Because it was an obvious step in the wrong direction and I didn't want you guys to get your hopes up. If the guy was good, he would have already been working in the NFL... Even guys like Marvin Lewis keep jobs in the NFL when their teams suck for long periods of time.

Everywhere he has been the coach of more than one person, he has failed. Munch was unproven and I felt like he needed to be a Coordinator before being a HC. At least for a few seasons even if he was OC here in TN but that is doubtful because a new coach would want his own guys. On paper, Gray wasn't a terrible hire... but paper doesn't win championships unfortunately. If that were the case, the jets and skins or cowboys would be in the SB

Sure, he was Eli Manning's QB coach that year they were barely over 500 and had an easy road to the Superbowl. Him being Eli Manning's position coach didn't all of a sudden mean that the Giants Defense line started playing better because that is how they won that Superbowl that year.

I hated the hire but wanted to give Munch a chance. I did. And it was apparent even last year that he was way in over his head. Fine. First time HC, lockout, all that jazz. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Then this year the team as a whole takes a gigantic step back (when this staff has a full offseason to "work" with them and instill more of their own philosophies.... strange).

It's quite clear we are on the wrong track. Munchak is in fact a scrub. I don't see the point in letting him finish out his contract. It would only put us yet another year behind from fielding a truly competitive team. If he coaches this team in 2013 and then is fired/not renewed that means we'd have Locker entering his 4th year and having to learn an entirely new system. Then there's going to be a whole learning process with that.

I'm so sick of always waiting. I say fire the entire staff and start over, the RIGHT way. If we suck in 2013 then so be it. As long as we're on the right track it won't bother me much.

I like that Munch fired Palmer. I was surprised he made the move in-season. But the timing of it, coming after losing a "must-win" against a terrible 1-win team, leads me to believe this was simply a CYA move. Something had to give after that one. For the fans like me who were already disenchanted with Munch, the loss was a great big "told ya so". And for the fans who still had faith, it was yet another crushing disappointment. Yet another loss to a truly AWFUL team that effectively ended our season (2nd time in as many years that's happened).

I like Munch as a person. And I don't doubt his knowledge of X's and O's. But to me it's clear as day that he has major issues with motivation and getting his team ready to play on Sundays. And that's a huge problem. The dude's just not cut out to be a HC.

If we retain him for 2013 I'll be wishing him the best. But I'll be here to say "told ya so" yet again when he inevitably fails.

Completely agree with your whole post. I don't think munch is bad at x's and o's however I think he needed more time to develop as a coach and be around a different variety of coaches on different teams before he became an NFL head coach. I think he got his chance just a little to early because if he were an OC at another place, he probably could have brought in a better supporting cast to his first head coaching job rather than the scrubs I feel like he was forced to sign.

Munchaks next gig will be in college or O line coach in NFL

About time to resurrect this thread. Absolutely uninspired play calling on offense. A "run first" offense in 2013 doesn't make much sense in today's NFL. Defenses are not worried at all about how to stop the Titans (3.7 yds/play, only ahead of Jacksonville.)

Every good defensive play this year is an indictment of Jerry Gray's coaching ability the past two years. Williams is a step in the right direction, but I hope he doesn't become head coach.

Do you ever wonder what Bellichick, Harbaugh(s), or Pete Carroll might do with the talent on this team? Would they be satisfied with 8-8?

    Keep hoping for real change!

They have a plethora of talent on offense.
