The Titans have two seasons in which to decide whether or not to give Britt a longterm deal.

Let's say Britt is healthy for 12-14 games this season, is showing a lot of the stuff he did before the ACL and keeps his nose clean—the Titans probably will franchise him for one season to see if it's a fluke. Britt will not be happy with the tag but they can handle this as they did Haynesworth and guarantee it'll only be for one season.

If he shows it isn't a fluke, they can start negotiations towards a long-term deal during the franchise season.

I simply made an example of the type of contract I was talking about. I wasn't basing it on an actual salary.

I'm showing a way to sign a risky player to a long term deal. What do the Titans have to lose by negotiating?

    I like your example.

Wasn't thinking about the franchise tag.

If Britt has a breakout season and Locker shows promise it would be worth bringing Britt back for a long term deal.

No kidding you're not a contract expert if you think there's even a 0.0000001% chance Britt would sign a long-term deal for that little money. That's pennies. Any agent that let him sign for that little would never see work in the NFL ever again.

Jeez. Why don't the Titans just go out and lock up every player on the roster for 5 years and $2 million per. Become the first team in NFL history to be $100 million under the salary cap. That's about as realistic as what you're proposing.

    It was a contract example.

It's a moot point though because no player would ever sign a contract like that. Ever.

Why not? If the player wanted cash now, hadn't put together a great season, and wanted some long term stability it would make sense.

Hell, I'm sure many younger players would love a contract like that.

Their agents might not, but maybe agents are part of the problem.

Really? The fact that no players ever sign contracts as terrible as that is pretty convincing evidence that no player is that stupid.

That's not evidence that's your opinion.

Do you know how many teams have offered contracts like that?

It's not stupid to take guaranteed money when your never know how your career will pan out. The contract could become more lucrative than guaranteed base money if he performs to the level he's capable of.

I'd play for a contract like that and I'm pretty sure a lot of other posters on here would. Not every player is a Chris Johnson or Aaron Rodgers. Some are just hungry for a chance to play football.

Not stupid at all Einstein. The bigger issue is whether or not he wants to stay in TN.

Britt has no incentive to sign a below market deal 1 yr before free agency, especially when holis stock is down.
