I'm old. Love Ronnie Lott but I was already in my mid-teens when he came into the league. Lawrence Taylor was probably the most dominant player I've seen in my lifetime, but again I was 16 when he first played... for actual childhood football heroes, if I had to name just one, it'd be this guy...

They called him the Assassin. :)

Yup. Alex isn't the only member older than dirt here.

Back when I played, everyone got only one bar on their face mask and we were happy to get that.

I've always been partial to watching powerful defenses because one of the first seasons i remember watching was the 1985 Chicago Bears and their games showed up a lot on TV that year.Never before or since have i seen such a dominant defense in fact one game the Bears beat the Cowboys 44-0 and it seemed like every week they destroyed their opponent.I did enjoy watching offenses like the Oilers run-n-shoot and i loved Detroit when Barry Sanders played there.I'll never forget in the late 80's on three different occasions watching Denver beat Cleveland to win the AFC and go to the Super Bowl. That one playoff game in 1987 in the snow between Denver and Cleveland when Elway embarked on his now-famous 98-yard march downfield, which is now known by NFL historians as 'The Drive'.With a few seconds left Elway tied in then the Broncos kicked a field goal to win in overtime. The very next year in 1988 in an AFC championship rematch with barely a minute left with eight yards to go for a TD Ernest Byner fumbled the Browns chances away and the lost again in a close heartbreaker 38-33.Of course who can forget the 1993 Thanksgiving snow game between Miami and Dallas that was definitely a bizarre contest.
