Some fans and football analysis alike have talked about reducing the pre-season down to two games per year as oppose to four. Is it better for NFL teams to keep the current format, or reduce it down to two and add two more games to the existing 16 game schedule???

I'd rather just keep it the way it is honestly. Its already hard as hell for UDFA to make an impression and harder to find ones worth keeping. Don't take away that tool.

I also don't like the idea of adding more games. It makes the beginning of the season even less important, plus the add in the potential of players getting hurt/exhausted and what not and I don't like the idea of records getting broken just because someone grinds through it.

Finally a decent thread. I like the 4 games. It gives team a better chance to evaluate all their talent in game situations. I like the stories of the undrafted guys going on to big things (except Foster, screw that guy) and maybe with fewer preseason games these guys will lose their opportunity.

then they should take it up with the front office, sounds more like a poor investment to me.

The problem I have with a 18 game schedule is rather simple... who would the other two games be against? Right now the NFL format is 6/16 games against your division, 4/16 games against an AFC conference, 4/16 against an NFC conference, and 2/16 against what ever team finished in the sames place as you did last season in the two AFC/NFC division you didn't play. That make sense to me and it logically works out.

The reason the NFL wants to eliminate two preseason games is to bring in more ad revenue to the NFL. Right now people do not watch a ton of the preseason so that means the NFL cannot charge at a premium for ad time for 4 weeks. They have disguised their greed by claiming they think it is unfair for PSL holders to pay full price for an inferior product but if that was their concern they could just make preseason games cost less then regular season games in a PSL, and which will never happen.
