There are like 3 or maybe 4 people on this entire site who actually have a grounded, realistic sense of trade values in the NFL.

    Hunter for a 1st-rounder?

Britt for anything more than a 7th?

    LOLOLOL.

it's the classic scenario we see all the time. A guy they are willing to dump should be of great value to somebody else.

We could trade Britt today for a 4th at worst.

Remember also that when we were trying to get a deal for Washington it was before the draft so whomever we might have drafted with that pick could have potentially benefited the team this year.

He's old, but he's still a great player. He'll probably play 3 more years, will Kenny Britt be here in 3 years.....

Nope. Expiring contract. Teams don't trade mid-round picks for rentals. And if they did, it would be for more reliable players than Britt,

Even of we traded Britt for a 4th right now would it be worth it for us?

We don't draft that player until April and even if that 4th rd pick is a good one like Verner or McCarthy most likely they don't see any significant action until 2015.What if it is a bust like the many wasted mid rd picks we have had over the years?

In the meantime we go without Britt's services this season and also next because we would tag him if he plays well.

What is the point of that for a team that desperately wants to win now?

This could be another AH situation where we could get 2 great years out of him as he plays for a big contract and then somebody else pay him big money after.

In the meantime if Hunter looks like the stud we want him to be we could jettison Britt, D-Will or Washington next year.

I was in no way suggesting we should trade Britt for a 4th. He could be far more valuable that that to us. I just think we could.

We let Britt play this year. We tag him next year, and let him walk in 2015. Then we get a compensatory pick for him leaving. It's better than trading him. We get to use him for the next two years and effectively trade him to the league for a draft pick.
