    Observations from Friday’s OTA:
    • Quarterback Jake Locker isn’t being held back following offseason shoulder surgery. He was turned loose on Friday, and looked good for the most part. Locker was intercepted by linebacker Tim Shaw early in 7-on-7 drills, and one of his deep balls was underthrown. But he also made some nice throws, including some on the run.
    • New receivers coach Shawn Jefferson lit a fire under his receivers, and he’s been doing so all offseason. Jefferson, a former NFL receiver, coaches with a passion. He was decked out in cleats on Friday, and sprinted onto the field and into the middle of the action on several plays to get in a receiver’s ear, shouting instructions to “Go” or “Get up!.” He’s also implemented new drills for the receivers.
    • Veteran receiver Nate Washington dismissed April’s speculation about him being on the trade market, and on Friday he looked like the best receiver on the team. Washington made two impressive catches, one by leaping over a defender and another when he caught a ball while diving to the ground.
    • Judging from practice, and listening to Coach Mike Munchak, it appears plenty of starting spots will be up for grabs this offseason. At middle linebacker, Moise Fokou worked with the first group ahead of Colin McCarthy. Munchak said McCarthy is smack dab in the middle of the team’s plans, but noted players are going to have to win starting jobs with a good offseason.
    • Rookie cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson will bring a physical presence to the defense, and that was evident right off the bat. On two separate occasions offensive players went down after colliding with Wreh-Wilson during what’s supposed to be non-contact work. The contact appeared to be incidental, but Wreh-Wilson was noticeable.
    • So much for senior assistant/defense Gregg Williams keeping a low profile. Williams could hardly be heard during rookie orientation a few weeks ago, but on Friday he was especially vocal. Williams let a player know when he screwed up, but also shouted his approval on others.
    • Receiver Kendall Wright is about 12-15 pounds lighter than he was last season, and he looks it. He made a nice catch across the middle in drills, and outraced everyone to the end zone.
    • Cornerback Tommie Campbell is going to be a factor in the battle for the outside spot. Campbell made a nice interception on Friday when he took the ball away from receiver Kenny Britt on the sideline downfield.

I'd love for Campbell to step up so they'd have the option of moving Verner to nickel.

Campbell, Wreh-Wilson, Wooten - I don't care, just one of them.

Not sure how much I'd look in to McCarthy not being with the first stringers.

    Interesting though.

They are letting McCarthy play at that position where he doesn't get hurt. What is that position called again? lol

The thing to remember about OTAs and training camp is that there's always going to be a lot of shuffling so don't read anything into anything.

McCarthy is the starting MLB but they need to get Fokou reps so he can learn the scheme. Once that happens, they can better evaluate him in training camp and know whether or not they need to look at other options.

Good to hear about the young DBs and Wright's burst.

We need a physical presence like Wreh-Wilson or Campbell to step up. Wright sounds good. Interesting about Fokou. Glad to hear Williams is being vocal

I'm hoping Campbell earns the spot. He was the rookie I was rooting for when their class 1st came in. Has a good story behind him. I'm hoping he shakes off the rookie mistakes and comes up in a big way on defense. He's 6'3" and can run a 4.3. He could possibly turn into a great press man corner.
