True. I think the later album slumps comes from being busy. Before, they were starving and had all the time in the world to the point they had too many songs for a debut album. So the 2nd is usually solid too.

But then they blow up, constantly on tour, at events, never have the time to sit down and write- plus their stomach doesn't depend on it like it used to.

Some just like to "progress" and be different then their earlier selves as well. I can appreciate and respect that but doesn't mean I'll listen to it.

True. They start feeling themselves and think they can fart into a microphone and people will see it as pure magic.

I am old and always snobby, but I also know my tricks when it comes to music and the culture.
My "era" was the 80's but I do not limit my love of great music to that decade so the argument is bunk. 50's 60's 70's 80's and 90's were the greater decades of pop/rock/rb/country (inclusive)
Music has declined since 2000 and is pretty much broken now.
Yeah sure you can find some decent underground stuff on Spotify but as a whole, music and pop culture of today is F'd beyond repair.

    Some things to ponder..
    - You will never see another Ramones or Sex Pistols
    - You will never see another MoTown
    - You will never see another Johnny Cash or Elvis
    - and you probably will never see another Michael Jackson or Metallica
All of these transcended the music culture of their times.
Everything now is cliquey, cloned or compromised to some degree and no amount of Spotify can fix that..

Never understood the love for Johnny Cash or Elvis.

Elvis was a drunk karaoke singer that wouldn't be taken seriously at all in today's era.

If Cash played in today's era, he'd be just another boring white guy with an acoustic guitar. His best song is a cover.

In fact, a lot of these legendary artists ARE LUCKY they played in their era because there's no other way they would have been considered great.

Sorry, someone had to say it.

Yet TONS of artists today could go back in time and replace any of the people you mentioned.

The industry changed. The talent didn't.

And... a Johnny Cash today would be booed out of karaoke joints. Much less sell a record. He's lucky he was around when charisma and a good voice meant very little.

By the way- we have a better Michael Jackson today-

*hears good song* "wow, this is a really good song!"

*realizes it's kinda popular* "Never mind, this song is garbage!"

*hears Usher on the radio* "You call this music? You guys need to listen to some Al Green and Otis Redding, those guys actually had soul.

*doesn't actually know any Al Green or Otis Redding songs*

    BOOoooooOOOOOOO!

Chris Brown only beat up ONE woman.

Which could be why people think musicians aren't as talented these days...

Bobby Brown beat up a woman like 20 times a month.
