The fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick – barring injury – will be the Titans’ starting quarterback for the rest of the season should mean some changes in the team’s offensive approach.

When Fitzpatrick started two games earlier this year for an injured Jake Locker, the Titans knew Locker would be returning in a few weeks. That’s not the case this time, as Locker has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a Lisfranc injury to his right foot.

“Now it’s Ryan’s offense and Ryan’s team,” Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said. “So the direction of it can change now. Before it was stopgap – more, `Hey, this is Jake’s offense and we’re still going to play to his strengths. We can’t make too drastic a change.’ But obviously now we need to play to Ryan’s strengths and the things he does well.”

Fitzgerald agreed, saying there are some things he plans to tweak now that he knows he’s the man.

“It definitely makes a little bit of difference,” Fitzpatrick said. “For the remainder of the season, it really has to become my deal. I’m no longer the guy that’s keeping the seat warm for Jake.

“It’s my gig and the communication has to step up that much more with the linemen, the running backs, the wide receivers and tight ends, and also in the meeting room with Dowell. That relationship has to grow even more now in terms of our comfort level with one another.”

Loggains, who calls the plays for the Titans, said he felt like he had a better comfort level last Sunday with Fitzpatrick than when Fitzpatrick started two earlier games.

“I feel like Ryan and I were in a little better rhythm this week than when he came in the previous two games,” Loggains said. “So it’s just getting used to each other and understanding his strengths and what he feels comfortable with. A lot of these guys been in the league for as long as I have — eight or nine years – and they have concrete thoughts and things they do well and don’t do well. So we need to play to their strengths.”

In about two-and-a-half quarters of work against Jacksonville, Fitzpatrick led the Titans to 27 points, completing 22-of-33 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. His quarterback rating was 111.2

“I definitely noticed (a better rhythm with Loggains),” Fitzpatrick said. “I felt more comfortable going into the last game for whatever reason. I don’t know what it was. Maybe it was the two starts and getting experience out there with the guys on the field, having a feel for them and them having a feel for me.”

I get it, we're essentially adding training wheels so Fitz can ride Jake's bike.

Naw. Way more crossing routes. More west coast. No more digs and back routes. Fitz did well with that in buf. More WRs. More pistol.

It sucks to have a #1 QB who is a lock to miss time.
