I went with 3rd down completion percentage. If you keep moving the chains, you control the ballgame and you get closer to scoring. Points win games. It's all a simple science, really.

I voted TOP. But really, most of those stats all tie into TOP in some way or another.

Time of Possession is what killed this team last year.Dead last in NFL time of possesion which in turn had our defense on the field way too long which is why we were last in NFL defense as well.So time of possession is very important because it means our offense is moving the ball which also gives our defense a breather instead of them being stuck on the field all day.

Yea but imagine if Troy Polumalu didn't drop an interception, and think about what if Delanie Walker doesn't recover his fumble, those are game breakers for us IMO.

    Or Verner's pick.

If those 3 plays go any different than they did, we probably drop that game.

I know what you're saying but turnovers are all contingent on the other team making a mistake. You can't control them (for the most part). You can, however, control the game by keeping the chains moving. If all of the offense executes perfectly, you have the power to do whatever you want with the ball. You can't always rely on turnovers to be there because even against the most terrible teams, sometimes turnovers are just hard to come by.

Going off the poll and saying defense 3rd down conversions. We did a nice job with the Steelers after their first time and stopping 3rd downs means more ToP for us. RZ efficiency is right behind, we need TDs not FGs this year.

I think TOP may be overate in some aspects. I know many people will disagree with me on this but I have a few points here to make. A few years ago Miami controlled the game vs the colts, I believe Miami had the ball for about 45 minutes and the colts only had the ball for 3 drives... but they scored TD's on every drive and won the game. As long as we minimize mistakes, and put the ball in the end zone, we can win this game

What people dont seem to pick-up on is last year we were severely undersized upfront, now things are different and we can bang with the big boys. Thats huge for a football team, games are won in the trenches so no one better be looking at least years tape this week looking for a reason to say we can't win in Houston.

Turnover ratio is the winner. They actually have or used to have a chart showing each +1 in turnover resulted in a certain% to win the game. once you hit +3, your chance to win is very high and if you're on the other end (-3), your chance to win is very low. The other stats don't have such correlation.

Keep in mind, when a team turns the ball over, it is a defensive stop, gives the offense an extra possession, can mean a lost scoring chance for the other team or a great scoring chance for your team.

JCBrave is right, had the turnovers in that game gone differently, we could have had a VERY different outcome....even with the defense playing exceptional, the defensive 3rd down conversion awesome, our 3rd down conversion solid and a great TOP. That's because with a turnover, you can potentially kick the gamewinning fg without affecting any other stat.

By the way, there are some other rather important stats which aren't brought up in this poll. perhaps we will discuss those at another time though 2 of them were evident in our win over the Steelers;)
