Which JPP are people talking about? The one who had 16.5 sacks in his 2nd season or the one who has had one sack in his last 15 games and none in his last 6?

    JPP has gone to crap.

Judging a DE by just sacks is the same as judjing a WR or HB by only TD's...Same as not taking into account a huge play by a WR who gest tackled at the 1 yardline and not scoring...in the DE world its the equivalent of getting QB pressure and forcing and incompletion.

Catching the ball and getting it to the 1 yard line is a measurable accomplishment. Apples and oranges. A big catch for a big gain is still a big play. Almost getting a sack is NOT a big play.

A more fair example would be comparing WR's targets vs. catches. but even then, it's a stretch. The good DEs in the game are the ones that make sacks happen ALONG with pressuring the QB when he cannot get there. Morgan only has one of those things down.

Gotta finish it to ever be considered anything worthwhile, and IMO, in 5 years, Morgan will be completely forgotten about.

This is the most hubbub I have ever seen about the greatness of a guy that has two sacks on the season.

you totall ignored the part about forcing an incompletion on the same play. Apples and Oranges maybe, but don't pump up your argument by 100% discounting a valid point against it :)

If you look at stats that describe how a QB performs while being hurried vs not being hurried you begin to see the impact of a guy like Morgan. It's a QB league and there is absolutely no debating the fact that QBs underpressure are far less effective when hurried and much more likely to throw incomplete passes and interceptions. Constant pressure can cause even experienced QBs like Manning and Brady to rush throws and generally take them out of their comfort zone.

You can sack a guy like Brady 2 times in a game and while that may change the complexion of that drive, he's still likely to carve you up later because if all you have is those 3 sacks and weren't able to consistently pressure him, he could just shake those sacks from his psyche. QB hurries may not be flashy but they are definitely very important and Morgan has tons of those. 1 or 2 sacks will change the outcome of a few drives, A QB who is under pressure during 55-60% of his throws will change a game.

He'll be back again. He's not done... and apparently he does well against the run and gets his fair share of QB pressures. Again, you can't judge everything off of sacks alone.

Morgan is the less flashy version of CJ on defense. I have no idea why people like this guy, 4th best starter on the line and I'd go as far to say our worst defensive starter period.

I'm not saying he's a superstar and should get a huge contract, but he is definitely a good to very good player. He does his job on every play and does it very well. So what he doesn't get sacks. You want a guy who makes a big impact 2 times a game, or a guy who makes less of impact, but really helps the team on 25 plays. I'll take the latter and we can lock him up relatively cheap.
