The tight ends stood out. Alge Crumpler continues to look like a red zone solution. And in a team period he made an excellent one-handed catch with a spin with linebacker Colin Allred close on him. The soft-spoken Crumpler said afterward he didn't even remember it. A bit later, Dwayne Blakley made a one-handed snag of his own, though not as fancy. Third-rounder Craig Stevens failed to follow suit, letting a ball over the middle squirt right through his hands. Some other highlights: In seven-on-seven work, cornerback Nick Harper made a great play on receiver Justin Gage as he ran a post route, though Harper will probably kick himself when he sees it on film because he had a chance to corral a nice interception. Linebacker Stephen Tulloch continues to shine. He's not much of a leaper, but he did what he needed to in order to rise and grab a Kerry Collins pass intended for Biren Ealy in red zone seven-on-seven. Tulloch landed on his back, but got up and took off. Also, Receiver Roydell Williams is off the PUP list and took a step in his comeback from a broken right ankle suffered as the Titans got ready for their playoff game in San Diego last season. He went through the individual period with receivers and ran some one-on-one routes and this afternoon he expects to add on seven-on-seven. He's developed a bit of a reputation for needing to feel good to play well, but won't be able to do that this year as the recovery comes with a degree of pain until pins are removed after the season. "Most likely I'll have to play with a little pain, but in the NFL it's more of what you can play with," he said. "Everyone is hurting out there. You just have to suck it up and go out and play. Pretty much every year I've been nicked up. That's one of the things I've learned to do is just deal with the pain." His straight ahead speed is fine, he's still working on getting in and out of his breaks. He's missed a lot of time with new coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, and Justin McCareins has inherited Williams' starting slot from last season, though McCareins is currently out with a hamstring issue. That play overshadowed many others that Crumpler had Monday, including three touchdown receptions during team drills." that's almost as many tds as we had all of last year! Crumpler might have made an even bigger play later on. Quarterback Vince Young, after a series of inconsistent throws in seven-on-seven, was sitting by himself on a Gatorade cooler with his head down. Crumpler made his way over to Young, offered some words to the quarterback, then went and caught a touchdown throw on Young’s next pass a few moments later. “It made me look like a good coach. I was trying to tell him to focus on the next play. That was basically it. It's a media world. I knew everybody would be trying to snap pictures and see him with his head down,” Crumpler said" Thanks Alge. Shouldn't Vince know this by now and who the hell is our QB coach? He needs to get his head out of his azz. I'm worried that it appears we haven't seen much in the way of "emotional maturation" with VY as well as performance. reo 08-04-2008, 04:13 PM don't over blow it imo. was a good thing to see crumpler doing but imo its not anything to be worried about. bigtitan53279 08-04-2008, 04:19 PM i love how in the last year or so body language has become so important in football. it's almost all you hear about on shows like nfl live and nfl countdown. utdtitans 08-04-2008, 05:02 PM somehow riverman turns a positive sign into a negative one. I see it as vince now has a veteran leader to help him on offense and you see it as vince is not mature. I don't really care if vince puts his head down after every possession if alge comes over and tells him its ok then goes and throws a td pass. He's going to be a 3rd year qb stop treating him like he's a vet. He's going to be a 3rd year qb stop treating him like he's a vet. A 3rd year starting QB shouldn't be having "moments of self-doubt" with what appears to be pouting session sitting alone on a water cooler. I wasn't there- so I am only reacting to what was written. It isn't a sign of a professional. You don't read of other Titan marquee players (KVB, Bulluck, Roos, etc) doing something similar. And yes- the QB coach SHOULD be the first one over there to Vince and make sure he keeps his attitude right. Like it or not (and I don't), Vince has had about 18 months of less than expected performance. He missed some OTA's while studying and partying. Believe me- I was one of the first on this board pulling for us to draft Vince over Cutler and Leinart. Now back to your point- it is great that Alge took it on himself to intervene. That does make for good chemistry between the two. (Hence- the thank you Alge reference). So my intention is not to smear Vince or cast something negative on the situation- just to call it like I see it. reo 08-04-2008, 10:12 PM everyone is of course just assuming that VY took a knee b/c of his play. Everyone was going down today b/c of the heat... everyone except for KVB that is so it might've been that. Don't think anyone but VY really nows. And Alge who talked to him. reo 08-04-2008, 11:05 PM And Alge who talked to him. what was actually said in the article was this: Crumpler might have made an even bigger play later on. Quarterback Vince Young, after a series of inconsistent throws in seven-on-seven was sitting by himself on a Gatorade cooler with his head down. Crumpler made his way over to Young, offered some words to the quarterback, then went and caught a touchdown throw on Young’s next pass a few moments later. “It made me look like a good coach. I was trying to tell him to focus on the next play. That was basically it. It was media world. I knew everybody would be trying to snap pictures and see him with his head down,” Crumpler said. Young said his frustrations stemmed from the offense’s struggles in the morning practice, including some of his own. “I’m a competitor, and every time I step on that football field, I want to see us compete and work hard to get better. We’re not the type of offense that can come out and relax and take a day off and things like that. I was a little bit frustrated, because we weren’t all, including myself, doing what we needed to be doing in that morning practice,” Young said. now, you can infer that it was something worse than that but that's on you. Crash Override 08-05-2008, 12:19 AM Crumpler is great, you need to support your boys no matter what. The Gloat 08-05-2008, 01:02 AM Vince has really got to get over that cry-baby/pouting act. He really expected the NFL to be a cakewalk like high school and college. Hopefully we don't see any more of that this season. utdtitans 08-05-2008, 01:10 AM I love how our qb gets criticized for getting frustrated when he feels him and his teammates aren't performing up to their potential. I just wish he would stay out there while they were having a bad practice and keep slapping hands with everyone and acting like everythings fine. Gunny 08-05-2008, 05:06 AM Gee sitting down on his own, hang him from the nearest goalpost. notsolegato 08-05-2008, 08:41 AM Gee sitting down on his own, hang him from the nearest goalpost. they tried that....why do you think the goal post snapped? :ha: reo 08-05-2008, 11:49 AM Here's what actually happened: Vince Young stewed after 7-on-7s during the morning practice, upset with the offenses’ intensity. Feeling responsible as a leader, he let his teammates know. “We’re not the type of offense right now for us to come out and relax and take a day off. I was a little bit frustrated because I felt like we weren’t all, including myself, we weren’t all practicing the way we need to be doing in that morning practice,” Young said. “I want to see determination out of each player including myself to go out and practice each day hard.” http://www.titansonline.com/news/newsmain_detail.php?PRKey=5893 Riverman 08-05-2008, 12:00 PM what was actually said in the article was this: .... now, you can infer that it was something worse than that but that's on you. I am inferring that Alge talked to him and Vince talked back. Article said Young felt frustrated with performance of the offense- including his own play. Not that big of a deal except that it motivated Alge enough to go over and give Vince a pep talk and some advice to not make for a bad media opportunity. I love how our qb gets criticized for getting frustrated when he feels him and his teammates aren't performing up to their potential. I just wish he would stay out there while they were having a bad practice and keep slapping hands with everyone and acting like everythings fine. The only criticism I'm offering is when he goes off to sit by himself on a water cooler and apparently pouts. I'm not criticizing him for feeling frustrated- just HOW HE ACTS when he is frustrated. You don't see Bulluck or KVB acting that way when the D isn't executing. My criticism of Young is shared by others- he needs to display a bit more emotional maturity or in other terms- act like a professional. Some of you act like any criticism of Young is heresy: you get all irrational and pull out the pitchforks. The Gloat 08-05-2008, 12:33 PM Butter it up all you want, fellas. Truth is - one of the most important traits of a QB is a short memory. How many times have you seen a great QB pouting by himself hugging the gatorade jug? The good news is that for the most part it sounded as if he had an ok day throwing. utdtitans 08-05-2008, 05:22 PM As has been talked about many times on this board peyton manning is one of the greatest qbs in the league and he pouts more than any of them. He is always over pouting by himself during games. Riverman 08-05-2008, 06:00 PM As has been talked about many times on this board peyton manning is one of the greatest qbs in the league and he pouts more than any of them. He is always over pouting by himself during games. If I was a Colts fan I'd gripe about that through clenched teeth. He did win a Super Bowl, has 5 consecutive division titles, league Co-MVP and numerous other records/titles. Dee 08-08-2008, 08:56 AM Jacob Ford (de, #78) intercepted a pass from Young during the AM/8.4 session (I think it was the am). If anyone has a pic, post it. Thanks in advance. TitanJeff 08-08-2008, 09:25 AM Hi Dee, I don't recall anyone getting a shot of that particular play. But there may be some shots of Ford in the Training Camp section you may like. Click here (http://www.gotitans.com/gallery/browseimages.php?c=79). Dee 08-09-2008, 12:15 AM Thanks. I try to keep a book/e-book of his pics for him, but I haven't been able to find that one anywhere. and of course, my camera didn't catch a clear shot. GoTitans3801 08-11-2008, 04:04 PM If I was a Colts fan I'd gripe about that through clenched teeth. He did win a Super Bowl, has 5 consecutive division titles, league Co-MVP and numerous other records/titles. Correct, and Vince was acting the same way... I don't see why we should criticize him either... Either you care how the QB acts or you don't. I really don't care if he's hard on himself, or the team, it shows that he cares and wants to improve. Just because he gets mad when he doesn't think that he's performing like he should doesn't mean that it will hurt his performance. He may be able to just take a minute and then refocus and improve. I'm fine with that. Everybody should be able to do whatever they need to do to be effective. Maybe it's what works for him... since he went back out there and made some plays. We'll see, but I'm not going to care about body language or whatever. |
