I saw him ranked as number one or two as well. He was a steal in the fourth round.

The Titans are making a big change in the middle of their offensive line – rookie Brian Schwenke is taking over at center.

Schwenke, the team’s fourth-round draft pick, will start on Sunday against the 49ers. He replaces veteran Rob Turner, who started the first six games of the season.

“I think he’ll do a great job,’’ coach Mike Munchak said of Schwenke. “We drafted him for a reason, and we thought he was the best center in the draft. I think Rob did a good job, but we think (Brian) has big-time upside and I think now is the time to give him a chance to prove it.”

Schwenke was inactive for the first six weeks of the season after the Titans elected to start the season with Turner, who signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal after playing last season with the Rams.

In recent weeks, with the Titans struggling in the run game, the team began thinking about making a move to Schwenke, who impressed coaches during the offseason before suffering a hamstring injury in camp.

At the same time, Munchak said Turner shouldn’t be blamed for the team’s struggles up front. Running back Chris Johnson has managed just 71 yards in the past three games combined.

“It is not a Rob thing,’’ Munchak said. “We just are not playing the way we think we are capable of playing and sometimes it is just about making a change. … Brian is very healthy now and the timing makes sense.

“We need to get someone else out there and I think he’ll do a great job. There’s always risk involved any time you make changes, but we thought this was necessary.”

Most sites had him ranked 2nd, but this was the only credible one I could post.

    Word.

Hard for me to argue with this one.

Anyway- thing is, he's not a Center for starters. He's a guard. So it's going to be tough for him.

I'm all for the switch. I just don't expect much more from Schwenke than we already had...

Definitely worth a shot though, and good to see the staff switching things up.

As long as he knows how to properly execute a shotgun snap I'll be satisfied.

2nd ranked, and how many centers in this league are actually bigger?

Right now, Turner is ranked as one of the worst centers in the league. Don't know what to expect out of Schwenke, but the bar isn't that high. You don't have to expect much to be excited about this.

He played his senior season at center.

"I have what I call an a-ha moment. I didn't even know who this kid was. He's the quickest center I've seen snap, pull and anchor. I questioned whether he could anchor, but he answered that for me at the Senior Bowl." -- Mike Mayock

Yeah. Mayock has the biggest boner for him and is probably the sole reason anyone else does.

But I trust Mayock's opinions about as much as I do Mel Kiper's.

Love the switch. Just don't expect much, guys.

Rookie centers rarely start. I can't recall many who have.

Pouncey was the 18th pick of the draft and did well for the Steelers as a rookie in 2010.

Trial by fire for Schwenke this Sunday.
