The Rams are in town. Two sessions today.

There should be a lot of coverage today. I wish some of it could be from me but responsibility calls. Please post reports in this thread. There may be some out of St. Louis as well later today.

Titanium will be in attendance taking photos. Those will likely be posted later today here (http://www.gotitans.com/gallery/browseimages.php?c=79).

If anyone else gets a chance to go out, please leave us your thoughts in this thread.

NASHVILLE - Maybe some of the St. Louis' short throws would have turned into big gains in a game situation. But in a joint-practice situation, those completions that are such a big part of what the Rams do were hardly the highlight.

I thought Tennessee's defense manhandled the Rams for the most part, and the Titans set the tone in that side of practice this morning. They got the better of most of the fights, too.

A run down out of my notebook:

I watched a lot of Albert Haynesworth versus former Titans Jacob Bell. Bell did pretty well in the big one-on-one matchup. In nine-on-seven and team drills he got a lot of help from tackle Adam Goldberg as the Rams sometime neutralized Haynesworth at the expense of leaving Kyle Vanden Bosch with matchups he could win.

Torry Holt caught a pass over the middle and got leveled by Calvin Lowry, who popped his helmet off. The official nearby told Holt: "If you buckled your chin strap, that wouldn't happen."

Reserve defensive back Chris Carr had a good morning running as the second team left corner, getting his hands on multiple balls and delivering a few nice hits, including one in run support on back Travis Minor.

Corner Cortland Finnegan went for a sideline kill shot on Holt on a short ball and missed, flying by.

Linebacker Stephen Tulloch continues to make flashy plays. He leveled Keenan Burton. And after a big stick on Randy McMichael, the tight end popped up and threw the ball in to Tulloch's back as he walked away.

DB Vincent Fuller pulled in two interceptions, both of Brock Berlin. On the first, Fuller timed it up beautifully, jumping a short pass for Shaine Smith on the sideline in the red zone. It would have a touchdown return for sure.

During a field goal period, Titans special teams coach Alan Lowry pointed out to an official that Rams long snapper Chris Massey was flinching and tensing his arms before the snap to try to prompt someone to jump.

Vanden Bosch was frustrated after he worked part of a two-man rush in the one-on-one period, as guard Roy Schuening pushed him back and forced him to take a lengthy looping route to the quarterback.
On to the fights:

Finnegan wrapped receiver Reche Caldwell in his arms and wrestled him to the ground for a scrap. Finnegan has scratches above and below his right eye afterward.

After Michael Griffin crushed Dane Looker, Bulluck and Caldwell went at it. Bulluck's one-two swipe took off Caldwell's helmet. "It's his third team in two years, that's what I told him," Bulluck said.

After Joe Klopfenstein ran under a deep ball down the middle and into the end zone on a play where the Titans busted coverage, a big bout broke out near the sideline at the line of scrimmage - Vanden Bosch and Goldberg's fight spilled into a full-team melee. Both teams were huddled up as their coaches tried to calm things down.

Rams tackle Mark LeVoir and Titans end Sean Conover weren't finished however, and went at it with LeVoir getting the upper hand. Vanden Bosch, who wasn't in the play and didn't have his helmet on, came flying in as support staff.
Holt's take on all the extracurriculars:
"As excessive as that got, it does take away from the work, now you're totally getting away from your technique and what you're trying to do as a football team. But as far as the mixing it up and the physicality, I think it's great for both football teams. Your macho comes out and you see where you are. There is some give and take there, but we were able to settle those differences and finish up on a good note."

Just got back from practice. I will have photos up in a little while.

They had the Ram's offense going against our defense on one field, then our offense going against the Ram's defense on the other field. So I was doing a lot of walking today.

I didn't see LenDale on the field. Has anyone heard anything?

Very intense practice with our defense against the Rams offense. Lot's of "scuffles" out there today. KVB was very vocal. He was continually yelling "come on Defense!"

Roydell had a sweet catch, but you can tell his is having to play in pain. He looks great to me out there though. I just have to wonder how much he's going to be able to play with that injury.

They had Craig Hentrich kicking field goals the whole time I was watching some special teams work. I didn't see Bironas anywhere.

Chris Johnson is the real deal. They used him a lot in short passing situations and he took almost all of the reps (that I saw) with the first team offense.

I thought Vince looked ok today. He had some nice passes, but it was still far from a "real game" situation so I'd like to see more of an 11 on 11 with him against the Rams. Maybe they'll do that this afternoon.

Crumpler is a load and Vince seems to zero in on him. Me seems to think we'll see more TE action this year.

Drew Bennett had a nice catch against us, but some were yelling that it was out of bounds. He definitely received some grief from players in Titan blue ;)

I would say overall, our guys intensity was much higher than the Rams. Our guys looked like they were ready to hit someone. The Rams looked like they were just going through the drills to me. Maybe I'm biast, but all of the yelling and hard hitting was coming from our players and staff.

They stopped practicing at 10:00am. I thought that was a little short, but I'm sure the guys appreciated it ;)

With my eye glued behind the camera I tend to miss a lot of who's doing what and how well. So anyone that attended practice please throw your 2 cents in to help us out :)

That mouth and his New York attitude....I tell you. I'm seriously surprised that he doesn't get in a fight on a daily basis or at least punched in the mouth by those who are around him:brow:. However, he is a good guy with a good sense of humor, actually some of the insults or jibes that he says sound really funny.

Now as for young Mr. Tulloch, he needs to calm his butt down. He lights up his own teammates at times, he's doing too much. I like him and all, but he's just too crunk at times.:sad2: When I saw Kyle mixing it up, I knew something was up.:irked: The defense is already hyped up with talk of them being as dominant as the team from '99. They've all got a swagger and are talking about never letting up, playing hungry, mean, etc.

Definitely a lot to like about the way our defense is looking. Glad to hear the offense is turning some heads here and there - especially Crumpler. If Vince can keep steady improvement, and rely heavily on Crumpler when he gets into trouble or is having an off day we'll do alright. I think as long as he doesn't feel like he's got to force anything VY will be able to get the job done. He's not going to hit those 40 yard bombs consistently quite yet, but it's good to hear that he did today.

Love to hear Hawkins getting into the action. It'd be nice to have a rookie WR make an impact for once.

I got there late today so i didn't get to see much. PW, Hawkins and Gage made some nice catches. VY looked sharp. During 7v7 PW made a nice over the shoulder grab down the sideline, sort of tipping it to himself before going out and then later fought around the corner on a comeback route and sort of dove to the side to make a nice catch w/ his arms extended. seems like he's always making nice catches.

VY placed a nice over the shoulder pass to Hall in the endzone but it was hall :D he got a hand on it but couldn't bring it in. thought it was interesting route to send hall on though. saw him lined up out wide a couple times too.

Not much there really but I thought this was funny:

One source for a lot of the passion was Tennessee defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch. This guy looks exactly like the character who played “Meanie,” the hard hitting guy in the movie “The Waterboy.” And oh by the way, Vanden Bosch is insane. He was squealing and yelling all over the place. For what it’s worth, when I say insane I mean he’s a wonderful man and I hope he doesn’t hurt me.

Vanden Bosch is mostly known for his non stop motor and his propensity for sprinting down the field after ball carriers well after the play is over. At one point, he chased Travis Minor down about 40 yards down field and tried to strip the ball out. Safe to say, he sets a pretty good example for the younger Titans

Before practice really started I went to try and find a roster sheet by asking a security guy along the fence. Well Jacob Bell comes over to the fence and a guy comes up and gives him a big hi-five. When I look at the guy I realize it is Drew Rosenhaus. Drew and Jacob shoot the **** about what Jacob has been doing this summer. Turns out Bell took a trip to Sweden where he was a big hit with the women. Drew asked him how AH was treating him and whether he was treating him with respect. Bell said that AH has always had respect for his game. After Bell left some TV guy who didn't recognize Rosenhaus asked him if he was a Rams fan because he wanted to interview some. Drew said he was a fan of every team because he was an agent for 154 players. The TV guy still didn't seem to have a clue who he was talking with. Rosenhaus seemed like a nice guy. Said he tries to visit every camp. I didn't realize that Tulloch is one of his clients.

Things that stuck out to me:

Chris Johnson had a few really nice runs both between the tackles and on the outside. On one play he had a huge cut back lane which he hit and right after he got through the hole the Rams safety nailed him. First time I've seen a defensive guy wrap him up. When they were working going into the endzone they spread the field with 3 WRs and then ran CJ up the middle. He got to the 2nd level and made a LBer look foolish and was in the endzone in a flash.

C. Henry had a few nice runs, but caught the ire of Dinger when on one play he got stuffed in the backfield and fumbled the ball. Carriker destroyed Otto on the play and CH had no chance, but he still should have held onto the ball.

Although VY might have completed a bunch of passes his timing and accuracy at the beginning of 11 on 11 wasn't great. Not hitting WRs/TEs in stride and making guys work to make the catch on some low throws. They did run a few bootlegs which was good to see.

Kearse appeared to hurt his right knee to me or it is still just bothering him because after one play when he got stonewalled he had more of a limp and didn't participate much more.

Hayes had a chance to make an INT. We ran a LBer blitz and dropped Hayes off into coverage. He was about 10 yds into the secondary and the pass hit him right in the numbers. A few plays later he got a "that a boy" from Washburn as he beat a guy around the edge and finished strong to the QB.

Nickey cheap shotted a Rams TE after he made a catch down the seam and had taken a few steps and was slowing down. Nickey just layed into him hitting him up high.

Bulger looked good. He just makes such quick decisions and throws such an accurate ball.

I did see Chris Johnson fielding punts and he caught the ball smoothly the one I saw. I saw Hawkins miss judge a punt and he let it hit a few yds in front of him.

I think we need to keep an extra DL because I doubt Kearse is going to last the season. I'm worried about him. I also won't be surprised if we don't pick up another RB. Lendale is staying nicked up and CH has done nothing to show he can be a reliable backup.

I love at least one of CJ's nice runs was straight up the gut - juked a LB and took it in. I really didn't think we'd be able to use him that way - Reggie Bush has struggled as a RB. But if CJ can really go inside, outside and run routes, he and Vince in the backfield could be tough to defend. On a bootleg with VY rolling out and CJ getting into the flat - who do you take? Add Crumpler in to keep the LBs from cheating up and we could have a pretty solid offense. Just need Lendale to be able to shoulder some load, which is looking like a question mark. He's shown he can play hurt, but we need better than that.

Sounds like VY might be putting it together, awesome. Good for him, the Titans will go as far as VY takes them. Definitely sounds like the work is paying off, i'd like to see more shots 12+ downfield, and not as many dump-offs. I'm getting excited!
