What, exactly, should we be getting credit for in this case? Being the recipient of unflagged late hits?

You (the defender) are allowed one step, he took two, he could have pulled up or moved to one side but he didn't. Ask yourself if it would have been a penalty with manning, brady ect.

I don't follow, the only reason Locker was hurt is because his cleat got caught in the dirt. Without that, we wouldn't even have remembered the hit.

It sucks, but thats all there is to it.

The fines are ridiculous. Unless their is a pattern of dirty play by a player then just because they have one questionable hit does not mean they should be fined. That is why they have penalties. The Ayers hit is a perfect example. He has no history of playing dirty. He is busting it trying to get to the QB and he hits him low. He gets penalized for the play. The penalty certainly hurt the Titans in a major way by negating an INT and allowing the 49ers drive to continue which they scored on. There is no need to fine Ayers for that play. The penalty in the game was sufficient. Now if Ayers does it a 2nd or 3rd time then certainly I can understand. The League office has gone way overboard with these fines.

The defender took two steps, not one before he hit locker...what is there not to follow. Would the play have been a penalty if it were manning or brady????

I don't really remember that many details, regardless, two steps isn't an extraordinary amount of steps.....
