Titans linebacker Jonathan Willard reports to training camp with the team on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, he showed up just in time to be a hero.

Willard was on his way from South Carolina to Nashville on Tuesday when encountered a vehicle on Interstate 40 with smoke coming from under its hood. Willard signaled for the driver to pull over, and the vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames on the side of the road, he told TigerNet.com, the official web site for Clemson University.

Willard finished his playing career at Clemson last fall.

Willard told the web site he and another passerby pulled the mother, her three young children and dog from the burning vehicle.

“I was just glad that we got the kids and all of them out of the car,” he told Tigernet.com. “I was thinking that I was just doing what everybody else would do, but there were cars just going past us and no one else was stopping, so I don’t know if that is what would happen or not.”

Willard, signed by the Titans after the NFL Draft, said the victim was extremely grateful for his help.

“She just kept thanking me,’’ he said. “That car was just gone. It went up quick.”

The media won't report on this like they did with George Zimmerman.

I bet if he played for the Patriots they would report it.

    Bias against small markets.

I bet this does get some coverage (not much), Clemson player now chasing the NFL dream, saves a family on his way to camp.. that's worth a few seconds airtime to me, even if he is a undrafted player

Seems it should start with the local markets doing a story.

    That car is toast

This courageous act could really set us up for some good things. It's a feel good story, and its the right kind of energy youre looking for heading to day-1 of the season.

I remember when Buds wife passed, I was hopeful the team would win in her honor, but deaths give off bad vibes, the season was a waste. Not entirely sure that was the reason, but same with McNairs death, nothing came of it.

This story however, is great stuff, exciting. I bet all the guys feed off this news.
