Could we please stop with this silly excuse?

He's been in the NFL for 3 years.

Stop pretending he just walked out of dorm life.

I can count several QBs from his draft class that are playing better than he is- and then even more that have been in the league for a shorter time.

This "well, he's BASICALLY a 1 yr player..." stuff is nonsense.

Nonsense, maybe. Something to still consider, especially given his recent improvements, absolutely.

I'm not saying let's leave the criticism at home. Nor am I saying we shouldn't compare his last 16 games to Datlons first. We should, and what we'll find is exactly what you're saying: there are better qbs in his class and afterwards that jumped right in and are better.

What I am pointing out, however, is that from his "1st year" to his 2nd (this preseason/last two games) I have seen quite a bit of improvement.

Because this is somewhat complicated, I wanted to remind those that may have overlooked the fact, or at the very least, give them proper perspective. Again, it's not an excuse as much as it is perspective.

    What recent improvements though?

He looks no different to me now than he did the first time he came in to play (vs ATL).

    Got ya, though.

Locker hasn't been in a freezer- he's been in meetings, he's been studying, been reviewing films, interacting with team members, practicing when not injured, been mentored etc.

He is a 3rd year NFL player. You don't hear other players counting time lost to injury against their expectations. Bogus.

And another thing that gripes me. Locker's accuracy is what it is. It isn't going to get any better. His consistency HAS to get better or he's done. He has to be able to remained poised when under pressure to be considered reliable. So far he hasn't. He panicked and jacked that easy slant route. That is why our coaching staff isn't trusting him with higher risk/reward play-calling.

    Against ATL in 2011?

Well I see better decision making from him in terms of when to run and when to throw.
He is sliding instead of trying to get an extra yard.
He is still freaking out in the pocket at times but I felt like he was doing it more so in '11 and '12
He looks like he can take a sack better, ducking and dropping quickly instead of fighting it and getting hit. (That may not be true, but it seems that way)
I think his mechanics look better (Getting the ball out quickly, squaring his shoulders, ect)
I know we haven't thrown a lot of passes but he hasn't turned the ball over so that is a plus as well
And I like to believe all of this makes him a more confident player.

So to me with the above opinions and what I gather around this forum I would say he has improved.

I'm not sure about accuracy but that ball he whipped into Wright's hands was really nice. Maybe it's just about consistency at this point.

It's not that bogus when we knew from the beginning he was a project player that needed a lot of work and you can only get so much of that off the field.

The bigger influences come from in game experience. So yes, only 16 games under his belt is a net worth of 1 year game experience in the NFL any way you slice it. He desperately needs more time on the field.

I completely agree with the accuracy concerns and his in ability to stay consistent. What I'm hoping is that more experience will give us our desired results from him.

How many of the sacks were Locker's fault yesterday?

Lot of money spent on this O-line. Was the problem Locker or pass protection cause I feel like anyone would've been killed on a few of the sacks.

Not that I would expect 95% of you to have any context when it comes to evaluating.... but

    Pressure up the Middle
For any quarterback being able to step into their throws is helpful but for a young guy with a job on the line, as many suspect Jake Locker is, it’s doubly beneficial. Therefore if you go out and spend $7.8M on a guard and then invest the 10th selection of the draft on another you’d hope for a bit of space in front of you when you drop back to pass.

Unfortunately, both Andy Levitre (-3.1) and Chance Warmack (-2.6) allowed far more pressure than any other Titan offensive lineman with 11 of the 15 times Locker had his throwing motion disrupted being their fault. Now this may clearly be some function of the “J.J. Watt Effect” but for Levitre to give up a sack and five hurries and Warmack to be responsible for two sacks and three hurries is far too much.

Damn him for not being superman and having veins full of ice.

What I can't understand is why we don't roll locker out more than we do. I thought we drafted him because of his athleticism in addition to his character.
