View Full Version : Saturday, July 26 TitanJeff 07-26-2008, 10:02 AM 3:30 session today... weather permitting. TitanJeff 07-26-2008, 11:06 AM CJ will be on the field. That should bring out the masses. Hoffa 07-26-2008, 01:15 PM Think I'm going to go today, if it isn't raining... JMB54 07-26-2008, 02:19 PM was planning on going but a 100 mile trip is too much to chance with todays weather. RollTide 07-26-2008, 06:58 PM Unremarkable day considering they are not in full pads yet. In the kick off drills every ball was caught and to be honest i didn't get too thrilled with anything CJ did. After CJ returned a kick and looked totally ordinary the guy next to me said "wow, and that's just 3/4 speed". I felt like asking him if he should be impressed with a guy who doesn't give 100%.:brow: Carr, griffin, mccareins were the other primary returners. Clearly carr looked like the best guy just from those drills. Mccareins was surprisingly fast and quick. Caught a brief glimpse of the linebackers in an int drill and keglar looked very impressive. Clearly stood out as one of the faster, quicker linebackers. The Gloat 07-26-2008, 07:16 PM and to be honest i didn't get too thrilled with anything CJ did. wow...none of us would have ever guessed... I felt like asking him if he should be impressed with a guy who doesn't give 100% Sounds like that guy understands how the 2nd day of training camp works, unlike yourself. RollTide 07-26-2008, 07:35 PM Part deux defensive linemen... Almost all my time was watching the defensive linemen work out. Haynesworth was there kearse was not. Most of the drills focused on firing off the ball. Jones looked solid like he belonged. Strong and quick with good technique already. Jones played exlusively at DT. He is starting off #5 in the pecking order behind haynesworth-brown-johnson-vickerson but doesn't act like it. Our other rookie didn't look all that great at all. Hayes didn't look quick or focused and was the first guy to get water. Everyone had a water break and then they had the sled drill. In that drill guys in groups of 2 fire off and hit the sled 3 times the final time breaking past and sprinting about 10 yards. Hayes was back hitting the water just after that. Maybe the kid isn't in good shape yet. He does have that deer in the headlights look. Jacob ford on the other hand looks terrific. He was the fastest lineman and did well in the reach blocking drills. In the drills a fellow d-lineman similates an o-lineman trying to keep you from getting to the outside. Ford beat his man easily. Then they had a drill where he is supposed to do a rip move and cut inside the block and he was great at that. The one guy who received the most criticism from washburn was johnson. One time washburn yelled at him to move his arse he was the last damn guy off the line. Well he was the biggest of the bunch and is coming off acl surgery. Doesn't matter. Clearly washburn sees him as a guy who can play but needs some pushing. The gold star goes to jacob ford who played his butt off. Jones comes in a solid 2nd. reo 07-26-2008, 07:51 PM Almost all my time was watching the defensive linemen work out. Haynesworth was there kearse was not. they've already said that kearse won't be in until tomorrow. he's at the funeral for Samari Rolle's father. Carpy 07-26-2008, 07:55 PM Thanks RT. reo 07-26-2008, 08:25 PM http://www.titansradio.com/audio08/previewheimerdinger.mp3 Dinger interview. let me know if the link doesn't work. good interview. 15mins or so. looking to get CJ 15-20 carries. Loves VY's work ethic. likes the WR competition. reminds him of the first time he came in and everyone said our WRs sucked but worked out alright. TitanJeff 07-26-2008, 08:26 PM The Tennessean report: http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080726/SPORTS01/80726019/1027 goTitans.com 07-26-2008, 08:26 PM SUMMARY: The second day of Titans training camp saw temperatures closer to what most of the regulars remember from camps past. The team came out in shorts and shells with many eyes on the return of Albert Haynesworth after signing his tender yesterday and the debut of first-round draft pick Chris Johnson who reached an agreement on his contract earlier today. The Titans started out with the punting units. One of the players I neglected to mention yesterday is fourth-round draft pick Lavelle Hawkins who is working with the returners. But most of the attention was on Johnson who lived up to expectations by showing his speed to the Titans faithful in attendance. Except RollTide (On if Haynesworth looked like he had a six-pack) You know he actually looked pretty good, I was pleased with his weight at his reporting. But I haven’t seen him with his shirt off. :ha: RollTide 07-26-2008, 09:24 PM Showing his speed? If someone told you that #28 was amad charles this udfa they got from mofo U you would have believed it. Nothing at all to set himself apart from the other guys. Didn't look any faster than griffen returning kicks and not as fast as carr. I like how the guy hasn't played a real scrimmage down yet and already they are handing him the ball 15-20 times. I guess he doesn't have to earn his playing time. TitanJeff 07-26-2008, 09:44 PM Showing his speed? If someone told you that #28 was amad charles this udfa they got from mofo U you would have believed it. Nothing at all to set himself apart from the other guys. Didn't look any faster than griffen returning kicks and not as fast as carr. Are you to the point yet you WANT CJ to do bad just to support your viewpoint? I'm not saying he's the future Rookie of the Year based on one practice but he looked fast to me today. I look forward to seeing him in pads Tuesday. reo 07-26-2008, 09:57 PM Are you to the point yet you WANT CJ to do bad just to support your viewpoint? I'm not saying he's the future Rookie of the Year based on one practice but he looked fast to me. sounds like he only really watched him during KR duties where he's mainly focusing on catching the ball and not running through holes or by people and then went to watch the DL. Doesn't seem like he really watched him during 11v11. Starkiller 07-26-2008, 11:27 PM It's hard to tell how any RB or returner would do in a game based on the fake tackling of training camp, but his speed is simply not up for debate. He didn't get any slower when he signed his contract (unless his wallet was in his back pocket)... Da Architek 07-26-2008, 11:27 PM I got a chance too catch practice today too: Watched the DLine and Kickoff Return first: Man o man are we gonna have an explosive defensive line. Jacob Ford did look great but he is still a little light. Washburn stayed on Hayes tough for the first couple of drills, and hayes showed his frustration. On the drills where the Dline was working on getting the Olinemen off them and ripping inside, he gave Hayes some praise. David Ball looks like a really high energy type of guy. Chris Car, Griffin, and Chris Johnson look like the front runners for the returnmen. They just look so much faster than the rest RB: Lendale still looks out of shape to me. I watched him limp as he walked off the field today. His knee may be a problem this year. Chris Johnson has some speed, but his vision is great.....he can set up his cutback lanes and blockers flawlessly. I swear Quinton Ganther looks better than Henry out there. WRs: Mike Williams looked like he was in slow motion today. Im talking about everything from getting out of the breaks, his route running, his moves, EVERYTHING. He was the only WR who constantly rested on one knee and went for water. WR Edward Williams out of Lane looks FAST... esp for his 6'4". Reminds me of Calico with hands (guess thats why we kept him over Jason Rivers out of Hawaii). Lavelle Hawkins is looking like a steal. Not quite running with the 1s, but seems to be a step ahead of the 2s. QB: Vince didnt look sharp to me today. On one play paul williams TOASTED harper on a double move for an easy six, BUT VY under threw the pass allowing harper to catch up and break up the catch. He isnt looking sharp on the downfield throws. LBs: I dont know much about Campbell he looks a little light, but damn he is fast. Gunny 07-26-2008, 11:34 PM Interesting the perspectives people have. Starkiller 07-26-2008, 11:55 PM I thought it was worth noting that the QBs and RBs were practicing the pitch out. I don't recall if they ever practiced that in past years, but it seems to me that having VY and Johnson (and Henry?) is the same backfield will give the Titans a lot of speed and perhaps a chance to use the option and/or the pitch out. RollTide 07-27-2008, 02:15 AM I don't recall if they ever practiced that in past years Yes the toss play will be back in the playbook. I would rather focus on execution rather than trying to be cute or outsmarting anyone. I don't like the idea of vince running option plays at all. Crash Override 07-27-2008, 03:40 AM Speed doesn't always translate from college to the nfl. Also, 15-20 carries a game for Johnson. I can understand touches, run & pass, but carries that is a little to much we have to see if he can take the hits. TitanJeff 07-27-2008, 08:25 AM I swear Quinton Ganther looks better than Henry out there. He does look good. I keep telling myself that there is not any way to truly judge anything you see when the guys are not in pads. Even then, they're not going to hit like they would in a game. The Don 07-27-2008, 09:33 AM RB: Lendale still looks out of shape to me. I watched him limp as he walked off the field today. His knee may be a problem this year. What is the story with his knee? Hoffa 07-27-2008, 10:28 AM The one guy who received the most criticism from washburn was johnson. I must have been standing close to you, I heard all that. Washburn kept calling him "Mookie". After a one-on-one drill Washburn said to the guy that got beat, "Let me get this right, you're the 2nd round pick and he's the 4th?" I couldn't make out who the two were, did you? Soxcat 07-27-2008, 11:01 AM ...I swear Quinton Ganther looks better than Henry out there. .... I wasn't at the Sat practice but Henry looked better than last year on Friday. Seems like he is doing a better job of reading the blocks instead of just running to a spot. Starkiller 07-27-2008, 11:13 AM Speed doesn't always translate from college to the nfl. Also, 15-20 carries a game for Johnson. I can understand touches, run & pass, but carries that is a little to much we have to see if he can take the hits. Oh, there's no doubt that the defenses he'll face will be faster that the ones he saw in college, but he isn't any slower now than before and he was blazing fast before... cld12pk2go 07-27-2008, 11:34 AM I must have been standing close to you, I heard all that. Washburn kept calling him "Mookie". After a one-on-one drill Washburn said to the guy that got beat, "Let me get this right, you're the 2nd round pick and he's the 4th?" I couldn't make out who the two were, did you? If they were Dline, it would have to be Jones and Hayes. No one else was drafted in those rounds that are still on the team (well KVB aside 2nd round by the Cards - but I doubt that conversation would involve KVB). Hoffa 07-27-2008, 02:37 PM I also watched some 7 versus 7, and must say I was not impressed by VY. He stood forever in the pocket (longer than he would ever get in a game) and it seemed like 90% of the time he threw a dump pass to Crumpler near the line of scrimmage. The few times he tried anything longer it was broken up by the defender. The whole atmosphere seemed strange yesterday, sort of what The Mrs was saying earlier. Not sure if it's good or bad, just everyone seems sort of ho-hum about everything. I see Heimerdinger and the other coach's saying a lot of things to the players, but Fisher just walks around and seems to never speak. I guess in the NFL the other coach's coach, and the HC is more of the media face for the team... Hoffa 07-27-2008, 02:39 PM ...it would have to be Jones and Hayes.. That sounds right. It was definitely not KVB. TitanJeff 07-27-2008, 03:12 PM I also watched some 7 versus 7, and must say I was not impressed by VY. He stood forever in the pocket (longer than he would ever get in a game) and it seemed like 90% of the time he threw a dump pass to Crumpler near the line of scrimmage. The few times he tried anything longer it was broken up by the defender. So far, Young hasn't taken many shots down field or over the middle which makes me wonder if Dinger will be opening things up. If I didn't know better, the Titans offense looks a lot to me like the Chow offense from the past two seasons so far. The whole atmosphere seemed strange yesterday, sort of what The Mrs was saying earlier. Not sure if it's good or bad, just everyone seems sort of ho-hum about everything. The intensity level hasn't been high at all. It's almost as if the team is taking a more professional approach. I heard some of the defense yesterday after they got their hands on a few Young passes but, other than that, it has been fairly bland so far. Da Architek 07-27-2008, 03:59 PM RB: Lendale still looks out of shape to me. I watched him limp as he walked off the field today. His knee may be a problem this year. What is the story with his knee? From what I understand his knee was injured all last season and he had surgery in the offseason to repair it.... I really dont think he is 100% out there I also watched some 7 versus 7, and must say I was not impressed by VY. I totally noticed the same thing..... i dont know if he is having a hard time reading the coverages or what but he hasnt looked acurrate in the back field.... hopefully he is holding on to the ball longer because its practice The Gloat 07-27-2008, 05:32 PM Is Omar Cuff getting any touches yet? He'll show Henry up, I guarantee it. Hopefully he'll get some shine in preseason, and land somewhere as a 2nd or 3rd. He's got skills. RollTide 07-27-2008, 07:13 PM Maybe he will beat out CJ as the 3dRB. Based on your typical analysis henry should win hands down since he had the better 40 time. That's all that matters right? Seriously i wonder why cuff didn't crack 5 yards a carry ever in his career. That is the standard. My guess is that he ends up on the practice squad... wycheck28 07-27-2008, 07:52 PM from what ive been hearing out of titans training camp so far is the team looks out of sink and very blaah to the point were it looks like the players are just going through the motions and have a oh well attitude.. now take in consideration training camp is just starting but the the thing that scares me most ( and trust me thiers alot of things that scare me about the titans this year} is i would think they would be excited to be back on the field and ready to take the next step twords the super bowl... i hope they pick it up this week and get some of their intensity back because the last time i checked the colts are still the the colts the faguars added some talent this offseason the texans are still improving and as far as im concerned we really shot ourselves in the foot this offseason so we better be ready or this is going to be a long season. lets just hope that fisher and dinger get this team to rise above the mediocrity that this organazation as a whole strives for... GoTitans3801 07-27-2008, 10:21 PM Got to say, I agree with the concerns about the lack of intensity. Maybe they'll build into it, but it's not a good thing to hear. I'm hoping to make some of the later camp practices, maybe they'll be up for it by then. TitanJeff 07-27-2008, 10:38 PM That all changed today when the shoulder pads went on. Crash Override 07-28-2008, 01:04 AM Without pads it's not showing much, so I guess the players don't want to wear themselves out. |
