A year after suffering a horrific leg injury in last year’s preseason, Titans return man Marc Mariani was finally feeling like himself again.

Now, he he’s dealing with another setback , and more frustration.

Mariani suffered a shoulder injury in Thursday’s game against the Redskins. Coach Mike Munchak said on Saturday he expects Mariani to miss several weeks, a development that certainly hurts his chances of making the team’s 53-man roster.

“You get thrown challenges that kind of test you a little bit, and this is one of them. I had a lot of time to think about my leg … and to work that hard, it’s tough. This is definitely going to be a hurdle for me, but it is one of those things I have to deal with and man up and do what the doctors tell me,’’ Mariani said.

“Timing is brutal sometimes. I am frustrated and I feel like things were going really well and the leg was feeling better every day. It is just a setback I have to deal with. I don’t have any other choice at this point.”

Mariani broke the leg last August while being tackled on a return.

He suffered the shoulder injury while making a block against the Redskins. Tests on the shoulder revealed no structural damage, but he’ll have to be held out with what Munchak described a severe bruise. Mariani returned two punts against the Redskins, along with a 32-yard kickoff return.

He’s competing for a spot on the roster after spending last season on Injured Reserve.

“It is disappointing for all he has accomplished and how good he looked in the game. It is hard,’’ Munchak said. “We were hoping it was going to be a day to day thing but it is pretty sore, so it’s going to take a while.”

NFL teams must trim rosters to 53 players by August 31.

Mariani said he’ll try and get the shoulder healthy enough to return to the field as fast as possible.

“It’s tough, and it’s a little bit frustrating because nothing crazy happened, it was just a football play,’’ he said. “It was just a blocking drill and it’s a play that happens a couple of times a game and I just got hit awkwardly, or something. We can’t even figure out why.

“It’s just kind of bad timing I guess. I just have to keep my spirits up.”
