sick in the 1700s... was being forced to go to the doctor. YIKES! Imagine waking up in the 1700s? Wool suits... influenza... horse crap everywhere. Can you imagine what it smelled like on the city streets of New York or Philadelphia? I think i'd quickly learn to load a pistol... so I could put a bullet in my head (although I'd probably drop dead from food poisoning after my first meal). Puck 04-01-2008, 11:34 PM they certainly were different times I think this series illustrates them well Creeping-Cruds 04-02-2008, 11:41 AM Ah, the good ole days.. If you didn't wanna catch the pox you just scrape some sick dude's pustules and jab yourself with the ooze... I think I feel a cold coming on.. where's my leeches? Puck 04-02-2008, 09:28 PM ^ that was wild but the concept is still used to this day Kid Gloves 04-03-2008, 04:33 PM Three parts left to show on this 7-part series. HBO Films - John Adams (http://www.hbo.com/films/johnadams/) Remember Laura Linney in Mystic River? She must love those Bostonian parts. Alex1939 04-08-2008, 10:41 PM Just watched the first episode. Think I'll finish the series, seems very well done. Complements to Giamatti. RollTide 04-13-2008, 05:14 AM I highly recommend david mccullogh's book one of the best books ever writen about anything in the last 20 years. His book about the Panama canal is also an epic masterpiece and highly recommended. Kid Gloves 04-13-2008, 09:42 AM ^ Is it about John Adams? Puck 04-20-2008, 10:48 PM just finished this short but extraordinary series interesting John being the subject I wouldn't mind seeing a series for Jefferson, Franklin or Washington Kid Gloves 04-21-2008, 06:34 PM Yes - Just caught the last episode last night. The series was very well done and I hope to see more from HBO films. Kudos to all involved... Creeping-Cruds 04-21-2008, 10:31 PM Good lord that episode was depressing...I had read the story about Adams and Jefferson both kicking on the 50th Independance Day and that Adams had supposedly uttered "Jefferson survives" unknowing that he had in fact outlived him.. HBO has had a good run of it on Sunday nights for many years now but this summer they are airing no new seasons of anything other than a few movies. They fired the head of the dept over some major programming mistakes. It will be pretty tough for them to fill the shoes of series . We'll see when Last of the Ninth and True Blood airs later down the road.. |
