Adams Wants Fisher to Remain Titans Coach
SUMMARY: Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams has no intentions of firing Jeff Fisher but is expecting more from his team in 2010. "Jeff has two more years on his contract, and the way things are going, we are going to be pleased to have him here for the next two years and more years than that down the road," Adams said. By winning eight of the final 10 games, the Titans ended up becoming the first team in NFL history to start 0-6 and finish 8-8. And that, in Adams' mind, overshadowed the fact the Titans haven't won a playoff game since the 2003 season. "Fisher is going to get it going for us because he has been a good coach for us all of these years," Adams said. "I don't see any changes coming up. We ended up with a good year when all was said and done, and I am pleased with what happened."

A theory I want to share for opinion...
Bud Adams won't fire Fisher even though he hasn't won a playoff game since '03 because it's a risk. Though the next guy might take the team to the Super Bowl, he may also pull a Zorn and set the franchise back a few seasons.
Yes, I realize Bud's history indicates otherwise but hear me out.
Bud knows what he has in Fisher. There is comfort there. And we need to remember that the NFL is in the entertainment biz. In a time when his other businesses are feeling the impact of the economy, Fisher sells plenty of Bud's $8 beers because his history shows he's going to usually win more than he loses and that's enough to keep the carrot tangled.
I also think this may be why we'll never see Fisher change his philosophy. It's proven to maintain a certain level of success even though it doesn't get it done in January.
I won't go as far as saying Adams and Fisher are content with mediocrity because much of their legacy is going to be tied to how many times they win the big one. But there's no doubt that things were set up in Tennessee so that less has to be achieved on the field for the franchise to remain successful. Fisher keeps the franchise above the threshold enough that it'll take a lot more than missing the playoffs for a couple of seasons for Bud to make a change.
And, who knows? The stars may align and Lady Luck smiles upon the Titans and they actually do win a Super Bowl. But history continues to repeat itself for the Titans and I'm thinking that's good enough in the eyes of both Bud Adams and Jeff Fisher.
Just a theory.

i knew this would happen... i called it in a thread a while back, medicoracy is enuff in this town . i knew when we started winning it would save his job, 8-2 to finish the season would be more than enuff.
sad... sad... sad....
here's another bold prediction... we do very little in the offseason, keep the old, cheap, and tired vets, and have another 8-8 or 9-7 season....wind up 3 in division
guess it could be worse, we could be the browns or the lions

Bud's too old to be changing. Old people like things to remain as they are. Very few of them are up to new challenges and new ways of thinking. So Fisher's job will be safe as long as Bud is alive and we will have to suffer through several more years of fair to middlin football.

Jeff,
That is the saddest theory I have ever read on here. I mean when I read it, I get so pissed off. The reason is that I know deep down that it is probably true and that sucks. Not that they don't want to win the big one but they are only going to take so much risk to do so mainly because they know that the mediocrity they have delivered has given them a good comfortable level of lifestyle. I mean what if you took that next step and actually won it all. Then you got real trouble because you set a whole new expectation level for the fans which means that you have a couple of faltering seasons after that and you may not sell out the stadium in the blink of the eye it takes now (it may take 3o minutes).
Anyway, something needs to change. Our defense sucked at crucial times and our offense while it improved left something to be desired. The whole chris johnson thing bothers the crap out of me as well. Don't get me wrong, I think he's great but I felt a big part of our success the year before on O was because we pounded the ball with two different backs which wore d lines out typically much quicker. Yes cj was great but how many times did drives stop because that series wasn't the series that cj busted out. Besides all that, I think you unnecessarily shorten someone's career by going that direction especially when you had another good back on your bench.

Someone had to fulfill the legacy of Marty Shottenheimer. I wonder who will have a better playoff record. Jfish or Mshot?

You didn't call a damn thing everybody knew that fisher was not going to be fired.
So who is the awesome stud coach that is guarenteed to be better? Cowher is not coaching this year and Shanahan is with the skins so please tell us what coaching hire guarantees a super bowl.

Well this off-season is off to a disappointing start so far...sort of like the last year (0-6).
Expectations for next season are dramatically lower now...I see 8-8, maybe....

way to quote what you want to fit your agruement.... lame
i never said i called it on him not gettin canned, i called it on why... i knew when they winning started he was saved. it says in the article, the 8-2 finish saved him.... and i highly doubt "everyone knew that fisher was not to be fired" nice try though
i never said i or anyone can guarantee the next stud superbowl coach... but i promise you i can pick the next one and done, barely .500, medicore coach
your stuck in the past, period... you even site old RETIRED coaches. if you paid attention to recent coaches youd see there's plenty of cases of "new" coaches doing quite well. lets not pretend that a new coach equals anymore than a change. no one knows for sure what a coaching change will yield, but many people are ready for that change.
there is life after fisher...you'll live
