This poll is the highly successful Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Since this is in the movie section I'm going to go ahead and put two and two together and assume you're talking about the flicks. I liked all of the films but the impact of seeing middle-earth realized in live action the big screen for the first time was impossible for Jacksom to recreate in his sequels (at least for me), so I'd have to go with the first offering "The Fellowship of the Ring".

I am going with the Two Towers BARELY over The Return of the King. The fight at Helms Deep was damn good.

I'm afraid that I can't vote for it that way, because it is, in fact, one long story and not three related ones with recurring characters and three different climactic scenes. Unlike the Stars Wars trilogies, there's no change in time frames or locations. The books and movies would simply be entirely too much to take in all at once, and would have never been read or watched.

I agree with Avvie, I can't rank them. But not just because it's all 1 big story. I can't pick between them, I thought they were all great.

I went ahead with ROTK. Because it had more action and more humor.
However, if you like a better storyline, Fellowship had the best story.
Helm's Deep battle was amazing, but I like the Pelanoor Fields battle in ROTK just a tad more

Don't know if it was because the first set the bar so high that I was dissapointed by the other two, but Fellowship was easily my favourite. Don't know why but the performances of Viggo Mortensen, Sean Bean and Ian McKellen just seemed better... and the Nazgul-chase aspect has always been a favourite part of the story for me.

I never read the book, and I would say the first movie was by far the best. I felt as though I was on an adventure. No clue where I was going. And I loved the creepy creature trying to steal the ring. He was the best chracter by far. I think right up until he put the ring on for the first time I was really pulled into the story. After that, it was more or less a fantasy film, but the beginning was very well done and the theme of wanting the ring was well established, when it easily could have been botched.
